Capillarian Crest Lyrics

Capillarian
Gone away

Capillarian
Gone away

It's a shattered wave
Cosmogenic cycles
Universal dreams
The unseen essence

Energies refreshed
12 years of silence
Frivolous to moments
Shake the hand of lightning

Capillarian
Carnate

Capillarian
Carnate

You don't have to go
Escaping from the long way
And leave us here all alone
Carve
Carve out your soul
Lay it on the alter
And leave us here all alone

This river is running violence
A way to catch our breath
Rising from the mercury
We will climb to bestow our trust

Take away the anchor
Amplify the mystery
Inhale the earth and wind
Map out the plans to our test

I think this song refers to the traveler of the album encountering a river. This only occured to me recently, but a capillary is a blood vessel, and this is Blood Mountain. It would make sense for it's river to be a capillary. Also, the crest of a river, in hydrology, is the highest level above a certain point (the datum point, or reference point) that a river will reach in a certain amount of time. This term is usually limited to a flooding event I think. '12 years of silence' refers to blood mountain erupting after 12 dormant years, and its rivers beginning to flow again. Also 'river flows violence', 'take away the anchor' and 'shattered wave' all enfoce water imagery. Let me know what you think!

I am the law, I'm misunderstanding your post. Are you saying I'm an MCR fan? I'm not. Though I'm not sure if that was what you're saying...

I remember stage diving during the part where they start the lines:

"You don't have to go Escaping from the long way And leave us here all alone Carve Carve out your soul Lay it on the alter And leave us here all alone"

when I saw them with converge, this was before I ever even go tinto them. It was truly unreal.

I think listening to this song can actually make you smarter. Here's why: If you can listen to and process every chord, every drumbeat, and then listen to the song again and again and start to predict those impossibly fast notes, then your mind is working on a plane above most others. Doesn't matter if you're a nuclear physicist or philosopher, it takes some serious brainpower to really hear every drumbeat and chord. I doubt there's anyone out there who can hear every note in this song clearly without totally dedicating themselves to listening to it. This song gets you completely into the moment when you listen to it, and that is much better than what most of pop music does today. Heavy metal isn't all that bad, dammit.

From a medical standpoint the song title has to do with the "watershed area" where blood vessels end and start to return the blood to the body via veins. When the body goes into shock, the blood pressure drops, and these areas are the first to lose blood supply, and they can die. That's why you lose your toes first when you get frostbite.

Goddammit Brann is a fucking genius on this song. That man is volatile with a drumset.

I don't consider myself a "metal" person, but some Mastodon songs are really good, this being the best...I know nothing about the band, so I would sound like a moron if I tried to form a meaning...

i haven't heard a good metal album in ages.. blood mountain would be it.. this being my favorite track right now off it.. the musicianship on it is really good.. almost reminds me of mars volta meets soundgarden or meets ozzy or somethin lol

The melodic part after the craziness is one of the high points of this album. I love this song with it's tempo changes, I think Mastodon are about to hit on something huge.

Isnt a capillarian some kind of caterpillar? It wouldnt be way out of Mastodons league to write a song about a carnivorous giant caterpillar...

The only reference to Capillarian I can find has to deal with caterpillars or a parasitic worm. But when you look at the lyrics it doesn't make sense at all.

I don't know, from the lyrics I kinda get the sense that this is about the main character of the story finally preparing himself for his journey, convincing himself this is what he needs to do. But that really doesn't make sense cause this song is the fourth. Would make more sense if it was the opening song of the album.
