"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to live tonight in heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." Seriously, how beautiful and poignant is that. |

| Pearl Jam – Got Some Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Dude... this song is one hard rockin mothafucka, I love it. This has gotten me so, so pumped up for the new album. This band just keeps burning brighter and brighter - it's quite amazing really. Now for the lyrics... Initially hearing the song, my first impression was that it was another song looking tongue-in-cheek at drugs (i.e... similar to Severed Hand. But after a closer analysis (and I commend you on doing a good job of interpreting the words) I think this song may be a stab at the record industry. Lets face it, the record industry is in such a dire situation, and will continue to die out in the coming years. At the same time there is a mass of absolutely shit music out there, and rock music really needs a good kick in the balls right now. So I think Eddie's saying that rock music is hard to find right now... but come here if you need some. "Every time you can try but can't turn on a rock song" "Turn it up, set it off, before its gone" But all this is just my interpretation... which Pearl Jam songs are nearly always open to. And I'm mindful of the fact that Eddie often has multiple ideas and themes in his head when he's writing lyrics. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Know Your Enemy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Holy crap, I didn't realise Maynard James Wilson sung that verse! | |
| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is really good... but could have been a lot better. I love the way the story is introduced through Lost Keys... you really get the feeling of being in the hospital, people trying to calm you down and get you to talk... and then the transition into Rosetta Stoned is really distinct. The lyrics to the first few verses are awesome! So funny and clever and I have no idea how the hell Maynard managed to record it... I cannot speak anywhere near that quick if I tried all day lol. But then the song meanders WAY to much... just completely goes into a completely different tone... and a couple of the verses like: Then he looked right through me with somniferous almond eyes. Don't even know what that means. Must remember to write it down. This is so real. Like the time Dave floated away. See, my heart is pounding. cuz this shit never happens to me. Can't breathe right now. It was so real. Like I woke up in wonderland. all sorta terrifying. I don't wanna be alone while I tell this story. And can anyone tell me why y'all sound like peanuts parents? Will I ever be coming down? This is so real. Finally it's my lucky day See, my heart is racing cuz this shit never happens to me. Can't breathe right now. ...are really fairly weak and don't tie in well aurally with the song. Other than that the lyrics in them are pretty poor to. Also, this song should have ended at the 9:38 mark, it would have left much better lasting impact. Instead, it continues on with TWO more sections which add nothing more to the song either musically or lyrically. Overall I like this song a lot, but it won't go down as one of the Tool greats. |

| Tool – Rosetta Stoned (Demo) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ok... anyone got a link to this one? I'd love to hear it. Looks like it might've been the version they created before they came up with the whole Lost Keys / Stoned-guy-in-a-hospital idea... There do seem to be a few themes in similarity though... judging by the lyrics. I guess looking at the general split and disorientated nature of mankind (seems to be a recurring theme in the 10,000 days album, looking at other songs like Vicarious and Right In Two) The persona in this song also seems to be revealing and expressing his feelings, kinda the same as the album version of this song where he is letting go of all he has to express from inside himself. I'd love to hear this. |

| Pearl Jam – Evacuation Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| JBIII, are you out of your fkin mind? REPLACE Sleight Of Hand with Fatal??!! I love fatal, it's a great song and should be on the album, but Sleight Of Hand is one of their most amazing songs ever and Binaural simply wouldn't be the same without it. | |
| Pearl Jam – Im Going Hungry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The meaning of the song is fairly straightforward, it's protesting against people who exploit the poor and helpless. He understands that he himself is well-off in life "my cup's already overfilled" but refuses to exploit others to become any more wealthy. So basically, the first stanza says it all: "I don't mind stealin' bread From the mouths of decadence - But I can't feed on the powerless When my cup's already over-filled" |

| Pearl Jam – Get Right (Matt Cameron version) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You can download this version here: http://rapidshare.com/files/100797191/Matt_Cameron_-_Get_Right.mp3 Again, as with Matt's In The Moonlight version, this is so much more interesting! Matt puts on a much more 'sexier' voice lol in this song... which sort of suits the lyrics... dont you think?? He should have DEFINITELY had the lead vox for this with a proper production of the song. My only problem is with the last bit of the song which is a bit boring and nothing much to it... but as i say, a proper production would have sorted that out. |
| Pearl Jam – In the Moonlight (Matt Cameron version) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You can download this version from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/100799150/Matt_Cameron_-_In_the_Moonlight.mp3 This version is so much more interesting than the Lost Dogs version (as good as it is)! Matt has such a cool voice and i think this should have gotten a proper production and been on the album. Stone and Jack Irons, even Jeff, had songs released where they did the lead vox... so why not Matt? He's a better singer than all those three anyway. Matt wrote this song with an original vision in mind, and it just seems that Eddie took hold of it, did his own version and removed some of the original purity of it... |

| Pearl Jam – Smile Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I used to think this song was meant in a kind of sadistic way, where it was like darkness and the sun not shining made the persona smile, in a kind of evil way. LOL. Now, yeah, it just makes me smile. |
| Pearl Jam – Aye Davanita Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i like the way this song flows into Immortality | |
| Soundgarden – Ty Cobb Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Haha, Ty would have loved this song if he'd been around to hear it. Kickass song. | |
| Pearl Jam – I'm Open Lyrics | 19 years ago |
lets get back to talking about the song please! this song really reminds me to just relax sometimes and just let my imagination and soul take over. its so uplifting to see in the song that the persona eventually decides to dream, and re-claim his soul once more. ...i kinda get the feeling that Eddie may have perhaps been referring to himself in this song, actually. |

| Pearl Jam – Present Tense Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| wait a second... you've only heard Pearl Jam from the Rearviewmirror greatest hits? Do yourself a massive favor and go out and get some of their albums - which are much better than Rearviewmirror. It could change your life - it's certainly changed mine, for the better. | |
| Pearl Jam – Who You Are Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i like the way Bellyfull of Swans talks about this song, and especially the example of how waiting for a train delay made him and his friends realise how it could change what happens to you in a day. its so hard to pinpoint the exact philosophy of this song. it for me just shows how everyone has different experiences and added up they all make us who we are, though in the same sense we are who we are anyway from birth. i love the way Eddie's lyrics allow the listener to search deep into their own souls and just ponder all aspects of life. |

| Pearl Jam – In My Tree Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| such a beautiful song. great guitar and drum work too. | |
| Pearl Jam – Unemployable Lyrics | 19 years ago |

does anyone else think that Gone and Unemployable are related? To me, Unemployable is where the persona becomes stuck in a financially helpless situation. And then Gone is where he finally decides to give up, run away, and leave his troubles behind... |

| Temple of the Dog – Call Me A Dog Lyrics | 19 years ago |

this is just one of the most beautiful songs. its a shame to hear that it got no response at those audioslave concerts. Temple Of The Dog will sadly never get the recognition it deserves. |
| Temple of the Dog – Times Of Trouble Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| beautiful beautiful song, and so true. | |
| Audioslave – Wide Awake Lyrics | 19 years ago |
pretty obviously condemns the incompetence and hypocrisy of the bush administration. "I find you guilty of a crime of sleeping at a time when you should have been wide awake" it's basically saying how the administration chose to neglect it's own people when they were most in need....... meanwhile continued to focus solely on their operations in the middle east. |

| this is my definite favourite JBT song, simply brilliant. my favourite version is the one on the 'Living' live album. | |
| Pearl Jam – Come Back Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Apparently Eddie Vedder said in concert in New Jersey that this song is part two in a two part series, part one being "Man Of The Hour". That part one is the young man saying farewell to his father and part two is the young man two months later wishing he would come back. Makes sense... Either way, amazing song, especially the last chorus, its seriously powerful. Cant wait for them to tour Australia :D |
| Pearl Jam – Man of the Hour Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Eddie Vedder said himself that this song is part one of two, part two being "Come Back" in their latest album. Makes sense. | |

truly, truly, brilliant song. perhaps even the best on the album. it is haunting, chilling, yet completely beautiful. it was almost too much for me to absorb the first few times i listened to it, but i have come to love it. what a perfect way to close out a truly brilliant album. |
| Audioslave – Bring 'Em Back Alive Lyrics | 19 years ago |
definitely a song written through Cornell's Christian perspective. to me, it's about the moral hypocrisy of society. the message of God as seen in the bible is for everyone to love one another unconditionally. but society, who are conveyed as: "just like heathens thinking on our feet believe in god " have distorted the true message and instead are persecuting people in society who are - or try to be - different. They take the bold adventurer (Icarius who tried to fly to the sun) and persecute him for being different by burying him. Then with the leppers, they are made as outcasts because they are different and put on an island to die. "we're one step two step three steps towards the graveyards hello to the memory it seems that we forgot " the closing paragraph there sums it all up. we've forgotten the true message of god to love unconditionally, and it will end up us who are doomed if we continue. |

| Pearl Jam – Breath Lyrics | 19 years ago |

| Soundgarden – She Likes Surprises Lyrics | 19 years ago |

awesome song. it should have definitely been released on the main version of Superunknown (it was only put on the Australian version as a bonus track). the above descriptions are spot on, so i have nothing more to add. |
| Soundgarden – Like Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
it's funny how when something tragic happens (like the bird seeming to commit suicide) your mind tries to escape it by thinking of something sweeter (such as love) but in the end your mind realises how closely related the two thoughts are. Love .............. and ............... suicide We fly straight into love with one another, but so often it ends in heartbreak and pain - and so predictably, too. It's as if we were inflicting pain/suicide upon ourselves. Brilliant song. |
| Soundgarden – Superunknown Lyrics | 19 years ago |
im not one of those crazy people that seem to think every song is about drugs (or Kurt Cobain, for that matter :P) but i honestly thought this one was. look at the first paragraph: "If this isn't what you see It doesn't make you blind If this doesn't make you feel It doesn't mean you've died Where the river's high Where the river's high" ...that could easily be referring to someone experiencing a high from drugs. and the chorus: "Alive in the superunknown First it steals your mind And then it steals your soul" ...that could be interpreted as how drug addiction leads to a person loosing their mind and their soul - and the superunknown is the state of high/euphoria experienced when taking drugs. |
| Pearl Jam – Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
my original interpretation of the song was that a shock accident happened to someone he loved and he/she was dying in hospital. ...of course this interpretation was boosted for a long time as i misheard lyrics in the second verse as "I turned to her nurses, and pulled out a fucking gun" - as if she was dying and he pulled out the gun on the nurses as if to demand them to fkin do something quickly to stop her from dying... |
| Pearl Jam – Big Wave Lyrics | 19 years ago |
basically professing Eddie's love for the ocean. He's said it himself that we evolved from the ocean - the ocean is in our genetic history (i.e "I feel the need Planted in me Millions of years ago") and he wants to go back to it and experience it. |

| Pearl Jam – Life Wasted Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i dont get it, how come people are saying they hate the video? i honestly think it's awesome. it's raw, it's honest - and it has meaning. the images of the band members as dead people has been said to send the message that we're all going to end up dead one day, so make the most out of your life. | |
| Audioslave – Gasoline Lyrics | 19 years ago |
some of you seem a little ill-informed about the context in which this song is written for. it relates directly to Chris Cornell's childhood. He suffered from a severe case of depression during his teenage years, leaving the house rarely. At one point, he spent a whole year without leaving his house, during which time he would play drums and guitar. this song is saying about how he grew to hate his depression and hated the house which it trapped it inside of - therefore it became a haunted house for him. he grew impatient of his depression and insecurity, and just wanted to get the hell out of there, basically. "New day yawning Another day in solitaire Houses honest Clearly more than i can bare Drag me off Before i set my world on fire Out and gone The sun will never set tonight Yeah" Cornell appears to have written other songs about this time in his life as well, such as "Rusty Cage" and "Doesn't Remind Me". but this song totally rocks out! |
| Pearl Jam – Oceans Lyrics | 19 years ago |
is this not the most beautiful song ever made? turn it up LOUD when your listening, it just has such a profound effect on you. i love the way the song compares to forces of love with the beauty of the ocean. "And we're all allowed To dream of the next Oh, ohh the next, time we touch..." ...sends a shiver down my spine, every time. |
| Pearl Jam – Unemployable Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The two lines "So this life is sacrifice To a stranger's bottom line" instantly reminded me of an interview i heard from Eddie Vedder recently. He spoke about how employers these days seem less concerned with the wellbeing of their workers than they are with taking care of stockholders: "I dont know who these people are... that are holding stock that care more about some bottom line than a man or woman's right to walk around feeling that their job is able to pay the rent and do some nice things for their family and get their kids good education, a decent pair of shoes and maybe a skateboard... You know, just... have a life" very true words, may i say. and that's basically what this song relates to. |
| Pearl Jam – Marker in the Sand Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is very critical of modern religion - and reflects Eddie's views. I was listening to an interview with Eddie Vedder recently, and he was talking about how people have been living on this earth for thousands of years, and then modern religion came along a couple of thousand ago: but it hasnt helped anything. people are still fighting (maybe even more so, since there is so much fighting in the name of religion) and the environment is collapsing around us. "What went wrong? Walking tightrope high over moral ground Seeing visions of falling up somehow Do come down With the living let what is living love So unforgiving, yet needing forgiveness first" this section is basically saying that there are so many selfish people following religion just because they think it will take them to heaven but they are walking the moral high road and not actually giving a damn about other people. by caring only about their own afterlife ambitions they have forgotten what love is, what peace is - and it's fucking up the world. Eddie's asking those people to come down off their moral high-rope, come back to the rest of the world, learn to love people again, and focus on making the world a better place. |
