I think the general message is to take every situation as a learning experience and not get too emotionally wound up over it because that would be non-productive. Just take the knowledge and apply it to the next thing. Basically, separate the wheat from the chaff. I also wondered if the lyrics "family of trees wanted to be haunted" is referring to money, since money is made from paper or "trees." Another perspective could be that you should control yourself and not let money/possessions rule your life. |

| MGMT – 4th Dimensional Transition Lyrics

I think this song describes the transcendent experience of sex with a being perceived to be so divine that they cannot possiby be 3D (human). The being exists in 5D and their shadow is 4D. With her he is transcending time, space, reality, all the angles that limit him in his 3D existance (corners, walls, roofs).
He experiences her like one would feel the wind-just feeling the sensation. I think he wants to experience her (this state of divinity) all the time if she would let him. He doesn't want to separate from her and bases his reaction (post separation) upon her reaction. Either the experience is romanticized/feelings reciprocated or shrugged off as something mundane.
This song may also be just about having a life changing, mind-blowing, transcending experience in the mind (not necessarily sex related) then "coming down" from that experience and wondering if this is going to change your life or if you will just continue with mundane life seemingly unaffected afterwards. |

I think the song is about a person that is balancing the risks and rewards of making major life changes. It's exciting to think about living life to the fullest but there is a price to live that life because it involves change. The luxuries we have known throughout our existance such as our family, friends and memories will need to be brushed off in order to rationalize making those big life changes. We strive to avoid stagnancy and it means giving up all the comforts we have known, but what can we do? We don't wanna go out knowing we didn't see what else was out there... |

The song and video allude to obtaining a self-actualization experience. Maslow refers to "peak experiences" in regards to his heirarchy of needs. "It is a heightened sense of reality, an expansion of awareness, a sense of oneness with the universe, and an extreme clarity of thought and understanding...People go around chasing these experiences as intensely today as they have ever done, often through venues such as music, dancing, extreme sports, meditation, drug use, sex, exercise, prayer, love, and so forth" (Mary B.). | Incubus – Nice To Know You Lyrics

He is starting to feel a sublime feeling. A feeling so wonderful that it’s like the awakening of an injured limb (the supposed inspiration for the song concerns the healing of his broken arm). The song also refers to an internal awakening. An awakening that has completely changed his perspective (bird’s eye view, wood for the trees). He is saying goodbye to anxiety (pins and needles). Nice to know you pins and needles, I’m embracing a new life philosophy that doesn’t include worry and fear. When he says “could it be that it had been there all along,” he’s wondering if this wisdom/power has been with him, inside of him, his whole life and he just hadn’t accessed it. When he says “Nice to know you. To know… You,” I believe the second “you” means he’s saying goodbye to himself or the old him. |

| Nelly Furtado – Turn Off The Light Lyrics

She feels alone at night. This feeling of loneliness will subside during the daytime but will return at night. In astrology the sun represents the ego and the moon represents emotions/needs. Therefore she is wrapped up in her ego during the day (sun) and deals with her emotions and needs at night (moon). Her actual sun sign is Saggitarius (freedom-loving) and her moon is Capricorn (seeks stability). She has conflicting emotions/ideas about love and relationships and cannot decide which route to take. TDuring the last part of the song (starting at "where is your logic - where can you turn to in your delicate time of need"), it seems like she's trying to talk herself into (the logic of) finding love. |

I think this is about a person that is used to intellectualizing/rationalizing their emotions. They live in oblivion because it is easier that way. At the same time they understand they are missing out. |

I think the song title "Midnight Swim" is a clever way of changing the wording of "midnight's whim." Note the lyrics, "a careless whim." An act of deviant exploration perhaps? |

| The Sundays – Here's Where The Story Ends Lyrics
| 17 years ago

I think this song is about a person who is aliented from society ("I'm on the outside") due to her inability to resolve past issues. She undergoes an emotional journey when rehashing the events that took place during this time of her life.
Her feelings flow from regret/guilt ("I never should have said the books that you read were all I loved you for"), to embarrassment/vulnerability ("The memories of your shed make me turn red") and to blame/accountability ("The devil in me said go down to the shed").
She eventually sees the humor/irony and the good things that came from the situation. For example, during most of the song she states that the "little souvenir" "makes my eyes feel sore" and "makes me wonder why," whereas the lyrics near the end state that the little souvenir "makes me smile inside." Moreover, as another reviewer stated she refers to the once "terrible" year as "colorful" towards the end of the song.
As much as she wants to be completely upset, she can't. Life is bittersweet. Sometimes it takes time to process things and appreciate the value of past experiences. I think the title, "Here's where the story ends," means letting go of resentment, attitudes, memories, and/or relationships. |

| Fuel – Falls on Me Lyrics
|
I think the song is about a guy who lives in a prison he has created for himself (“this black hole I’ve dug for me”). He finds security and comfort residing in this world of darkness. He is involved with a girl that he takes for granted. He is a narcissist that mainly focuses on his own insecurities, his problems, etc. and sits back and lets her take care of him emotionally and physically (“she washes all my wounds for me”).
In a moment of intimacy (“hands touchin’ skin, shock breaks my disease”) he has a breakthrough where he feels that she is “the one.” He feels liberated by this fantasy that he could love her but at the same time he feels overwhelmed because he realizes that she has dreams and expectations out of life and he doesn’t know if he can fulfill them (“Am I that strong to carry on?”).
In their current relationship she is the one always trying to make him happy and he has never had the burden of trying to please her. Moreover, the phrase “the sky is falling” induces panic and implies that everything you know to be true isn’t or will soon change. “Your beautiful sky falls on me”-His world that he has known for so long will change if he lets her in and he panics at the thought of having to fulfill her beautiful dreams.
He contemplates how their worlds will be altered if he gives in to this whim of starting a new life with her (“I might change your life, I might save my world, could you save me?”). He is ultimately still focused on himself, (note the use of I, I, my and me in the last set of lyrics) remaining emotionally unavailable. The strumming of the guitar at the end of the song (after the powerful solo) sounds vulnerable and the way it fades out is reminiscent of defeat/surrender.

| Orgy – Fiction (Dreams In Digital) Lyrics

I think that the song is about a girl who forces herself to live life in a robotic way and exists in a dreamland of emotional avoidance. She thinks and acts in this detached way because she was vulnerable/caught off guard at some point in the past (the virus caught you sleeping) and has since acted very detached in order to have control over her life and feelings (she dreams in digital...now that control is gone). She used to be somewhat obsessed with him (I used to compose/control your dreams) but he hurt her and now she feels empowered by her jaded attitude. His finger is "on the kill switch" because he feels that he has the power to shut down her defense mechanisms and expose her true emotions once again. I always think about Android 18 when I hear this song! |

my guess is that the telephone thing represents a long distance relationship and the person is outside of his reach and this makes him feel torn (away from his love). Drag the miles to me (bring yourself here!) He's getting wore down and sexually frustrated. =) |
