actually, i would take it a little further in depth. i see it as someone [a guy, by the singer] missing someone [a girl], and they've gone away on a trip of some sort. so he's counting the days until she comes home, like he does every time she goes away. and this part, I'll look for nightly phone calls from you Telling me that one day has come and gone I'll be home soon if you miss me Count down the days until my return I'll be counting too I always do seems to make more sense if you think of it as the girl saying the part, 'one day's come and gone, i'll be home soon, etc'. get it? =] that's how i see it anyway. |

I agree with all the posters who have said this is about being in love. For me, it takes on a very special meaning. I dated this guy for a long time, and things slowly fell apart toward the end. It was very hard on me, and on him as well. We were broken up for five months before getting back together recently. At first, it was so scary thinking that I could get hurt again, and I was truly scared to death. And all the feelings I'm having now are the same as that new love, so it's like being in love for the first time. That's what it means to me personally. Love this. =] |

first of all, the version of this song i have says, "i fell asleep last night, but i woke up too late." i think that's what it is, but maybe the one you got these off of is a bit different. i think this could be about a guy who is falling for a girl, but is ending a relationship, saying that it's his fault and she should just forget about him. perhaps he's scared that he feels so strongly about her, and he's trying to make it out to be nothing, and he's leaving before he can get too involved and get hurt or maybe hurt her. he's telling her to forget him, and move on, because obviously he's not worth her time since he's too much of a coward to step up. it could be one of those things where he realizes what a jerk he's being by sending her mixed signals, because he wants her, but then he doesn't, so he's telling her to just forget about him, and that he's going to leave. something along those lines? well, that's what i got from it. i love the song, though, and these guys are so amazing. i bet they'll be something big someday. |

all these comments, and none of them discuss the meaning. well, here's what i think. it seems to be about a guy who knows a girl who's in a relationship that's not so hot, and he wants her, and they've maybe even sort of been together, while she's still with her boyfriend. but he wants her to leave her boyfriend, and she doesn't want to, and she gets angry at him when he suggests this. the beginning part, Hey You always seem to catch me when I’m lying about the stupidest of things Okay Sit around I’ll stab you in the back the words "I never never should have taken this so far" seems to be referring to how he thinks he never should have gotten involved with her at all, but the lies, maybe are that he's not going to tell anyone, etc; hence the "stupidest things." that's just what i think, hopefully you could pull something that makes sense out of that. lol. |

actually, i didn't get that she's with someone else instead of "home finding sleep." i think she cheated, and felt incredibly guilty, and couldn't be with him anymore, even though he still loves her and wants her. he wants her to promise that she didn't go with anyone else/that she still loves him. he's going out of his mind with longing for her, and she's feeling very guilty, so she can't be "finding sleep." the part where he says "i've been waiting for a good time..." i think is because he knew she was losing interest, but he held on, and he's trying to figure out if he did the right thing. i don't know, that's what i got. for the most part, though, i agree with everyone on here. this song's amazing, that's for sure. |
