Dropkick Murphys – The State of Massachusetts Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
"i think the title of the song is a play on words...using state to mean a country AND the culture of it...
p.s i wanna make it clear i do not link child abuse and a bad government to massachusets"
-----------------------------------------------------------
I do. that's first thing I think of when it comes to MA. Also, Minnesota is known for witches, and Idaho for streaking. Texas uses potatoes for currency and Delaware gives out Peyote like it was chewing gum/ It's all true |

Faith Hill – Love Ain't Like That Lyrics

just wonderful, goes against the usual Fairy-Tale idea of love and aims for a realist approach how the best kind of love is developed over time, through loyalty and honesty |

Patty Griffin – Tony Lyrics

wow, I'd sure have to disagree with that first comment. A remarkable and sympathetic song, uses a slur to illustrate how guys like Tony are treated when they are young. Patty is just about the best |

The Hold Steady – Stuck Between Stations Lyrics

|
"She was a really cool kisser and she wasn’t all that strict of a Christian.
She was a damn good dancer but she wasn’t all that great of a girlfriend" - can anyone go back to listening to Fall Out Boy or All American Rejects after hearing those lines? Really? |

Feist – 1234 Lyrics
|
innocent in the way that's it sung and performed. They performed it on Conan last night with Feist singing and a backing band and mixed chorus of very normal but still cool looking men and women dressed in matching light blues. Of course it was incredible. Pure unbridled joy. Except the line "You know who you are" hints at something more. What a song! |

Ryan Adams – Cherry Lane Lyrics
|
there's so many different parts to this song, starts out like he's singing in a honkytonk bar, then moves into a haunting ballad, then speeds up towards the end with the incredible aforementioned refrain of "I could never get close enough, to you" - at this point feels more like a confirmation, a sense of finality. Then a wonderful guitar part wraps it up like a bow on a Christmas Present. There's nobody like the talented Mr. Adams |

Michael Jackson – Human Nature Lyrics

a tremendous piece of art. Love9998 is exactly right, in my opinion - the song is about getting out in New York and experiencing all the city has to offer. Tough to separate his personal life with his body of work, bu this is great stuff |

Tilly and the Wall – Fell Down the Stairs Lyrics

It's a sing along song. No need to analyze the lyrics, it's meant to be sung with kids in the park or adults at a party. Takes a terrible mood and makes it happy. In 3 minutes. the perfect pop song. |

Our Lady Peace – Life Lyrics
|
I would disagree on posts claiming how terrible these lyrics are, this band wrote the song after being inspired by a cancer patient going through radiation treatments - I would venture to say that this song, in the 3 minutes that it lasts, has helped numerous people through trying times both physical and emotional. A tremendous and uplifting song |

Regina Spektor – Hotel Song Lyrics
|
not sure what the exact meaning of the song is - to me it takes on a new meaning each time I listen to it. To anyone who thinks a Mariah Carey is a great singer because she overdoes every note with her histrionics, they should listen to this song. Her singing is wonderfully melodic, understated, and clever. A truly remarkable song |

Steve Winwood – Valerie Lyrics
|
Great Stuff - Winwood said he wrote the song because he knew of people in the music scene who were battling drug addiction and he just got so tired of seeing what the drug use was doing to the people around him- Valerie was one such person ("Then she just blew away". "It can't be that warm with the wind in her arms")
He is saying he can help her ("Call on Me") but she never does, caught in the throes of addiction
In his own words:
'Valerie', for instance, isn't a song remembering this girl I was madly in love with. It's not that at all. It's a plea to a certain girl singer - someone I don't know personally but who Will Jennings had drawn my attention to - not to destroy herself with drugs. The narrator in the song is saying, 'I'm back, and I'm the same person I used to be - so why isn't she?' "
BTW: the lyric is "I can't but help remember just where she touched me" a small distinction but enhances the song greatly |

Cat Power – Lived in Bars Lyrics

Pretty amazing stuff. To answer nbrii's previous question, I think it's just the back vocal singing "sha-bop, sha-bop, sha-bop" perfect as the band kicks into a beat that sounds like a high school dance from about 40 years ago |
