About Dave's divorce, amazing song, haunting. Real good. Obviously he's sad that the relationship has ended, he's going through his memories of the good times, blah blah. He wants to savour every moment with the girl, "Breathe out, so I can breathe you in, hold you in" shows that much. But it's pretty easy to figure out what it's about anyway, I think. Or maybe they got drunk and fucked and Dave got delusions that they'd get back together. |

This is the perfect song to setup Everlong, it just makes Everlong sound even prettier and heartbreaking. I think this song is about that his girl that he loved just dumped him and he's just really down in the dumps to the point where he just feels like he's only hanging on by a thread. He wants to be hopeful with the whole 'temporary scars' thing, saying he won't be feeling like shit forever, but he's still pretty sad. Poor guy :( |

I think it's about a relationship, if he's just quit that relationship in Monkey Wrench, then he wants to get back again in this song. The whole "Your eyes still remind me of angels that hover above" suggests that he still has feelings for her and they probably get back together again by the time My Poor Brain starts. |

Dave has said it's about normal everyday heroes but I think it's kinda to do with Kurt on a subconscious level. Not totally about him though, I don't think Dave was thinking "Oh this song is totally about Kurt" while he was writing it. He's said before that he writes something that, at the time, he has no idea what it's about, and then he realises that it was about something afterall. Weird, eh? |

I agree that it's to do with his divorce, but I think it's mainly about the stage where he really wants to commit to her, but he doesn't realise he's doing it prematurely, hence the shitty relationship. The "I'll meet you there" line suggests to me that he's gonna meet with her and talk about the fact he wants to commit to her, or whatever. |

I love this part. Reminds me of trouble I was having with a girl who said she liked me, then turned bitchy. That line summed up exactly how I felt at the time. I agree with what you guys say about the handshake line. It pretty much sums up the whole song. The guy and the girl used to be together, now they're not, and when he sees her he's not sure whether he should just shake her hand (try to be just a friend) or fuck her (try to get back together), and it gets to him, he feels like he's getting stuck, makes him a bit crazy, hence the title 'My Poor Brain.' I think that the actual music of the song shows his emotions flaring up and down too, the chorus is loud, the verses are soft (mainly). |

This is basically about how Dave is over the whole divorce now, he's not scared to move on. He's also getting kinda nostalgic, thinking about his past in general too. I love it when he sings: "If you can manage me I'll try to manage you but lately that's all I ever do" It just gives some insight as to how his marriage was at that point they broke up, but he was convinced that he loved her and he wanted her back. "I'll never tell you the secrets I'm holding I love this leash that holds me when i try to run away" |
