True, Shoreline, they do get a lot of Eastern influence from this song. It does bring to mind however, a blend of the far east with a LOT of influence from Indonesian gamelan.
Bonhomme may be a reference to the "host" of the Quebec Winter Carnival (Carnaval de Québec); who is a large snowman wearing a red cap and an arrowed belt. The CBC is probably a reference to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; Canada's public TV and radio broadcaster. Another possible interepretation goes along with the Eastern influence I mentioned... CBC is also a reference to a Canadian Born Chinese...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as BSS spawned from Canada, it seems to make sense that they would reference these figures in their song title.
For those who are interested, here is a link to an image of Bonhomme Carnaval. http://www.carnaval.qc.ca/images/img_fond_2.jpg
This is my favorite BSS song, and one third of a super extraordinary three part album opener.

Wow, one comment! This is incredible, it reminds me of Japan, and I love when Broken Social Scene play the violin in their songs. Man, it's just so beautiful. I'm listening to it right now, I love listening to this at night and just dancing slowly around my room in the light peeking through the blinds from the moon.
lyrics are unneccesary. this song is utterly unbelievable. i get chills.
Love it. Makes me feel so calm when I play it on guitar or listen to it falling asleep.
Allison, you're not Canadian, are you? The CBC is definitely the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and, yes, Bonhomme is French for "snowman," and is also the mascot for Québec's winter carnival. Very simply, someone slept with the mascot at the CBC building in Québec in February. You really don't have to over-analyze everything!
Why are you on a website called "songmeanings.net" if you don't think you should analyze something thoroughly. Alison~!@ makes some great points that address both the obvious and the hidden (potential) meanings of the song. It's pretty cool to see happen.
