best track on blood mountain
While I can't analyze everything about this song, I think it's a part of the story where the adventurer is climbing Blood Mountain, and the mountain is a volcano.
"Earth has Burst, Mountain Flames", and the rest of the song is his feelings going up the side of this dangerous mountain. The Mountain is a sleeping giant (inactive volcano), that is starting to stir. It can also be a metaphor for their jump to a major label.
Anyways, that's what I see, but it is a great, great song. One of my all-time faves.
"Heavy" isn't synonymous with "good." There's more to music than just being heavy for the sake of being heavy. Personally, I find this to be one of the best songs on the album. The mood and atmosphere it creates is wonderful, and I love the breakdowns in it.

there are few things that annoy me more than people who cant find nothing else to comment on here than how they wish a band catered to their one dimensional musical tastes,if you think he sounds too much like a cowboy and that one minor aspect is going to throw you off go listen to other music,hell better yet,make your own band and your own music,whats that? youre not musically talented enough to do either? no surprise there.

I agree with the inactive volcano thing but i think its also describing the (werewolfs?) first night after aquiring the skull where it starts to control him and hes having nightmares. Also i think he regrets his decision to pursue the skull and his thinking to him self "SHAME ON ME FOR BEING SO GREEDY"
How can anyone say that Mastodon's slower songs suck? Even though they're slower paced they still retain some heaviness. I've loved all of their slower stuff on the other albums too, Naked Burn, Ole Nessie. They all add to the effectiveness of the album as a whole too. They understand dynamics, and to me having the slower paced atmospherics on an album just enhance the heavier stuff. Seriously, how much more ass does Capillarian Crest kick as a pickup after Sleeping Giant? I think this album is phenomenal. It leads the listener on so many peaks and valleys. These guys get it.
