i'm glad i know now what i didn't know then, and glad that i didn't know it at the time.

Slint – Good Morning, Captain Lyrics 19 years ago
... there's a reference to this made in pinback's "afk." i didn't catch it at first listen/had to read the distinction out, but it was worth doing. try it.

Pulp – Do You Remember The First Time? Lyrics 19 years ago
thrill seeks the security that will inevitably return home to offer it to someone else...; ouch. maybe that's what they need to get it for themselves.

mutual abuse. nice.

The Decemberists – Like a Lion Lyrics 19 years ago
"in like a lion... out like a lamb."

everything draws to a close, methinks. this is a nice way to put it.

The Psychedelic Furs – Pretty in Pink Lyrics 19 years ago
the one who insists he was first in the line is the last to remember her name...

fuck. what a detrimental sentiment. ever walked around in a lover's old shirt (or something to that nostalgic affect)? it's not always flattering, but it smells like them. perhaps he's taken on her persona now that she's romping about without it...

rjd: if she doesn't have her dress, she would be naked. yeah. pretty in pink... why did they use this for molly ringwald?

Snow Patrol – Crazy In Love Lyrics 19 years ago
i was beyond jazzed to find that snow patrol had made a cover of the b&j classic... but, alas. it's eww to the tenth power. this is about as awful as iron and wine dragging the postal service to such emo-diocre depths. props to the otherwise fab snow patrol for trying, but... no.

Placebo – Special Needs Lyrics 19 years ago
brian molko is a master of idiom spin. seriously, he takes folk tongue to another level in artistic genius...

but i'm doing exactly what everybody hates on this board: dissecting the band and not the song. so, what does it mean...?

i don't know. i can make my projections, but anything outside of that would be far too literal...; perhaps that's the point with this one? the only universal truth i can discern from this would be to remember the follies of youth... your youth. what were you like at 19? did you take a dehabilitating detour into nose-wrenching drugs, or something else that took you away from your chosen path (stardom, perhaps?). contrasting against these experiences helps you in the end... don't forget that, i guess.
