Death Cab for Cutie – The Ice Is Getting Thinner Lyrics 17 years ago
Is it just me, or is this almost exactly like a "sequel" to Summer Skin? It is the same song... the same theme, anyway. Except the winter is ending instead of the summer. I don't know if this is intentional, but it works perfectly!

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend (Japanese Version) Lyrics 18 years ago
So this may be the most ridiculous song ever written,
and singing it in foreign languages makes it so much better.
Good job, Avril. You might not be good, but you are fun!

Arcade Fire – Keep the Car Running Lyrics 18 years ago
I rang in this New Year on the road with a crazy crazy DJ on the radio. After Auld Lang Syne was finished playing, he told us to keep the car running, and played this song. The first song of 2008! This song means so much more to me now. Keeping the car running could mean being ready to leave at any moment. It also means, most importantly, staying alive, not giving up hope.

Arcade Fire – Black Wave/Bad Vibrations Lyrics 18 years ago
This is definitely the sequel to Haïti, kind of like how Keep The Car Running is the sequel to Funeral's Rebellion.
I absolutely adore this song.

The Weakerthans – Left and Leaving Lyrics 18 years ago
This is my favourite song in all the world.

And the title tells you everything you need to know about it, I think. If you have ever been away from the things or people or places you love, you know exactly what John is talking about.

Bright Eyes – Cleanse Song Lyrics 18 years ago
Every time I hear this song, I am reminded of 'Bowl Of Oranges'. Don't you think they're similar? The tunes are even alike, and they're both about getting better no matter what.

I don't know how he does it. This song is just so healing and... cleansing!

The wind is older than rome & our joy & our sorrow. How can you not feel all right?

Broken Social Scene – Windsurfing Nation Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought it was "all I want is a feeling."

Somehow I think the point of Broken Social Scene is to make your own lyrics. Do they ever come with the album?

Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Reading in Bed Lyrics 18 years ago
I kind of always thought of the first two verses coming -after- the last verse. What I mean is the first two verses are about the "lives unled." It's saying, Get out of bed, get out of your stories and instead, get out there and make your own happiness and stop hiding.

To me, it's a cheer up song. I've been addicted to it. With all the luck I've had, why are my songs so sad?

Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Doctor Blind Lyrics 18 years ago
I like both interpretations!

Whenever I listen to this song, though, I can't help but think about The Matrix with all the blue pill and red pill references. You know, take the blue pill and you'll wake up and it'll all be a dream. I'm doubtful it has much to do with the meaning of the song, but it's interesting that she chose those colours!

I can't get enough of Emily Haines. Her music is so sombre yet so beautiful.

Broken Social Scene – I Slept with Bonhomme at the CBC Lyrics 18 years ago
Allison, you're not Canadian, are you?
The CBC is definitely the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and, yes, Bonhomme is French for "snowman," and is also the mascot for Québec's winter carnival.
Very simply, someone slept with the mascot at the CBC building in Québec in February. You really don't have to over-analyze everything!
