Here's the lyrics as they are in the liner notes to the album:
It's too late, I got hit by the closing door & as I watch myself reflect on
The wrong side of...~My you've changed. You turned a corner I'll never
Go ~ I admit I feel a bit deceived. You're expecting Id follow ~ Bandoliers,
to fight me dear ~ Nobody caused the rift ~ We've
Just grown apart now... ~ You'd better prepare then take aim & fire -
Prepare then take aim & fire... ~ On me. ~ If That's the way it has to
be ~ Fooling myself, fooling myself into believing you & all
these fictionary tales you're telling yourself ~ So selfish,
Like a child that never heard a no ~ I watch this ever
changing you, never find us ~ Bandoliers, to fight you
dear ~ Nobody caused the rift ~ I cant become what
I'm not ~ You've always had my heart ~ So if it
must be broken ~ You'd better prepare then take aim
& fire ~ Fire away ~ If you must, but
I only came ~ Just to let you know ~
This is goodbye you'd better pre-
pare then take aim & fire ~
Know that no one can make me
fire |

| The Swell Season – Back Broke Lyrics

Glen's described it as being like the blues, where if you talk or sing about the things that bring you down, they don't affect you as much. It's the same concept as with Strict Joy, the poem for which the album was named. It's printed in the front of the album notes. Absolutely beautiful poem. |

Ah, you beat me to it! I was just about to post these lyrics. So far, my favorite from the new album. It sounds like it's about having to compromise on a dream or a goal.. That's a fairly literal interpretation, but it seems like there's more their. |

Rachel's is one of the most amazing groups around. Check out Dirty Three for more like it. This song seems to be of hope, tragic beauty, and love, conquering the hardest of times. |

The Provos aren't the problem. They gave up armed conflict with the Good Friday Agreement, in 1998. The only active wings of the IRA are the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA.. Maybe the Original IRA. |

Out of the three studio recording of this song, this is by far the best. Glen Hansard is an amazing songwriter, and with Marketa Irgova, is unstoppable! :) |

This song needs a lot more comments! Cromwell was one of the worst people ever to walk the Earth, up their with Stalin and Hitler. He nearly exterminated the Irish, but still couldn't make them convert. Only a small number did, but they still were killed or enslaved because he hated the Irish, no matter what sect of Christianity they followed. That's just me, though, even if I hope I'm not alone in thinking that way... |

I didn't read through everyone's comments, so if I repeat what someone else said, just let me know. This was a very important part of the Lifehouse project. After the highest point of it, Pure and Easy, this would go, because of the final message of it: "Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss". It's saying that eventually, it all ends up the same. Again, this is just me, so if I'm wrong, please let me know! |

| The Who – Baba O'Riley Lyrics

I didn't check through everyone's comments on this, so if I'm repeating somebody else, don't be mad! Right then...the meaning is found in the title. Baba refers to Meher Baba, believed to be an avatar of God, who wrote an important paper called "God in a Pill" stating that psychoactive drugs would actually distance one from God. O'Riley refers to a minimalist composer named Terry Riley, whom was one of the first people to experiment with synthesizer music. Meher inspired some the "Don't cry" lyrics, because Pete was a follower of him at the time. Riley inspired the famous synth intro. The rest of the lyrics were meant to be a part of the abandoned Lifehouse project. I'm fairly sure of most of that, but again, that's just me, so if I'm wrong, please be brutally honest! |
