| yeh I think it is better than white noise, a few of the other tracks on the album are (kid, sum of us, loaded gun) To me since the living end are from australia, this song is about having enough of the hectic and commercialsed life presented in the two major cities in aust--- melbourne and sydney. Its gone downwards, and its all the same no matter how hard it tries to market itself ('i don't care what you've got in store') and for the singer the best thing is to give it all up, pack up and head north to somewhere warmer, say like queensland to have their moment in the sun. The way the song being sung, I'm guessing its a couple that are moving up, but it could be friends, brothers, or 2 forms of consciouness from the same person. | ok this is a long shot, But given the first few versus of this song, could this song be about how getting involved in a new relationship can help mend the damage the past has caused you. Ok amalyse is an enzyme that helps breaks food down, and if I'm not wrong it's secreted in our mouths to start the food breakdown process. So maybe amalyse (which is an actual catalyst (i think in the breakdown process) be used concurrently with the person he has the new relationship with (so the one he is calling the catalyst (that makes things faster) in the lyrcis) so that by kissing (exchanging amalyse) and being in love etc enables him to move on and get on with life and move on from the past (as he says amalzye will dry out the plaster/(or the reminants of the past). maybe, maybe not | |

Given the trend of most of this album, I'd say the person is thinking aloud to themselves, like their own conscience talking back. It's realisation that all their problems, alienation, depression, anger, isloation and anxiety has been caused by a continued bad habit. That all things turn to shit becuase of one constant, themselves. Thus they realise the world isn't all fucked up and agains them, but instead they are their own worst friend and closest enemy. Say like from doing drugs, looking up to much porn, or just plain excessive masturbation which ever outlet they escape to. Anyway it fucks up the chems in the brain, and hence the visor they see the world is fucked, why he keeps saying the sky will fall down on you, but the world keeps spinning round etc |

Its been years now, when the hells the follow up coming, anyway I guess this song if placed on american idiot , could only replace whatshername, I assume the she, in she's always living like shes running out of time is whatshername, and so this song is a kind of a final fuck you to whatshername. LIke the dude's gone through all that crap in homecomeing to leave him how he was before jesus of surburbia, and all he has is his experiences, the line we are we are but I'm not, is kinda of like the title character throwing shit of the scene that accepted him, and that he was a part of, so like it follows on from homecoming, he's dissolved himself completely from his past and moved on in his own way right or wrong 'see you in hell, fuck you etc'. It's a pretty good song, sound wise, I gues they didn't use it because it really would;ve changed the feeling american idiot as a whole leaves to you. This song is shithouse, by the numbers safe, what was once an exceptional song about the state of the anxiety driven world (xanax and wine) has been turned into a safe by the numbers fast cars. What the hell is with changing the chorus to 'these fast cars do me no good' from 'save me from myself, trying not to look so bored' Xanax and wine was actually one of the last great songs bono wrote, questioning society's addiction to bullshit like myspace, msn, online jounral, etc and how living up to a fake image online, and not reallly socialising has lead the westgern world to the mass low self confidence and anxiety problems it now faces (think how many young people nowadays are on antideps, or as bono says xanax and wine will stop it) I just think its sad u2 don't wanna do anything controversal anymore to keep the social elite who still go to rollingstone concerts going to their concerts, they are still a great band, but if they are going to change a great social commentry that was xanax and wine, into this rubbish (just like they turned anti war, native son, into pop tastic vertigo) then they have no merit anymore, Is the money really worth it, I can only hope the same thing doesn't happen to green day |

this is really a surprising song, i never knew just how good the lesser know tracks on insomnia were (86, stu & the ave and this). Yeh i guess it's about taking control of a life thats gone fucked up, and even though it's really hard just moving on physically and mentally from the past. (the early bits prevailing nothing made sense, blank decision really bring this out) and I guess in the end it was the right decision I just think this song would rise to a greater level, in they didn't rush into the end (the bit before is it salvation etc) and just have another bit of the chorus, it's a great song but it's way too short then again same canbe said for all insomniac |

I can't believe only 2 comments on this song, one of their truly beautiful timeless song, you listen to it and just feel like your floating out of time where nothing matters, the harmony this song creates is incredible anyway I was on you-tube and found some u2 interview on japanese tv from back in 1983, bono said de niro's 'taxi driver' film inspired this song I guess it kind of makes sense, maybe sadie is how jodie fosters character would've ended up if de niro/travis didn't help her out The last few lines, 'if I wanna live I gotta die to myself someday' could refer to travis's exile from the social world, and how he goes on the mission to kill the pimp and mafiso while nearly killing himself, which I guess breaks him out of his slump?, althought the ending of taxi driver isn't really clear, so maybe this song more refers to jodie fosters character being 'sadie' |

When I first heard, all I could think of the very very similliar sound of the intro, to the guitar in 2000 light years away, and thought it was just greenday taking the easy way and ripping off a better song, from what we be a less known album (as on independent label, vs major label of dookie). But since u dudes been saying it'a about a bad time he had with his wife, then maybe the starts a bit more clever than a basic rip off. As the guitar sound at start of this song is slight distorted when compared to start off 2000 light years away, maybe musically their expression the distortion he's had wife adrienne and how things that seem so prefect (since I assume billie is expressing how awesome it was to start going out with a girl of his dreams/adreenna in 2000 years) have for some reason turned to shit, I guess the line 'strange you've become my worst enemy' sums it up, life could be great but sucks, go figure, muscially brilliant, so guess I was wrong |

It seems the first half of the song, billie joe is expressing first person view with someone who's fed up, and pissed off with life, it can get very easy to feel like this and u just don't give no fuck anymore, and want it all to be blown away, but then It seems second half of song after line "do u ever think back to another time" billie is steping out of the easily pissed off persona, and saying maybe your just making a massive problem in your head, and if u look at things differently it ain't so bad, the line do u add one problem that adds up to nothing, and finished with to me it means nothing So i guess in a way, the dude saying yeh fuck I've felt this shit, this deeply pissed off, but then he's being subjective in the last bit and asking u is suicided really worth it, it goes a along with the first line of basket case 'whine about everything and nothing at all' but after all these years, I never knew how actually deep this song was, pretty all of dookie is the same top stuff still 12 years on |

It's a great song, that could be interpreted as the sever desperate love someone feels for a girl that forever circumstance they can't have, she's taken, he's afraid, and the pain of not having her when she's right there is too much 'please die ana', the obsession of such a thing is well put with the 'love you to the bones'. I intially thought it was also about how his obsession for ana has lead him to schziophrenia (as long as your here 'we're' not) and in turn prehaps the metaphors and references to anorexia highlight the physical consequences of mental obession The video clip isn't quite clear, there is a girl in the video, but whether she is another aneroxia sufferer going throught the pain or ana herself is not sure, also he starts the song in a wheelchair and by the last choruous has a superimposed image of himself standing up to belt out the final lines of 'open fire etc maybe in the end (combined with the imagery of the girl on the shoreline) the song is about mental freedom from a dark and deep obsession (whethers in a chick or anaeroxia doesn't really matter in the end, u get his point) |

Wow, i was just listening to some mtv random hits collection, and I came across this song, it's quite amazing, it;s very simple, but out of all the songs I've heard it sums me up the best. I used to think the recent situation was something akin to the story told in the american idiot album, but I realiase I only made, or rather exaggerated my situation to that point, and really the underlying problem, was that I tried to be 'everything to everyone' So it's a song where a person probably has some severe insecurities about himself, and dictates how his life should be lived by following the popular Thus he hangs with the 'cool' people and even when they put him down, he passes it off as 'he just playing the role of the clown' But it's not untill we step out our sitatuion for a while that we realise how pathetic we are, which is probably why the singer is pleading ' why won't you ever learn' Guess it's a song for the current formation/setup of soceity, but if we can eventually realise it's all bullshit, we can get our life back on track |
