| Neil Young – Crime In The City Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The live Weld version is pretty freakin' badass. But the studio version on Freedom is not crap compared to it. They both have their own unique qualities. The studio version is sonically beautiful in my opinion, all the instruments sound crisp and beautiful with the smooth sax solos over it all. Amazing. | |
| Neil Young – Captain Kennedy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is a fantastic tune. Hopefully more people hear it. | |
| Neil Young – Motion Pictures Lyrics | 17 years ago |

badge I think you misread his lyric: "Well all those people, they think they've got it made but I wouldn't buy, sell, borrow, or trade anything I have to be like one of them I'd rather start all over again" I believe he's referring to movie stars/rock stars who think they have it all just because they're rich. He's saying he wouldn't buy sell borrow or trade anything he has (his memories, amazing music, experience, knowledge, love, hate, etc.) to be like one of those materialistic celebrities (in the spotlight, popular). Some people would like to be like them but he doesn't, and that's his point. Also I might add I believe this song was directed at Carrie Snodgress, his wife at the time. Shakey, I think you got some of it right but I don't think Neil is as unreliable as you think. The pause before "I've got mine" isn't hesitation.. I think it symbolizes him digressing and thinking happy thoughts in his mind (about the mountains) for a bit before he says the "I've got mine". I think it's lyrically/musically genius. And then the second verse he describes his dream (nature it seems) and then reminds himself that yes, he does have his own dreams. This song has always sounded like one of Neil's happiest in my opinion, not depressing. His lyrics and tone seem more hopeful than anything. |

| Neil Young – Winterlong Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I've heard the Pixies cover... I much prefer the original but their cover is great too. I think it's clearly about trying to kick the habit. I love how the lyrics are written as if speaking to a long lost friend or lover. |

| Neil Young – Homegrown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is the ultimate garage/country rocker with so much style... genius. | |
| Neil Young – Soldier Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't think it's about Jesus tiring of war and death.... I always saw it as more of a denial in Jesus/God. I see it saying that Jesus is/was a mortal like everyone else. Obviously these might be the last thoughts of a dying soldier who can't understand why their Jesus or God hasn't saved/delivered for them..... That's my take. | |
| Dead Kennedys – I Kill Children Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My god, you people are thinking way too much into this. I love all the "society sucks, man, and it makes you want to kill people and strangle kids" type comments. I think the intent of this song is completely satirical, aimed towards those who would take it far too seriously. |

| Neil Young – On the Beach Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the lyrics are clearly about the hardships of being famous. He needs the fame to live and survive, but can only take so much of it and wants them to just go away. The first time I heard this song my mind was blown. "All my pictures are fallin from the wall where I placed them yesterday". Who knew such simple words could have so much meaning? "Though my problems are meaningless, that don't make them go away." I love this line. This represents my life right now. I think it says that just because others don't see your problems as meaningful and important, it doesn't mean it's not a problem for you still. Perhaps Neil was referring to when "normal" people say that rich and famous people have no reason to bitch about their problems because they can't possibly have any. I don't think this song only applies to fame either. It represents me very well right now. I'm 18, getting serious about school, meeting girls, driving my own car, no rent money to pay since I still live at home. Basically I'm beginning the period of life that many feel is the prime of life, or "living on the beach". But I have trouble recognizing it sometimes. I have this "is this it?" kind of feeling constantly, and I feel ashamed for even feeling that, but it's the truth. I'm livin' on the beach but I don't know how to enjoy it. |

| Black Flag – I Love You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I don't think this song is out of style for BF, not sure where you guys get that idea. It's obviously about giving your all to someone in a relationship and they take you for granted and don't appreciate you for who you are. And he's probably a little crazy too, hence the killing with the knife part. Or maybe just a drunk ("liquor store"). Or it could imply that he's a complete stalker type nutcase, like how people stalk celebrities and then kill em. |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Suite: Judy Blue Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I almost tear up reading the lyrics to this song. I have a huge emotional connection to this song. I remember driving to the lake as a kid and my parents had this song blasted, singing along. I loved it then, and I love it even more now as I'm older, because I understand the lyrics completely. I don't know the 100% fact and truth behind this song, but I do know the way I see it. I think it's about loving someone and yet they choose to break away from you. They are free, yet you're crying. You have no freedom from the pain. I've cared about people who can so easily brush me off their sleeve like nothing happened. This is how I hear "Please be gone I'm tired of you". |

| Neil Young – Last Dance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This whole song paints the perfect image of getting up in the morning for work, miserable. I feel it's about society's view and concept on how you should live your life - work. Get up in the morning, go to work, come back late in the day. "Feeling like the day is through" is so true. I think there are people in life who can be fine with their lives being based on working like a drone. And then there are others who can't live like that, they are those who live life for the sake of their happiness (which I feel is the way to live). The key is finding the right balance between these two. I think that's what this song is about. Living your own life and not letting the sad truth that you HAVE to work in life actually ruin your life. Most people I talk to have a real negative concept of their work life. For them it's like a weight attached to your foot every day of your life, but they bear with it and continue on that way for whatever reason. I am a firm believer that life doesn't have to be this way. |

| Neil Young – Time Fades Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is SUCH a great song, from a really great album that you only find bootleg nowadays... The lyrics to this song are pretty self explanatory i think. I can really relate. I think its about not getting anywhere in life, feeling like you're stuck. Taking each day for granted, being miserable. But by the time you realize it, it's far too late. I think the lyrics to this go hand in hand with "Last Dance". |

| Black Flag – Room 13 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with zacharyy - No one tops Black Flag in the anger department. The guy is nuts, wants someone to love him but also wouldn't hesitate hurting them. Ginn's guitar playing is more feeling than musical. Just listen to his playing, his picking attack is more that of a trumpet player and a drummer than a guitarist. That's what I love about it. It's pure aggression. He did something new with the guitar, which is rad. | |
| Black Flag – Jealous Again Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love the line "I won't beat you up, I won't push you around, because if I did that the cops would get me for doin' it". | |
| Black Flag – Forever Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| "Get your message from time" - So true. Time is what fucks everything up, time is what fixes everything. | |
| Black Flag – Can't Decide Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is me in a nutshell. You don't know why you're miserable. People ask you what's wrong. You might try and talk with someone about yourself, and then discover they don't give a shit anyways. Can't find anyone who cares. Just keep it inside. Can't decide what to do with yourself. Ginn's guitar work on this song is so beautifully chaotic. |
|
| Black Flag – Black Coffee Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it's about paranoid jealousy about your gf/bf. I imagine sitting at home, staring at the wall, thinking WAY too much in worry about being abandoned/cheated on/whatever. Can't trust anyone. Confusion and paranoia, accompanied by loneliness. | |
| Black Flag – Nothing Left Inside Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
hearts of oak got it right I think... What I love about the later Black Flag was the hard rock/punk/jazz-rock/metal mix of music but that had these sentimental, "emotional" style lyrics. I think that took a lot of balls, and it's great stuff. "Nothing Left Inside" is exactly how I'm feeling right now. It's about loving and caring for someone and then being carelessly abandoned by them. It puts pain in your heart and hurts(Pain hurts my heart). They deceived you about their feelings (Lies). You put a lot of effort into making this person happy but they were unreasonably hard to please (I built it up, broke it down). They used you (Leach). You now feel you connect with no one (Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely boy {I freakin love this line}). You now want them to see things from your side and feel your pain (I want you to see my eyes). Damn, am I rambling or what. A note to ALL : Women are heartless and manipulative. |

| Neil Young – Stupid Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Zuma! What an amazing album, does not get anywhere near the attention it deserves, as does most of Neil's stuff. Anyways, "Stupid Girl" has so much meaning to me. I think it describes a confused young girl who can't forget about her past or can't stop her past from affecting her present. She's confused about who and what she wants, which torments and frustrates the narrator. Out of his frustration she gets called the "stupid girl". That's the way I relate to it. |

| Neil Young – Down To The Wire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This is a great song. I agree with jakegpy that it seems to be about a one sided relationship. The feel of inferiority in a relationship, knowing your time with the person will someday soon meet a sad end, for you. I like the way Neil (I think it's Neil singing this one) is practically shouting the lyrics, trying to be heard. Gives me an image of the frail and young Neil Young behind the mic, giving it all he's got. And the backing vocals to this song really make this song. The "oh oh oh" really gives it a haunting feeling. |

| Neil Young – Already One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Great song. A great explanation of a separated couple whose life and love together are hard to forget and get over because of their adored child. | |
| Neil Young – Human Highway Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
cichon123, I don't know what you mean. The lyrics are far from vague. It's very easy to pinpoint what this song is about. "I come down from the misty mountain... I got lost on the human highway" and "I come down from the crooked mansion" It's referring to how he is in his own world, away from everyone. Living his own way, not involved in the "human highway" of society (or most likely not a part of the whole rock star/celebrity scene thing). Then some people started talking bad about him. Possibly because he unknowingly screwed up somehow ("I got lost on the human highway"), but that's not for certain. He finds out. He feels hurt. "How could people get so unkind?" |

| Neil Young – White Line Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Damn what a good song. The whole album is really. Makes you feel like going out for a drive with no destination. Even if the song really is about coke or speed, which I think it is. "Daylight will soon be breaking" obviously implies he's been up all night. "River of pride" probably referring to the almost manic state you're in when loaded "I've been down but I'm coming back up again" the dreaded roller coaster of addiction |
|
| Neil Young – Albuquerque Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Rock? Don't really know if I'd put Tonight's the Night album into a full rock album. There's a few rock songs in there, but It's definitely country (the good kind of country, not that fake cowboy Garth Brooks crap) to my ears. Or at least country rock. | |
| Neil Young – Out on the Weekend Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
To me this song always seemed to be talking about a person who is with someone, and they love and enjoy that someone, but are still lonely and sad inside. It has nothing to do with the relationship, it's just a mental thing with the person. Anyways, that's how I've always heard it. Cause I can relate. I'm pretty sure the song really means something else but that's my choice. |
|
| Neil Young – The Losing End (When You're On) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I believe the "Losing end" is referring to being in a one-sided relationship, or a past relationship where one person put way more effort into it than the other. By "hard to make love pay" I believe he means it's hard to get what he wants out of the relationship because the other person will only put so much effort into it (lack of caring or whatever reason), and even so, he still tries so hard. This in essence is the meaning of "the losing end". This is how I interprit the song anyway. |
