OSI – Standby (Looks Like Rain) Lyrics 18 years ago
what a great way to end a great album !!!!!!
Matheos and Moore make a great team!!!

I think the song is about someone being betryed by another person in any way.. but this person (the betrayed) is saying that theres always tomorrow (the sun always shines) and I'm always gonna be the good open persn that I am (my grass is always green!).
Not really sure about the other lines but I think that most of the lyrics on OSI reflects Kevin's simple charecter and personality.

Though i dont like them at all.. this song is nice, the melodic riffing in the intro surprised me.

Helloween – The King for a 1000 Years Lyrics 19 years ago
Brilliant!!!! I love Helloween.. but I'm not very familiar with the concept of the first two Keepers albums though I love listenning to them but this song is just amazing... the chorus melody is addictive.. I find myself humming the chorus whatever I go.

Hail Helloween !!!!

Deep Purple – Wrong Man Lyrics 19 years ago
Ian Gillan wrote these lyrics about Wayne Williams, who has been incarcerated for child murders in the United States. He dedicated this song to him several times on the "Rapture of The Deep" tour.

I dont know much about this guy Wayne Williams really. But the lyrics here is written from his perspective.

Deep Purple – Highway Star Lyrics 19 years ago
and of couse... how can i forget about the solo. Ritchie Blackmore said once in an interview that most of his solos came out as an improvisation but this was an exception.. and he really likes the middle section.

His best ever solo next to "Child in Time", "Stargazer" & "Gates of Babylon".
Simply phenomenol !!!!!!!

Deep Purple – Black Night Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a great song... one of my all time favourites. It reached the top of the Uk charts. This iwas the first song the markII lineup of the band ever written and look what we have.. a masterpiece. I especially like the live versions of this one where the crown goes humming the riff melody in the beginning.

Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deep Purple Rules !!!!!!!!!!

Deep Purple – Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic Lyrics 19 years ago
i dont know what does "Vavoom" means.. anyway the guys really shine on this song especially Steve Morse, he has a different guitar playing than Ritchie Blackmore but that exacyly what the band was looking for. Thy didnt want just another guy to imitate Ritchie, they wanted something different but in the same time they had to maintain the chracterstics of Deep Purple and look at them today.. they got it !!!!!!

One of the greatest bands to walk the earth !!!!!!

Deep Purple – Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic Lyrics 19 years ago
Brilliant... this is one of the best songs of the Morse-era. It still a concert staple to this day. Great opener to a great album.

Ian Gillan met this mechanic named Ted in a strip bar and he went chatting with him, talking about his job, life and other stuff, Ian wrote these things on napkin and it ended up being a song. The lyrics is self expressing.

Deep Purple – Junkyard Blues Lyrics 19 years ago
Possibly the best song of the Morse-era along with "Sometimes I Feel Like Screamin". The chemistry and the guitar/keys duel in the middle is amazing.. its undescribeable, you have to listen to it to believe it. Many say that Deep Purple was over after Ritchie left.. but this is another proof that shows how the band is still rocking. A 100/100 track. believe it.

Deep Purple – When a Blind Man Cries Lyrics 19 years ago
This amazing song was released before "Machinehead" as a single. I just cant believe that it didnt make it to the album.. it would have made "Machinehead" even more great.

And they say that Purple couldnt write a ballad... what a bunch of idiots.

Black Sabbath – Disturbing The Priest Lyrics 19 years ago
i know that alot of Sabbath-Ozzy fans wish that a song like this would be sung with Ozzy on vocals.. because this is exactly the sound Sabbath were looking during the last days of Ozzy. The sound of "Sabotage".. anyway.. Ian Gillan did more than a fine job on this album. Gillan + Immi riffs = Hell of an album !!!!!!! A Sabbath Classic !!!!!!!!!

There was a group of church members and their priest rehearsing some church choirs next to the place where the BS members at the time were rehearsing (Gillan, Iommi, Butler, Ward). So the priest knocked the door and asked the guys if they can keep it down a little bit and maybe rehearse in some other time.. Ian Gillan apologized to him. So days later.. they were sitting and thinking about the incident and Geezer Butler said "hey, we're disturbing the priest".. everybody laughed, then he wrote these lyrics. This how the song came to be.

Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers Lyrics 19 years ago
what.. ??? Ronnie James Dio auditioned for DP.. really??? where did you hear that ??? I've been a DP for a long long time and i've read a bunch of biographical books about the band and members but i'm sure that i've never heard of this one.

It could be true. It could be something strange but it could have been great!!!!

And by the way.. Ian and Ronnie still best friends and they never had any problems. Ronnie James Dio guetsed on a lot of DP concerts in the late 90's and in 2000's also. In fact he recently guested on Ian Gillan's "Gillans In" album which its a bunch of recorded solo/Dp songs.

Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers Lyrics 19 years ago
A brilliant song.... the best song on the album.. too bad it only needs a solo, DAMN IT Ritchie you could have put an amazing solo to this mangificent song.

I think its about how the band members came
together after years to record the new album (Perfect Strangers).. all the times they had, the tension and the differences in the past, especially between Gillan and Blackmore.

Anyway.. DP gives an example on this album on how to make a good comeback album.. bands like Metallica and Megadeth should takes notes. The best comeback album ever and the best DP album in the 80's.

Deep Purple – The Aviator Lyrics 19 years ago
Brilliant song.. something out of the usual for Deep Purple but still amazing and very beautiful. It has a little celtic/folk feel to it... something i would expect from the former bands of Steve Morse.. Kansas or Dixie Dregs.

I think that Ian Gillan wrote these lyrics about Steve Morse because Steve Morse aside from being a guitar virtuoso and legend.. he is also a commercial airline co-pilot and at some point of his life he actually worked for some airline company for some time.
Amazing song anyway.

Deep Purple – The Battle Rages On Lyrics 19 years ago
In 1993... the tension between Blackmore and Gillan came to a head and Gillan was fired, even DP was thinking of another vocalist but the DP anniversary brought him back. So i think this song about the whole thing between Gillan and Blackmore. One of my favourite songs of the album.. not the best thing DP ever did but its pretty good.

Deep Purple – Pictures of Home Lyrics 19 years ago
What can i say... its another amazing DP classic. Listen to the solo courtsey of mr.Blackmore.. it was the first shades of neo-classical metal which years later will be perfected by the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Romeo.. and even though Yngwie says that the classic influence in his music comes from classical artists other than Ritchie.. but he only wished to be like Ritchie.
Yngwie Malmsteen covers this tune from time to time in live concerts..

Deep Purple – Hard Lovin' Man Lyrics 19 years ago
While DP was recording the legendary "In Rock" album. There was a guy in the studio.. some kind of sound engineer or somethat that didnt like the whole loud hard rock sound of the band. I remember reading Ritchie saying that in some interview. The loud noise at the end of the song was actually Ritchie smashing his guitar just to piss this guy up.
Listen to the galloping main riff. Many credit Judas Priest for the whole galloping riffs.. well its true Priest perfected it... but Ritchie was the first one to come up with it i think. This is another proof why Deep Purple should be considered the first ever Heavy Metal band and not Black Sabbath.

Amazing... my all time fav. DP song. If Zeppelin has "Stairway to Heaven" and Queen has "Bohemian Rhapsody".. then DP has this one and personally i take this one over the former mentioned songs on any day of the week. The solo is one of Blackmore's best and its my fav. solo of all time.

What can i say... its all about THE RIFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some say its quite simple and sooo overated.. well i tell those.. SHUT UP !!!!!!!!! This riff is the mother, the father, the son and the holy ghost of all guitar riffs in the galaxy!!!!
Just listen to the rhythm and feel and the build-up.. PERFECT!!!. The magnificent chorus. No doubt.. this is the most famous DP song and one of the best Rock anthems ever.

DEEP PURPLE ROCKS !!!!!!!

Classic DP. Amaazing riff and a very catchy chorus, even though in 1974 DP had some problems.. they managed to score an unforgetable numbers.. this is being one next to the amazing "Woman from Tokyo".
The lyrics is really starightforward and simple.
Helloween did a nice cover of this one.

Marillion – Paper Lies Lyrics 19 years ago
Brilliant song... the lyrics on "Brave" was probably the darkest written from Steve Hogarth.

The opening lines refer to THE SUN & THE MIRROR.. a very famous newspapers in the UK. I think the song talks about how people easily believe all the things they read in the paper nowadays and how journalists and reporters manipulate the truth sometimes to make a something about nothing really. Also, i think in the first line
"a face you hardly recognise, things to burn your eyes" refers to the runaway girl whom she is the main charecter in the album's theme, the girl talking to her abusive parents.. i dont know. Nice song anyway.

Black Label Society – Blood Is Thicker Than Water Lyrics 19 years ago
Pretty melancholic in a Black Label Society way. I think the two lines in the middle sums up the whole meaning
"They try to break me but I refuse to die
They try to break me but I refuse to cry"

I dont know what he means by Blood and water.. but i think he means that he as a living human (blood) will stil be stronger than water (difficulties of life???).. i dont know really, correct me if i'm wrong. Still... a kick ass tune with a brilliant solo.

Marillion – These Chains Lyrics 19 years ago
I heard Steve Hogarth on Portugesse tv station saying: "what the song is really saying is that quite often we all feel that we are tied down like we are trapped in a box of cage, but the point that the song is making is that these chains are all in our minds and we're all free and this cage that we think we are trapped in, we can walk out of it any time we choose".

Steve Hogarth here uses the theme of a man whose like is fucked up.. his wife left him.. no money.. no friends. Then, this guy realize the whole point of the song.. these chains are all in our minds.

Though i dont like all these poppy songs but the lyrics is nice especially the last lines.. "Born free... but afraid to be".. AMAZING !!!!

Marillion – A Legacy Lyrics 19 years ago
I think they mean the whole legacy of the band.. Marillion. More than 25 years of living the Rock N Roll life and doing albums and shows and staying true to the fans of this band. But the point here i think is that there will be a time where they have to say goodbye and break up.. its gonna be hard for the fans.. its gonna be so hard for the band theselves to even think about this moment but everybody knows that sooner or later its gonna come.

I think the song can be applied to any living legacy... a football player, a musical band, an actor or anybody else.

Nice athmospheric song. The story behind this song is that Steve Hogarth was going to bbc to do an interview an he saw a big hoarding on the highway and it was an ad for the capitol radio, a girl wearing headphones with a phrase saying "Margereta takes requets everyday at ??whatever it was?? am", he liked and changed the name to Angelina and wrote these lyrics.

Marillion – Heart of Lothian Lyrics 19 years ago
cant believe that nobody commented on this one. It has maybe one of the most melodic hooks in the history of Rock.

Lothian is the county/district in which Edinburgh is. Saying you have a heart of Lothian is just saying where you come from. Also, the 'Heart of Lothian', full name 'Heart of Midlothian', is a mozaic heart inlaid into the sidewalk halfway up the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the nearest city to Fish's hometown of Dalkeith. The heart is traditionally spat into when you walk past it, and is a symbol of local
pride.

YES.. Alcohol and drug addiction. Since the "Cluthing At Straws" album deals with such problems. If you notice on the cover of the album.. some of the people who appear on the album are
Robert Burns, Dylan Thomas, Truman Capote and Lenny Bruce, John Lennon, James Dean and Jack Kerouac.
Most of these people died because of alcohol or drug addiction except for John Lennon.

Marillion – Slainte Mhath Lyrics 19 years ago
Slainte Mhath means literally "Good Health" - slainte translates
vaguely as health, "mhath" is the feminine form of "math" (pron."maa"). In Scots Gaelic, we aspirate to make an adjective feminine.
Thus the name "Mairi" (Marie) is given extra feminine emphasis by aspiration - "Mhairi" (pron. "Varry").
It is a gaelic word, too, which is where Fish picked it up. Irish, gaelic (scottish), and welsh are all related languages.

Pronounce "slainte mhath" as Fish does - "Slanzh'va", and utter it when someone buys you a drink!

---- taken from the Marillion faq -----

possibly my fav. song from "CAS".

Good song.. one of those rocking Marillion songs. The main riff screaaaaaaams Zeppelin. I once heard one of the band members say that Steve Rothery (the guitarist) had the riff for more than 9 years!!! then he finally used it in 1994 for the "Brave" album.
