Eating A Book Lyrics
There is a monster in my room we discussed movies over coffee
And I think it's quite absurd he got hungry,
licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me.
And it's getting on my nerves
Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading,
and I still don't know how to kill you
I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping,
still don't know how to kill you
I've got tickets to show I know no one will be attending
And think that you should go
I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding
It's just the way that it goes
Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading
and I still don't know how to kill you
I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping,
still don't know how to kill you
I don't mind the shape your head is in
I've just got to watch you explode
And I think it's quite absurd he got hungry,
licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me.
And it's getting on my nerves
Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading,
and I still don't know how to kill you
I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping,
still don't know how to kill you
And think that you should go
I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding
It's just the way that it goes
and I still don't know how to kill you
I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping,
still don't know how to kill you
I've just got to watch you explode

i love this song so much. the chorus is awesome! hmm i'm not sure about the meaning but it sounds like he's talking about the time and about falling asleep in the chorus "don't you think it's strange that i've been reading and still i don't know how to kill you" to kill the time but i'm really not sure at all about what i just said! lol tell me what you think
i think this songs about the devil and how its impossible to get rid of him. (most of HIL's fans dont even know they're a christian band...)
Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and I still don't know how to kill you I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping, still don't know how to kill you
reading the bible, im guessing, and still not being able to get rid of satan and the temptations he presents. and hoping not to be haunted through dreams..
thats what i got from this song
well they say they aren't christian on there website but they did say a couple people do follow Christ but a couple others don't so they don't call them selves christian but i do cause there messages are pretty clear

but i got the same message
This is the second in my HIL series - its been awhile but thats practically how long it takes to figure out what this band is on about (lyric-wise) So heres my best shot:
There is a monster in my room we discussed movies over coffee And I think it's quite absurd he got hungry, licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me. And it's getting on my nerves
(Well since we all should know by now, He is Legend has aimed to criticize the vast being of Hollywood. This song is no different - The "monster" is Hollywood/a media representative who just invited themselves into the lives and career of He Is Legend (or any band) - hungry to pounce upon a potential gold mine of a kickass band. But He is Legend thinks this is absurd and is not the way to be successful in the music industry - and to be frank its getting on the nerves of the band)
Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and I still don't know how to kill you
(The band asks this media representative if he finds it the least bit odd that after all the - ironically - bad press the media has been receiving from everyone critiquing thier greedy headstrong marketing schemes they still don't know how to silence this garbage)
I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping, still don't know how to kill you
(The band, like many others, dream of being famous, but this is one musical group who will not dream about making it famous by selling out/changing their beleifs and style)
I've got tickets to show I know no one will be attending And think that you should go
(Maybe this is about how the band would rather play shows for their fans that matter for all the right reasons, even if hardly any show up)
I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding It's just the way that it goes
(Unsure - maybe the band likes it when people go crazy for their music and mosh/get a little bit hurt cuz thats the spirit of rock and roll? He Is Legend perhaps don't care if their fans are unorthadox because if it was any other way it would be sleazy coporate pimps and fans who only like one or two songs and like the band for the wrong reasons)
I don't mind the shape your head is in I've just got to watch you explode
(The band muses that they don't really care just how big the heads are of these media hound dogs. They can keep tryin to persuade and tempt them but this band is just going to keep doing what they do until the music industry explodes and cannot handle the fact that bands will hopefully decide to stop selling out and making music for the quick fix)
Rock on He Is Legend!
maybe this song means what everyone else thinks it does but when i read the lyrics this is what i thought:
"Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and I still don't know how to kill you I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping, still don't know how to kill you"
it's like when you are in love or have had your heart broken but you can't get the person to get the fuck out of your head... you want to kill it, but it won't go away.
I'm pretty sure almost all of HIL's songs are about movies/books. but If that's true, I don't know what this song is based off of.
I'm pretty sure at least part of this is based on Richard Matheson's book "I Am Legend", which is also where the band got it's name. It's a story about this guy who is the last human being on earth, and everyone else has turned into vampires. He spends a lot of time in the library reading about blood and vampires and whatnot, and it takes him forever to figure out how and why the vampires react to various things, thus "Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, still I don't know how to kill you." The next two lines might be from the protagonist's point of view, but they may also be from the vampires' point of view, since the protagonist kills a lot of them in their sleep.
Some spoilers may follow, so if you're planning on reading the book, you may want to stop here. Later on in the book, he finds a woman who he believes hasn't been turned into a vampire. Of course, it turns out she has, but he still loves her even after finding out what she truly is. This might explain the second verse, specifically "I don't mind your complexion or even the fact that you are bleeding", seeing as how vampires have pale skin and obviously drink blood.
As for the rest of the song, I have no idea how it would fit into this interpretation.
I'm not really going to contribute anything right now...
But I just read the first post, and just because they are on a Christian label doesn't mean all of their songs have underlying christian meanings. In fact, I don't think ANY of their songs preach about God or anything, implicitly or explicitly.
oops, i meant the second post, not the first... >.
snarerushjunkie thats so cool you must be a pretty big fan...thanks that helps so i might just have to read that book. well neways nineeyes yeah im pretty sure that they do often have multiple meanings and christian meanings like thats the worst thing in the world. and i think when christians come out with music that God finds a way to speak through them regardless of what they say.
snarerushjunkie.....yes! you hit it
