OH MY JESUS. That is scary. I have goosebumps. Also, I LOVE this song. And I love the "keychain wedding ring" line. I love how that part in emphasized. Cloud Cult has become the one thing for which I'm proud of Minnesota. They are amazing. |

Also, formaldehyde is what ferments in the liver after excessive alcohol consumption. Maybe he's saying she ends up drinking too much (so much she converts her blood into formaldehyde), hanging out at bars looking for her 6-foot-tall east-coast grads. She's trying to be so extravagant because she's trying to get attention from these guys. And she should be dead by now considering how much she drinks. |

I think it's just about a dangerous and really extravagant girl - so extravagant, it's almost unreal (cartoonish..Disney-like..), who really catches his attention. But she has high standards, and is out to get everyone else. Maybe he gets with her once though, and it's supposed to stay at that... But it doesn't, because she's drilled a whole into his head - she's left her mark, and she'll always linger in his mind. At the same time, she could care less. She wants to inflict pain and suffering, and leave her lovers confused, but somehow wanting more. Maybe I'm oversimplifying it. |

Because SHE'S real, and the way his life is with drugs ISN'T. (That's my take on the whole "this is for real thing". Well, that and he's being honest this time. He's actually giving up his addictions. At least in the song) I think it's much easier to get the meaning once you have the last verse. (Or at least most of it. lol my bad) |

I think it's definitely about trying to save a relationship that's falling apart. But, I disagree with the people that said it's about someone ELSE ruining their relationship...or the girl cheating on him, etc. I think the reason this song is so upbeat and a little "pop-ish" is because the person is trying to be positive about this whole situation. He "killed" her inside by emotionally hurting her. She leaves him and now he's trying to be affectionate and caring. He wants her back and he knows now that he was the one that murdered her. She didn't just get cold and heartless. |
