Q&A
All Bodies Lyrics
We all create this imagery.
We all increase this lunacy.
Floating, melting
Open sores for exploration
Exploding worlds
Surrounding imaginations?
This will conclude our story
The first date of existence seems to be changing
We are their property, we are their slaves
We surround all bodies
Focus- TIme stands still
Keeper of the stars, I hope to never find
We are just mortal souls left to die
We all create this imagery.
We all increase this lunacy.
-All Bodies
-Contortion
(The Discovery)
Ego, controlled killing
The tables have turned
Obviously a poor creature of existance
We die one by one
We overlooked our control
Fire swarming
Engulfing, transforming
Human restoration incomplete
The end.
(The Landing)
This beautiful scenario can't last forever
We must go see the conclusion
Starting a new species, classify nothing
Life grows with trees on high
Nature creates this mechanical lust
Nature form this fore fed trust
Cancellation
Motivation
Creativity
We will soon live in peace
We will soon die in peace

Lostperfection, "but when he says "We are just mortal souls, Left to Die" he says how a so called God does nothing to help the human race."
note the line before it:
"Keeper of the stars, I hope to never find We are just mortal souls left to die"
The inflection of the second line there, when you listen to it, obviously relates the line to the one before it. The voice isn't hoping to "never find" the keeper of the stars. It's desperate, not apathetic. He hopes never to find that the God-like "keeper of the stars" has abandoned him/humanity, but he isn't sure what he believes about it. He isn't sure of anything yet. He lapses into reflection on the human race and his tone is a shameful, or humble perspective of human lunacy... chaos... distortion.... digression
@ Cartography I had never thought of it like that when I heard it. But that makes so much sense hearing it.

I think, like a few have stated or suggested similar ideas, that this song is about humans contemplating their own existence. The lines "Keeper of the starts, I hope to never find we are just mortal souls left to die" is a prayer to a god, praying that he exists to pray to, rather than being merely a belief. Humans want to believe that there is an omnipotent being that controls the universe, and that they will live forever with him if they believe in him. We all fear the fact that we will all cease to be one day. So we pray to God that we never realize the truth; that we will all die, and that that's the end of us; that "we are just mortal souls left to die".
The rest of the song seems to talk about religion, and how we create it, yet it enslaves us to dogmas and biases.
no comments, are you kidding me. this is absolutely my favorite song off of the new album, second favorite of all-time after mordecai. the vocals are perfect. the vox right before the last chorus kick ass. in addition, btbam's musicianship is unmatched. this song is fucking amazing.
it kills me.
5 people saying THIS SONG RULEZ #1 FTW is the same thing as not commenting at all. This forum is to try to make sense out of the wicked poetry that gives meaning to the brilliance of BTBM's masterpiece album.
The first time I heard this album I thought it was a parable of an abandoned species in a cold world struggling for meaning and advancement with no easy answers. All Bodies is a clueless lament to higher forces, Selkies is the creation of easy gods and "the rain song" the emergance of environmental problems in the face of humanism.
A closer look at the lyrics breaks down that idea (that's what this website is for, right?) But I still like this song's proud desperation against existential uncertainty.
Your thoughts?
Thank you very much for posting this comment, I completely agree that this song/band kick ass, but That's not what this site is for.

And thank you to In My Dreams for taking the time to write this out, I never would have even attempted to understand what they are saying lol.

It is definitely about religion, or a criticism of religion.
"We all create this imagery." "We all increase this lunacy." these two lines seem to talk about how ridiculous these religions are. Also WE all create this imagery seems to hint at humans creating religions.
"The first date of existence seems to be changing" could be about how it has been proven that the world as we know it is much older than what is said in the bible.
"Focus- Time stands still" think about religion and maybe you'll realize how ridiculous it is.
"We are just mortal souls left to die" we die and that's it. no afterlife is basically what I'm getting from this line
"Ego, controlled killing" death in the bible by the hands of god maybe?
"Obviously a poor creature of existence" this line seems to mean humans are pathetic creatures and are insignificant in the grand scheme of things
"This beautiful scenario can't last forever We must go see the conclusion" the thought that there is an afterlife will fade and we need to see the world for what it really is
"Nature creates this mechanical lust Nature form this fore fed trust" this one is kinda weird, but it kinda sounds like the theory of evolution. I'm sure I'm wrong on this one but I wanted to throw that out there.
"We will soon live in peace We will soon die in peace" we will soon be without religion and we wont have to worry about deities anymore.
-All Bodies -Contortion Its either Brainwashing, a depiction of dead bodies, or both. it could mean brainwashing=dead bodies, aka. the crusades.
the entire song seems to be brutal criticism of religion (Christianity in particular). this is just what i saw in it though. I will add that this is probably one of btbam's strongest songs lyrically. usually btbam's lyrics kinda fall short of other bands like Opeth, but this one is really good. that's all i have to say. Peace
I agree. This song is absolutely ridiculous, as is btbam. The arpeggios in this song make me want to give up on guitar and practice all at the same time. Some of the best melodic/technical metal of this time.
All bodies Contorsion.
mmm mmmm good.
This song and the album on the whole seems to address the human condition. The story shows humankind as different ways of governing and ideologies are applied to society. As the above poster mentioned, this one in particular seems to deal with humans looking for God.
It could be about religious views. but they have so manyother meanings to their songs.
but when he says "We are just mortal souls, Left to Die" he says how a so called God does nothing to help the human race.
hairymadness is correct when he equates this album to existential uncertainty about the problems that are facing and will face humanity. In fact, this album wonderfully fuses the radical but necessary postmodernism with the fundamentally and human adaption for it, existentialism.
