I did my best understanding the lyrics then, and I thought they were hilarious then. However, when I watched it in theaters, the real lyrics were much funnier than I originally thought. I never saw this song as being a denunciation of Christians specifically. I just thought the halo thing was interesting. Just something I learned in school. This song really does seem to be more about people using religion to justify their own actions. Just like earthshine said, violence is one example. I'm still trying to understand this stanza: God is on the cell phone God is on the net God is in the warning God is in the threat. Any ideas anyone? |

Tamjam, I'm really going to hope your post was sarcastic because of all the caps, but for some reason I don't think it was. Thereforce, I'm going to treat it like an idiotic statement. Seriously, why do the majority of people seem to jump to drugs as the meaning of songs? You were right about one thing, the story isn't just a tale of guy climbing a mountain. There is a metaphor, but it's a personel metaphor for the band. They've said most of it deals with the band's personel journey in the music industry. They did the same thing with the Leviathan album. Also, you're even more idiotic if you think 10,000 Days was also about drugs. What does 10,000 Days refer to then, 10,000 days of being high? That album was very personel to Maynard, who wrote the title song and "Wings for Marie" about the death of his mother. See, metal bands can write about more things than just drugs. THANX ;) |

Alright, I see you're point now, and I agree with some of it. Mastodon does do a good (actually, great's a much better word here) job with writing heavy music. That's what made Remission and Leviathan so good, along with Blood Mountain of course. However, may just be me, but I think Mastodon is a much better of a band now that they're writing songs like these as well. Not many bands can handle being heavy and melodic like these guys can. And, personally, I love the lighter songs on this album (Sleeping Giant and This Mortoil Soil) compared to the others, and I love all kinds of metal. I guess it's like comparing apples and oranges though. |

Gotta disagree with you on that one jek. I really don't think Homme contributes much to this song. All he really does is sing a couple of words as backup. And to be honest, I couldn't really tell it was him until someone told me. Would of been cooler if he got a slightly bigger part though. As for the meaning, everyone seems to be right saying that this song is about a bunch of tree people, but I'm more interested in the end. If you look at the lyrics in the first track, "The Wolf is Loose," it points out that the main protagonist is a werewolf, and that part of the reason he's climbing Blood Mountain is to rid himself of that curse. There's some references to that, especially the line: "Carve my teeth out ripping through the sheep's head curse." That could also explain the whole, "My heart's gone away," thing. I think he turns into the werewolf form again in this song. I don't really know, just trying to put the whole story together. |

Yeah, pretty obvious that its about a one-eyed sasquatch, but another that is mentioned is the monsters ability to tell the future. I think in this song, it makes a prediction about the future of the protagonist. That's the robot-like voice in the break of the song. If you look at the lyrics for that part, you see it syncs up perfectly with the lyrics for Colony of Birchmen, which takes place two songs later. Thats the premonition. |

Righto there serge, lets try to put our heads together here and find some meaning to this song instead of talkling about if its the right lyrics or night. This song seems to be about finding the Crystal Skull first before actually climbing the mountain. I think this because the following song is "Sleeping Giant" which seems to be about the mountain itself. The thing I don't understand is the stuff about the blackholes. Is the Crystal Skull located in another dimension? Seems like the hero has to travel to a dark place in another dimension to obtain the skull. This new dimension is full of all these different horrors (blood-sucking flies, darkness everywhere, and millons of voices yelling and screaming). |

Also, anyone catch that a few of the songs at the beginning of this album have some references to water? I think the protagonist had to sail out to Blood Mountain, so the mountain itself is on an uncharted island. Kinda cool since their last album had to deal with water, makes a nice transition. The only reference to Capillarian I can find has to deal with caterpillars or a parasitic worm. But when you look at the lyrics it doesn't make sense at all. I don't know, from the lyrics I kinda get the sense that this is about the main character of the story finally preparing himself for his journey, convincing himself this is what he needs to do. But that really doesn't make sense cause this song is the fourth. Would make more sense if it was the opening song of the album. |

Just so you know, the whole album is based on an original story made up by the band about a man's journey up Blood Mountain and the creatures and hardships he faces on the way. As for the song, I found out that this is what Brann had to say. The main character is caught in a blizzard where he becomes frostbitten and frozen and he's starving and starts to hallucinate. Then this snow queen appears before him and tells him it's OK to start eating his own flesh. And then he starts to do that. Then an aurora borealis appears, and he thinks it's God, and it starts affecting this crystal skull he's been toting up the mountain, and it starts to warm his body. That, coupled with the knowledge of the aurora borealis being God, gives him the strength to start to carry on again. If you look at the lyrics again in that light, it all makes sense. |

Well, if we go with the idea of him mocking an artist, the video helps support that idea too. As I'm sure most of you know, Lamb of God hasn't always been the band to have stippers dancing all around them in their videos. The whole video seems very tongue-in-cheek to me. I mean, the whole idea of a heavy metal band playing a little girl's birthday party is just ludicrous. So it's possible he's making fun of an artist in the song and with refrences in the video. For some reason, the stippers remind of Avenged Sevenfold, because I'm pretty sure the majority of their videos have strippers in them. Most of that's probably nothing, but I'm just trying to come up with some ideas. (by the way, I agree with you Perished God. It does seem like he's aiming the song at frontmen all togther, thus the line about not calling any names.) |

I don’t think that is necessarily a suicide note. I have to agree with elstratomasta on this one. Her husband was gone, leaving her alone for many years, the Isolation Years. She’s come to the end of her life and she’s looking back at all the years she spent waiting for her husband or lover. The line, “…To rest on a lover's shore" seems to me like her husband was a sailor or went over seas and she’d wait for him on the shore. Just what I gathered. Also, I think the “stain,” might be a tear since it’s next to his name. |

Phil Anselmo huh? I guess that could make sense, but why would Randy attack Phil like that? I mean he calls him "a laughing stock of your fucking stage." What's his problem with Phil? But your comment made me think of it being about something else. Maybe its not about Phil, but what Phil was: a frontman for a band. Maybe its about how the singers of bands let their egos get to big. That could explain the... "Oh but I ain't going to call names Or throw stones in a house of glass" That line right there might be saying that he's a frontman too, so he can't be calling names and throwing stones because he'd be mocking himself too. The second line of that goes with a phrase I've heard before. I can't remember where I heard it, but it goes something along these lines. "Those living in a glass house shouldn't throw stones, or else it may be reciprocated." Meaning those who are vurnerable shouldn't attack others. By the way, I've listened to the song pletny of times, and I'm pretty sure he says, "This is a motherfuckin' invitation," both times. I could be hearing wrong though. |

Its been said before, but 12:97:24:99 someone simplifies to 11:11. I just it was interesting to note that they believers of the 11:11 religion, worshipers, whatever you want to call them believe that at the end of the world, 11:11 will appear in fire in the sky. Can't remember where I found that, but I specifically remember that piece of information. That's why I think its placed where it is on the CD, right before "The End of All Things to Come." It just fits perfectly. As for the translated lyrics, I think it ties into the song that follows it. They seem to be talking about destroying the world not to be destructive but to start over and create something mroe wonderful. To do this, you need to change the way you think and expand your boundaries, or something to that effect. Sorry, a lot of this stuff goes over my head. Also to add, I'm pretty sure its eleven seconds of silence and not twelve. I know its not that big of a deal (oooh! a second!) but it ties in better with being eleven. |

Still, if its not about Bush, it still reminds me of someone fooling themselves into thinking people respect themselves. Hence the, "Laughing stock of your own fucking stage." I know there are many meanings behind this song (which is what makes it so beautiful). It could be about a past love, Maynard's son, and it does point to heroin. With the latter, I don't think it is about that because from what I've known, Maynard's never been addicted to drugs. When he wrote "Weak and Powerless" he said in an interview that it was difficult to write for him since he hasn't been addicted to drugs. He had to write that song using the experiences of people he knew. Not his own. Still, if that's what it means to you and it helps you with you own life, that's great. I think the meaning about his son makes the most since, but I can't relate to it as easily as others. That's why I found a different meaning: temptation. It's quite obvious that the snake is meant to symbolize temptation (a reference to Genesis, as been's stated before). The snake makes promises ("turning piss into wine") which sound good, but they are bad for you. The blood before him could mean his family trying to help him out and steer him on the right path. It all kinda goes back to the thing about an angel on one side and a devil on the other. Just my thoughts. |

This song is awesome. I can definitely see the Pantera influence, but I doubt the whole album will be like that. Think, the song is called Redneck. With Pantera being from the south, the title and the style mesh perfectly. Anyways, on to the meaning of the song. I'm not really sure exactly. The chorus confuses me the most since its so vague. Still, I think this has to do with someone (a leader of sorts) losing his power and the faith of his people. Personally, I think its pointing specifically to Bush (its never been a secret that Lamb of God doesn't really approve of him). It's also interesting to note the name when thinking of this meaning. Since Bush came from Texas, the name could very well be calling Bush a "Redneck." I kinda think this song came about from Bush's low approval rating. That might be what the break is about. Bush tries to pretend that the American citizens still believe in him, but he's only lying to himself and that doesn't make it anymore true. Just my thoughts. |
