Martin Eden Lyrics
Black out the windows
It's pary time
You know how I love stormy weather
So, let's all play suicide
The crowd wants you bleeding
The eyes from your head
Get off your knees
You'll be fine-
How wide?
How deep the river?
Black-as dark as night
How long?
How far?
I'll know when I get to the other side
Whatever it is you've stolen
I'll recognize
I'll sympathize
I reckon that I've seen it all-
and start falling-
I breathe in
Unchain myself-
Tonight's the night
No wind, rain, conversation-
Brings me back alive tonight
How wide?
How deep the river black as night?
Black out the windows
It's party time
I see a light
That I recognize...
It's pary time
You know how I love stormy weather
So, let's all play suicide
The eyes from your head
Get off your knees
You'll be fine-
How deep the river?
Black-as dark as night
How long?
How far?
I'll know when I get to the other side
I'll recognize
I'll sympathize
I reckon that I've seen it all-
and start falling-
Unchain myself-
Tonight's the night
No wind, rain, conversation-
Brings me back alive tonight
How wide?
How deep the river black as night?
It's party time
I see a light
That I recognize...

In a word, amazing.
It's about suicide, and it's based on a Jack London novel. Amazing, indeed.
This song sounds so mysterious, but at the same time it's calming. Another great song by the Twilight Singers, definitely my favorite.
yeah, i read somewhere that Dulli was taking a break from recording and read that Jack London novel, which inspired him to start recording again, starting off with this song of course.
You should read the book, Martin Eden. Everyone thinks of wolves when they think of Jack London. Not this one.
Oh, and great song.
If you're an intelligent bloke and have issues with the stupidity of women... then not the best book to read.
Gives wings to sorrow.
I agree it's about suicide and the Jack London novel and it's a mesmerizinly beautiful song. Greg Dulli is a legend to me.
