Sage Francis – Eviction Notice Lyrics 10 years ago
The part at the end with "Fuck you! Get the fuck out of my house!" is dialogue from the movie Magnolia.

The Beatles – Oh! Darling Lyrics 10 years ago
As much as I didn't like the Across the Universe version, I did love that they played up the guitar riffs as sarcasm. I mean it's such a cliche "don't leave me" song that it has to be sarcastic and almost going through the motions.

I think "grimeboy" is a mental retard.

Nada Surf – 80 Windows Lyrics 18 years ago
I think he's bored because the society's conventions don't allow him to let loose and have fun. The two situations he's in during the song (a bar & his own bed) are arguably situations that he should feel pretty relaxed. Instead he's longing for a child's carefree and consequence-free relationship with everything around him. Society's conventions make him feel distant.

Shellac – Prayer to God Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is great.

It's a perfect encapsulation of the stage of grief (over a breakup) known as bargaining. Powerful stuff.

Sonic Youth – Genetic Lyrics 19 years ago
Not quite a love song.. There's some bitterness of regret.

Ben Folds – The Luckiest Lyrics 19 years ago
The first verse kills me everytime. There's nothing like being a bumbling loser going through life until suddenly... you find.. "the one".

This song is sappy, but it's great. It's my wedding song to my wife.

It's a little annoying annoying that someone else could find the words for me to tell my wife how much I love her, but then again, it's lucky for me to have stumbled across this song.

Ben Folds – Fred Jones Pt. 2 Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song about getting to the end of your career, your lief and realizing it didn't mean shit. You didn't change the world, you didn't even affect anyone's life. It's such a sad song about a worthless life.

Goddamn. What can be worse than your retirement meaning nothing? All the new people don't really know what you've accomplished or who you are (they don't even know your first name) and they're not throwing a party, they're just getting rid of you. Even the guy in charge of escorting you out is uncomfortable around you.

The world moved on without you. Fred Jones is just a relic that reminds people of a past they can't relate to. This is such a depressing song.

Being Fred Jones is my worst nightmare.

Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics 19 years ago
it's a song about beach erosion... but then it turns into erosion in general. Land, ideals, hopes, dreams.. Everyone gets eroded eventually.

NOFX – Stranger Than Fishin Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think there's a connection beyond the title. The NOFX song just seems to explore how easy it is to be a punk band.

This song is for every teenager who thinks that he's the only one suffering from persecution.

Björk – Bachelorette Lyrics 19 years ago
Everyone's forgetting the obvious interpretation. She's a bachelorette. Her groom is going out for his last night of debauchery, and she watns him to return.

I'm not sure, but I think this song is talking about how his music is just a reflection of his life and vice versa...

Danger Doom – A.T.H.F. (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) Lyrics 19 years ago
eh.. Doesn't stand up to repeat listens.. ATHF is only interesting when you see a new episode, much like this song. It's only interesting the first time 'round..

Anti-Flag – Tearing Everyone Down Lyrics 19 years ago
The song blasts anybody who criticizes rather than help affect any actual change to the world. it's easier and lazier to look down one anybody trying to make a difference than to make a difference yourself.

Built to Spill – You Were Right Lyrics 19 years ago
Damn, "aRealFake" is an idiot.

I think this song is about a breakup or a depression and just being able to relate your life by the music you hear. When you're in a good mood, happy music like Marley. When you're down and out, then negative lyrics in songs stand out as truth a whole hell of a lot more.

Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song just serves to point out that there is a dinstinction between liberals and anarchists, since they mostly get lumped together. They may march side by side against common enemies at times, but they are by no means on the same page and will clash against each other.

Bad Religion – 21st Century (Digital Boy) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think people take this song the wrong way. People assume that he's distracted and made complacent by his "toys". That since he doesn't know how to read or live then he's fucked. It's the opposite. He's rallying against conformity.

He's disapointed by what the world (or America) has become, and he rejects the invitation to conform ("Symbolized bar code, quick ID"). He rejects attempts to tell him how to live properly ("I can't explain it, the things they're saying to me,
It's going yayayayayayaya").

He slams his parents as being lazy and ineffectual, it could be to explain his rebellion, show that they didn't have the power to stop him.

He a 21st Century digital boy. He's part of the new generation of malcontents. He doesn't know how to live or read, but he's got a lot of "toys" (instruments, maybe) that will help him get by.

"I tried tell you about no control,
But now I really don't know,
And then you told me how bad you had to suffer,
Is that really all you have to offer? "

"No Control" and "Suffer" are the two Bad Religion albums that were released before this this album (Against the Grain). Nobody seems to pick up on that.

Bad Religion – I Want to Conquer the World Lyrics 19 years ago
I've always liked this song. It's a race for BR against other idealists to be the first to 'save' the world by making it better. Even though they're all adding to the problem of forcing their version of 'better' on everyone.

The White Stripes – Hotel Yorba Lyrics 19 years ago
I've always wondered about this...

In the 'thank yous' in the CD jacket it lists a Jack "Hotel" Yarber. Does he have anything to do with the song, or was it just making fun of his name?

L7 – Diet Pill Lyrics 20 years ago
I like this song. The narrator kills her husband (boyfriend?) with a frying pan, stuffs him in the matress and takes off.

"Calgon take me away" of course is a reference to the soap commercial. There's no easy solution for her predicament.
