Woman from Tokyo Lyrics
Fly into the rising sun
Faces, smiling every one
Yeah, she is a whole new tradition
I feel it in my heart
My woman from Tokyo
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
Talk about her like a queen
Dancing in a eastern dream
Makes me feel like a river
My woman from Tokyo
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
But I'm at home
And I just don't belong
So far away from the garden we love
She is what moves in the soul of a dove
Soon I will see just how black was my night
When we're alone in her city of light
Rising from the neon gloom
Shining like a crazy moon
Yeah she turns me on like a fire I get high
My woman from Tokyo
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
My woman from Tokyo
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
Faces, smiling every one
Yeah, she is a whole new tradition
I feel it in my heart
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
Dancing in a eastern dream
Makes me feel like a river
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
And I just don't belong
She is what moves in the soul of a dove
When we're alone in her city of light
Shining like a crazy moon
Yeah she turns me on like a fire I get high
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me
She makes me see
My woman from Tokyo
She's so good to me

The song is about hooking up with a Japanese woman and realizing how amazing she was. Put simply, whomever wrote the lyrics got laid in Japan. Why do you think Deep Purple went back to record Made in Japan?
The riff is phenomenol. One of the best ever Dp songs.
my favorite tune of theirs, and great vocals by Ian Gillan - it was no accident that Deep Purple took a step down when Ian left the band and David Coverdale took over
Beautiful....kind of funny thoug!! but nice
It's about a man who goes to Tokyo and falls in love with a girl and turns out to be the most gorgeous girl he's ever seen!
OMG, OK, the song is about their experiences on their 1st Japanese tour. This is when Made in Japan was recorded and Ian Gillan was quoted as saying that he along with other band members were treated graciously by the Japanese people that the song reflects mediforcally the great time they had on that tour. Maybe Ian was galivanting with Gisha girls but what happens in Japan stays in Japan. The song is definitely NOT about heroin as the band at the time was not into drugs. I don't think that Ritchie Blackmore ever smoked cigarettes, just your typical English tea toddler, while Ian Gillian was the English Boozer. As far as hard drugs...that came later with Hughs, Bolin and I think Jon and Coverdale kinda dabbled but far from being addicted.
It is about heroin which DP struggled with. Artists can’t sing about this directly so there are often allegorical references to women in songs which are actually about drugs. This is because ecstasy is associated with both sex and drugs.
A lot of what is described sounds more like being on a trip than being in love - flying, seeing everyone smiling, dancing in an Eastern dream (Heroin is a drug associated with the east.), being carried away on a river and of course “I get high” which is the pinnacle of the song and screamed out.
The lyrics are also wrong in this post they miss out the 3rd verse which is:

This famous best selling song is about devotional meditation (a whole new tradition, i feel it in my heart, she makes me see, etc).
Various references to techniques and effects. Very obvious to someone who has had this same experience.
Conclusion - At least one of the composers (listed above) who wrote the words received spiritual initiation in Tokyo, or else through a Japanese friend.
It's about how Asian women are hot.
