Song For Ten Lyrics

Well I woke up today
And the world was a restless place
It could have been that way for me

And I wandered around
And I thought of your face
That Christmas looking back at me

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

And I started to walk
Pretty soon I will run
And I'll come running back to you

'Cause I followed my star
And that's what you are
I've had a merry time with you

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

So have a good life
Do it for me
Make me so proud
Like you want me to be
Where ever you are
I'm thinking of you oceans apart
I want you to know

Well I woke up today and you're on the other side
Our time will never come again
But if you can still dream
Close your eyes it will seem
That you can see me now and then

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

This was written for the 2005 Doctor Who Christmas special to introduce David Tennant as the 10th Doctor. One of the lines quotes Christopher Eccleston's last episode:

"So have a good life Do it for me Make me so proud Like you want me to be"

And also foreshadows the finale where the Doctor and Rose are separated, at the same spot but in other dimensions, and how the Doctor called out to Rose in her dreams to make a final (albeit interrupted) goodbye:

"Well I woke up today and you're on the other side Our time will never come again But if you can still dream Close your eyes it will seem That you can see me now and then"

You've obviously not seen (or at all understood) the episode, but I'll ignore that for now. This song is not foreshadowing anything. The lyrics about Doomsday were added after Doomsday aired. The person who sung the five minutes worth of song in The Christmas Invasion was not the person who sang this version for the soundtrack, nor was he the person who sang a slightly edited version of this at the first Doctor Who at the Proms.

that was my fave bit of the 10th doctor, i love his holographhic goodbye and those lines were the ones which made me cry.. the bit about walking then running really reminded me of Rose, when she nearly doesn't follow him but then he comes back and she breaks into a run and its all slowed down and another fave bit.

u think its all from Tenth Doc's point of view, cus i thought she was following his star really.

I love this song, the music itself is so happy but the lyrics are incredibly sad, especially when you remember what happened in the show. Without the context of the show, I like to think of this song as being about acceptance- he's realized he'll never see his love again, but he's also realized that just because they will never meet again doesn't mean they will not stop loving each other. The singer has reached acceptance, the final stage of grief, and is free to finally love without pain- hence making it "the best day".

I agree with all the previous comments, its a great song.

The lines "And I started to walk Pretty soon I will run And I'll come running back to you" Now really match the moment in Stolen Earth where they see eachother again and they begin to run.

The first time I heard this whole song, at "I want you to know," I waited for the next line. But he didn't continue. Then I realized it was a foreshadowing of "Rose Tyler..." So sad.

I made a video tribute to the 10th Doctor with this song after he died. Well, regenerated. The Doctor lived, but Ten died... This song used to make me so happy, but now that he's gone, it makes me so sad...

This is one of my favorite songs from Doctor Who. I guess it's about Rose, but I always think of Sarah Jane when I listen to it. It fits the Tenth Doctor's personality really well. The problem is, in the series 4 specials soundtrack, right before the Doctor regenerates, they play a reprise of this which is slowed down and all instrumental that kills me every time.
