Carolina Liar – Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics
| 8 years ago
|
@[arydant:6442] The band is from South Carolina and Sweden.
The song was written by Chad Wolf and Tobias Karlsson, who are from SC and Sweden respectively, so your point about the meaning is moot.
I don't care about your biography, just enjoy the music. |

Soundgarden – Blow Up the Outside World Lyrics
| 11 years ago
|
Cornell has struggled at different times in his life with social phobia, this song, more than any other from Soundgarden, seems to tell a story on that part of his life. He's tried everything he can think of, but he feels hopeless and unable to beat his condition. He'd just as soon blow up the outside world. He knows it's wrong, but he's exhausted and just doesn't care about living among society anymore. |

Carolina Liar – Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics

I think the use of the word "Lord" was probably intentional and to be taken literally.
Unfortunately, snobs who think themselves intellectuals will usually break their necks to discount any kind of religious statement. Had he used the word "Universe" or "Love" you wouldn't see this kind of resolve to disprove its meaning, and you most definitely wouldn't see a bunch of religious people saying "I think by 'Love' he really means God because it's what I want him to mean!" So what if the guy was actually having a conversation with God, or believed that he was?
Stop trying to constantly look down on other people and just enjoy the music with an open mind. |

It’s hard to believe I’m leaving just the second comment on this awesome song. One of the best guitar riffs ever, UO’s Sister Havana is one of my favorites. |

One of their best, and that's saying a lot. Greg Dulli is without a doubt the most underrated songsmith of his generation. |

Course of Nature – Caught In The Sun Lyrics

|
Maybe the scariest song I've ever heard.
What if you did miss him / her? Like the song says, what if you were distracted by the sun, and they passed on by in that instant of blindness? What if they've come and gone and are over the horizon forever? Or is there some destiny holding them somewhere in a moment just for us, unbreakable and certain?
Let's hope so. |

The Pretenders – Back On The Chain Gang Lyrics

It's just a beautiful, sad song.
Regret and "what ifs?" are always painful, and in a romantic context, often-times unbearable.
There are so many emotionally powerful lines here.
My favorite being "Like a break in the battle was your part, in the wretched life of a lonely heart."
That part pierces me every time.
A woefully under-appreciated classic in my mind, and absolutely one of my very favorites.
Thank you, Chrissie. |

Audioslave – Show Me How to Live Lyrics

A lot of religious references, particularly Christian, a bit of Frankenstein thrown-in as well. ("Made with stolen parts")
I don't think it should be interpreted too literally. After-all, if you are a Christian, you should know why you're here.
To me it's about wondering why the hell we're alive and wishing there was someone to tell us.

The Smashing Pumpkins – The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning Lyrics

Corgan did say that TEITBITE was about Batman, but whether these alternates are I don't know.
I love how the Watchmen teaser used the song, I felt like it fit perfectly. I was at the Dark Knight premiere when I saw it, and I wanted to stand up and cheer when Nite Owl descended from his craft and hit the street.
A great song about the feeling of being an outcast and about being strong in who you are and not letting 'normal' people define you. |

Finger Eleven – Stay In Shadow Lyrics
|
I feel it's about someone who was in darkness, or hid from the world, because they felt different, for whatever reason. They always hid, and this hiding was just life to them, they were alone and in darkness, but not necessarily sad.
But what happened is someone came into their darkness and found them, and showed them the "light" of love, and the feeling of being accepted. Now this person has ventured out into" their" world, and is experiencing all these new emotions and they feel like for the first time, that they fit with the normal people, or those worthy of love.
But then this love that has found them, and "saved" them from the black, has gone away. Now our hero is left feeling foolish for leaving his hollow, and he is now doubly resolute to return and stay there forever. The rest of the world can go to hell for all he cares, and in fact, in his sorrow, he would prefer it. |

Bruce Springsteen – Lucky Town Lyrics

I remember reading that it was written by Bruce after coming out of a period of what he called self-pity, following his divorce. This song gets me moving. It inspires me to go out and find rather than waiting around to be found. |

Afghan Whigs – Crazy Lyrics

A conversation between former-lovers. About an ex-girlfriend who has chosen to be "kept" rather than to be loved, and she is dealing with all the ramifications of "selling her soul". She tries to justify her actions, but he isn't buying it. i love the closing, "Crazy about ya, crazy without ya". |

I'm with you, army, i couldn't add much to your opinion of the song. Fucking classic. "It's locked it's jaws, and now it's swallowing. it's in our hearts, it's in our heads..." One of the best lines, classic. |

Afghan Whigs – Fountain and Fairfax Lyrics

Whig's classic. I love this song, must be about alcoholism and drug abuse, he's trying to stay clean, but he's suffered a setback because he's seen his lover with someone else. He got clean for her and this is how he is repaid. He's just jumping off the wagon and imagining what's going on between his girl and the person he's seen her with. Beautiful. |

The live version of this song induces sheer euphoria in me. I get goose-bumps every-time I hear it. God, I wish I could have been there for that show. This is one of those songs that you really, really appreciate as you get a little older. A great song. |

Bruce Springsteen – Hungry Heart Lyrics

I love the style of this song, it sounds like an old doo-wop tune. I love the way Springsteen whales in-between choruses, "Uh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh". You can really feel the longing in his voice. A perfect little song, I love it. |

Letters to Cleo – Pete Beat Lyrics

i love this song.
I suppose it's about growing up and apart in a relationship. As you get older, as you evolve, things get strange, things you used to have in common change, people's demeanors change, people lose respect. You want to understand what's going on with them, but they just don't "get" you anymore. You don't want to be alone, and you realize you're getting older, but it's best for them to just go their own way, if they can't help you in a healthy way. It's best not to jump with them. |

Elvis Presley – The Impossible Dream Lyrics

I just saw a performance of this on video featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell in the role of Don Quixote, at the 2003 Tony's. This song is so inspirational, and I rarely can keep a dry eye when I see it performed in context of the musical, Man Of La Mancha. Such an inspirational and heart-warming song. |

Tool – Vicarious Lyrics
|
"Live while the whole world dies" - such a powerful line, it drives the whole meaning of the song home. I empathize with the victims of stories that I see on the news, but at the same time, I am sitting there thinking "I am so glad that that is not me".
I don't think everyone who is drawn to the tragic and morbid relish it, although there are those who do (ogrish junkies). A feeling of triumph is what I experience. They are dead, and I am alive, and it is an empowering feeling. I am not ashamed of it, it is who I am.
As for those who actually find humor in the suffering of others, I hope to see you all on TV some day. I would enjoy that immensely. |
