If you read earlier interviews, they used to be one of those "evangelical" sorts of bands, some/most of the members are Christian. They don't do the preaching anymore, and from what I understand, most of the songs comes from poetry and stories Schuylar writes. |

Such amazing imagery as Despise13 pointed out. Everything is just so epic and imaginative. Really amazed that bands can still write songs the way these guys do. |

This song and the album on the whole seems to address the human condition. The story shows humankind as different ways of governing and ideologies are applied to society. As the above poster mentioned, this one in particular seems to deal with humans looking for God. |

Sorry to double post, but I wasn't sure if it would allow me to type so much in one posting. Also, I apologize for a few grammatical errors in my previous post, I got lazy and didn't scan it before I hit submit :P.
The second idea I have is kind of like staplesmcjebus' interpretation. "There is a monster in my room we discussed movies over coffee, and I think it's quite absurd." The monster could symbolize a Major Label trying to sign a new artist. He's just starting to get out there and they want to snatch him up just as he's about to go big. Being from L.A. myself and also being apart of the local music scene, I don't know if you could call this a local phenomenon, but deals will often happen over a cup of coffee in the local Starbucks or whatever :P. The artist and label rep discuss movies over coffee.
"He got hungry, licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me. And it's getting on my nerves." The label rep finally cuts it with the small talk and moves in for the kill so to speak. He's trying to pressure the artist to sign with them. The artist has been getting this from many labels lately, and he's annoyed by it.
"Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and still I don't know how to kill you." The artist has been reading the headlines about himself, he doesn't know what to do about his impending fame.
"I'm trying hard not to meet you when I am sleeping, and still I don't know how to kill you." The artist doesn't want to make the wrong decision, and he's trying not to make the decision prematurely or before he knows everything about the situation. He doesn't want to sign onto a label when he is ignorant eg meet you when I am sleeping.
"I've got tickets to show that I know no one will be attending, and I think that you should go." He invites a label rep to one of his shows to check him out.
"I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding It's just the way that it goes." He's going to sign onto a dying label/small independent label.
"I don't mind the shape your head is in .I've just got to watch you explode" He doesn't care that the label isn't the best. He just wants to see where everything take off.
Weird I know, but I don't it's THAT farfetched :P. Incredible song though, more bands need to bring back real Rock N' Roll. |

For the Christian thing, they have Christian members, but they don't believe it's their place to Bible Thump, so they don't do praise music. Not explicitly anyway. I don't see why people get so offfended over Jesus Rockers, but I digress, back to the lyrics.
I have pretty much two ideas of what the song may be about, and I'm going to take a page from both SnareRushJunkie and staplesmcjebus. If you have read I Am Legend, the song fits really well with the book. It's done in a classic rock style and the book takes place in the 70s, which strikes me, but this may not have been intentionally. "There's a monster in my room we discussed movies over coffee, And I think it's quite absurd" Robert(The Main Character) unknowingly takes in a vampiress named Ruth. They discuss their lives over a coffee. The whole time Robert feels akward and in the back of his mind, he knows she is a vampire. "He got hungry, licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me. And it's getting on my nerves." Ruth ends up attacking Neville and he is angered and saddened by it. "Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and still I don't know how to kill you." Robert is constantly researching ways to kill the actual virus that causes vampirism. "I'm trying hard not to meet you when I am sleeping and still I don't know how to kill you." The vampires come out at night and congregate outside his house. He feels the urge to give up and go outside to be consumed by the vampires, but he tries hard to fight it. "I've got tickets to show that I know no one will be attending, and think that you should go." Could be when he invites Ruth into his living room to listen to records with him, and also the lonliness he feels of being and presumably Ruth being the last humans on earth. "I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding It's just the way that it goes." He finds out Ruth is indeed infected and her tan makeup rubs off and reveals her to be a pale vampiress. But Robert says that it's okay, and vows to find a cure for her. |

There were a few errors in the posted lyrics, the one part goes "Alive up in the sheets." And it's "Boy you look just like your mother." The song itself, seems to be about gender confusion. |
