Nightwish – Bless The Child Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that the way to interpret this song is in the context of the whole album. Century Child seems to be the most conceptual out of all of their albums, and you need to read everything in the booklet in order to get the full meaning of it. In the context of the song I think the phrase "Come bless the child one more time" means to pray, since I agree with the above posts in that the song is about someone dying. The Child I think is a personification of innocence ("I do believe only innocence can save the world"; not in these lyrics but written in the booklet) and Ocean Souls and how they think/feel are represented in this song. They can only be saved through The Child (aka innocence), hence the phrase "come bless the child one more time", i. e. pray and hope that innocence will come.

Nightwish – Master Passion Greed Lyrics 18 years ago
This is supposedly about Marcelo Cabuli, Tarja's husband. Obviously, Nightwish is not fond of him.

Nightwish – Ever Dream Lyrics 18 years ago
An absolutely beautiful song about unrequited love. I don't think it's necessarily about sex, but it incorporates sexual elements because, let's face it, sexual attraction is a part of romance. This is perhaps my favorite song by Nightwish.

Murray Gold – Song For Ten Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, the music itself is so happy but the lyrics are incredibly sad, especially when you remember what happened in the show. Without the context of the show, I like to think of this song as being about acceptance- he's realized he'll never see his love again, but he's also realized that just because they will never meet again doesn't mean they will not stop loving each other. The singer has reached acceptance, the final stage of grief, and is free to finally love without pain- hence making it "the best day".

Kate Bush – Suspended in Gaffa Lyrics 18 years ago
I've always seen this song as being about trying to be the best that you can be and working hard, but always being beaten by someone else, and it's this feeling of frustration that leads to feeling like you're stuck.

Kate Bush – Sat in Your Lap Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about how no one really knows anything. The singer expresses a yearning to know everything, and is upset by the fact that they cannot. They think that if they have certain knowledge then they'll be happy, but because no one has this then the singer is dissatisfied.

Emilie Autumn – What If Lyrics 18 years ago
This song seems to be about a person who's being judged by people who don't even know her that well or bother trying. She asks them for their opinion about her, but not to find out about herself- rather, she is testing them, to see who they are by the answers they give. And no matter what they say or may think of her she is determined to stay the way she is, rather than change to suit another. This song is the last one on Enchant, and it is in my opinion the perfect way to end the album- the last few notes are so heartbreakingly beautiful that they'll stay with you long after you've heard them.

Emilie Autumn – Rose Red Lyrics 18 years ago
I love, love, love this song- it's sheer beauty. I like how she samples lyrics and a melody from a folk song for the beginning lyrics and chorus. It's about a person who's in a very difficult place in their life, but is still fighting and insisting she's doing just fine (perhaps even to the point of delusion). If I could chose a theme song this would be it.

Emilie Autumn – Marry Me Lyrics 18 years ago
Though the melody for this song is upbeat, the actual lyrics themselves are quite depressing. A girl is stuck in horrifically unhappy marriage to a man that she not only doesn't love, but finds to be loathesome. She does the only things she can do in order to passive-aggressively fight against her lot in life- she drinks, parties, and has affairs. Though she is very triumphant about the fact that she'll never bear her real husband's children, at the end of the day she is still a deeply unhappy creature because she is not free to make her own choices. The black humor of this song is Emilie at her lyric best.

Emilie Autumn – How Strange Lyrics 18 years ago
I've seen this song be interpreted as portraying humankind's disprespect for the supernatural, something I've always rather disagreed with. Emilie Autumn seems to be taking the metaphor of the supernatural and using it to describe the singer, whom a swain persists in trying to win the singer's affections, a pursuit that both amuses and vexes her . On the one hand, he claims to dream of her every night and to love her, yet he wants her to change in order to fit in more with what he thinks she is, or should be. The singer believes otherwise- she won't change for anyone, not even a lover. She doesn't need to please anybody but herself, and if that means she has no boyfriend, then so be it. Staying true to herself is more important than listening to what supposed loved ones say she should be.

Emilie Autumn – Liar Lyrics 18 years ago
This song reminds me of PJ Harvey's Rid of Me- the singer is still in love with the person they're talking about, but they've been terribly betrayed. The singer alternates between loving endearments; obsessive, stalkerish behavior; and a desire to make the other person hurt as much as they do. It's a song that has multiple levels of emotion in it, something that not many artists achieve.

Emilie Autumn – Dead Is the New Alive Lyrics 18 years ago
I like how this song has a dual meaning; not only can it be commentary on a descent into an obsession with all things Goth as a way of fitting in, but it also paints a good portrait of someone who has lost so much hope that suicide (or thinking about it) "becomes a way of life".

Emilie Autumn – Gothic Lolita Lyrics 18 years ago
Emilie herself mentioned in her journal that this song was inspired by personal events; in one interview, she mentions a fan being a "fellow rape victim". Whatever it was that really happened, something horrible has been following her around for quite some time and this song is a way for her to deal with what happened, something she's made quite clear. She also touched on the EGL aspect of it, which this song can also be considered to be indirect commentary on. It ultimately seems to be about how horrible personal events can resonate years later, after one thinks they should've recovered. However, there are indeed other layers to the song (such as it being commentary on current Gothic styles, a subject she's also touched upon in Dead is the New Alive).

Emilie Autumn – Across The Sky Lyrics 18 years ago
This song seems to be about a wise and loving being, perhaps an otherworldly spirit.. In the words she speaks at the beginning, which aren't included here ("What is your substance, whereof are you made/That millions of strange shadows on you tend?/Since everyone, hath every one, one shade/And you but one, can every shadow lend") she seems to be speaking about this being. It's a benevolent spirit, one who has suffered greatly but nevertheless will continue to come to the aid of a loved one, or one who requires assistance. However, s/he can only show the way; you're the one who must make the choice.
