"You think you're taking me
But I'm going elsewhere"
"You had your way with that girl
Like I'm out of your world
Struck by my good luck
Face it, you're old and out of touch
OUT OF TOUCH!"
Man, you left out the best parts. |

What about the part "This is the sound of the revolution"? That's my favorite line, and it's not even written on here. |

This sounds to me like the guy in the song really doesn't care about the girl and treats her like shit, and she won't take it despite his apologies and appeals.
She hates being treated that way (You're breaking my spinal chord...) and finally tells him to fuck off (Oh please drop dead). |

This sound to me like he went somewhere (Cairo...) where he could be whoever he wanted and get lost in the moment, but perhaps he didn't feel comfortable losing control, or he didn't feel like the carefree life was enough like what he had always experienced. |

So, 'bout those added lyrics in the booklet... I never saw it, because some girl I was friends with a billion years ago LOST IT (that bitch...).
But I've always seen it posted on lyrics sites and I was intrigued, especially the line about "sweat and perry ellis". Isn't Perry Ellis a clothing brand or something? I'm terribly confused. Any insight? |

This song makes me want to run around and scream angrily... especially the:
You've got to know what they are
Fore you can stand up for your rights
Rights, rights?
You do have rights
Seriously, this song helps me relieve a lot of tension.
I think Kathleen is telling girls to stand up for themselves, that it's ok to be themselves and to express their opinions and feelings in a world where being cold and distant is considered "cool". |

I love this song... it's so screamy and terribly unlike the rest of their music. It's one time on this CD that you really feel pure, unadultered anger surging through the lyrics. |

Good song. This is going to sound really gay, but Panik is my Myspace display name. :D |

| Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics

I find it terribly pathetic when people are so insecure that they have to insult others in order to feel self-worth. But I think Street Spirit just about covered everything else that was to be said about that.
Anyway, I, of course, think this a beautiful song. The way I always had read it was that he met a girl at a bar and was basically looking for a companion. She, on the other hand, was just looking for a good time and wanted to forget everything. Though he tried to feel the same way, he wasn't able to.
I always thought the last chorus through the line 'and to hurt' was from the point of view of the girl. I never even considered that he could be bi, I assumed the gender change intended to show that stuff like this doesn't happen only happen to one gender. |

Oh yes, the meaning and such.
To me, a guy used her and made her fell like shit, and then desperately wants her to still be his.
[I can really relate. I hate you, Jon...]
Anywho, I'm confused by the words "Afraid of girls and afraid of girls' chests". I mean, perhaps I misheard, but I'm fairly sure that's right. I find it to be humorous, actually. |

Yah, so I'm an idiot (how ironic with the song title!) and i jsut figured out it's saying 'I don't want your charity', not my little [something]. |

This song is gorgeous. The first song I heard of his solo work. I especially love the beginning. And the awesome techno feel of the whole song. It really counteracts the humanity of the lyrics with the precision of machines. |

Exactly. I admit, I'm human. I judge people on appearances. But every girl can be a soldier, whether she's a 'lesbian dyke' or a teeny-bopper in a leather mini-skirt. |

Yes. It's obviously about the whole tour thing. But, (I know I'm going to sounds like a loser) but I'm taking AP US History this year, and I just learned about Henry Kissinger, and thought of this song. Does anyone know what that's about? |

Yes, this is an amazing song. I mean, the first two lines could be so cliche, but they're NOT. They're amazing.
I love you, Kathleen Hanna. |
