| Matthew Good – Silent Army In The Trees Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Clearly about a person who is in the military and reminiscing about them pretending to be a soldier as a kid. It also obviously compares the brutal differences. A very powerful song, and clearly a topic he's very passionate about. I remember this song being played back in... '06 or '07? Anyway, clearly he liked it so much he improved on it and put it on the new album. Glad to see it. |

You can find the demos on Youtube. Just search for "Matthew Good explode", and check out The Boy Who Could Explode. Then in the related links (or that user's) you can find a bunch more. One thing I would note, is that the lyrics above have one mistake I found (could be more). I think it should be "On the shore, grinnin', a hundred feet away." As in, people are taking pictures and smiling at the absurdity of a huge problem, without realizing they impact it's just about to have on them. I agree Jbuck that Silent Army is a great song. I also expected it to be the single, but Last Parade is a little more upbeat, so I understand why it came first. Not that I am disappointed! |

Fantastic return by Matthew Good. I love this revisit to his "big" style of song. Hospital Music was a great album in many ways, but I am glad he's returned to his epic style of recording. The songs on Vancouver (the demos so far) feel like a proper sequel to Avalanche. |

| Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It actually makes perfect grammatical sense. Think about it. Haven't you ever heard anyone say "If I knew that, I would..." Knew is the present as well as past tense. Know is "to know". I'm not an english major obviously, but it's very clear that knew is the appropriate word in this situation. And it also clearly sounds like knew. Also, it sounds like "wise up" to me. |

| Matthew Good – The Boy Come Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Also, "so I go over it in my head I walk through those doors" Should be So I take this screaming in my head, I walk through those doors" I'm not sure how that mistake was made, as they don't sound very close. |

| Our Lady Peace – Trapeze Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I hope one day they will release a CD with songs like this that they recorded and laid down, but never released. Kind of like what they did with Kiss on the Mouth and Better Than Here. I would love a CD filled with stuff like Out of Here, Trapeze, Not Afraid, Vampyres, etc. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Better Than Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yeah I'm going to stick with the assumption that it's about a person getting full of themselves and leaving their old life behind, but their friends are telling them to stop, that where they came from is really not so bad. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Denied Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about religion holding humanity back. This is very clear if you look at the lyrics for the song before it was recorded, back when it was a demo. This and Neon Crossing were both attacks on religion as something which is backwards. | |
| Raine Maida – One Second Chance Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure it's not Anne Mclellan he is referring to, as she has not a whole lot to do with what he is talking about. He refers to Bev Oda though, the current Heritage Minister, who is basically bought off by the recording and copyright industry, who Raine fights against. And it is definitely not referring to any American civil war soldiers, as the song has to do more about personal freedoms and political outrage than historical events. I would wager it is McCluhan pronounced a little differently while he was recording. |

| Our Lady Peace – Blister Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Considering how Raine has really never written about relationships or breaking up, I would throw my support behind the mentally-ill story, or being in an asylum or something. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Dirty Walls Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yeah, it seems to be saying that the walls are dirty because of all the horrible things that are said in shallow conversation. Same thing with the line about all he sees is mud. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Angels/Losing/Sleep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm always impressed by how great Raine's writing is. You don't see enough songs like this, with obscured meanings and powerful messages. Now most kids want to hear about junk in trunks and how they just can't take their horrible, horrible teenage lives and it's so hard to move on after they break up. That's kind of why I didn't like Gravity that much, as it seemed to appeal to that group of thought. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Stealing Babies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Raine has stated numerous times on stage that this song is written to God (even though he has also stated he doesn't believe in a religious god), about how God can kill babies with AIDS and how it just doesn't make sense. And yeah, the lines in the epilogue portion should read: It must be our egos, it must be my lack, Of faith that it might not come back. x2 |

| Our Lady Peace – Better Than Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah it would make more sense grammattically if it was "where are you going?". But a lot of their songs would make more sense if they sang it the way it should be to be correct. ;) I write the lyrics down as he sings them, not as what the correct version should be. |

| Geoff, I agree with you on this one, along with the others above you. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Better Than Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah, Better Than Here and Kiss on the Mouth are what HiPT should have for sure. They are still a little too clean for my liking compared to Naveed or whatever, but they've got great sounds nonetheless. I've heard rumours started from Jeremy Taggart that OLP is pretty much broken up now and going their own ways. I hope they can put out at least one more good rock album. Stuff like the two new songs. I mean, there was so much good demo stuff not even used on HiPT that I've heard clips of. Vampyres for one. They have like 25-30 songs they recorded and never released! At least let us hear them, haha. But yeah, I want one more CD with the classic OLP sound, with lyrics that make you think and layered guitars and bass and assymetrical drumming and everything else we've come to love. I just hope they've got one more left in them. |

| Our Lady Peace – Better Than Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I have a feeling this song is all about the grass being greener on the other side. As in, the person in this song thinks somewhere else is better, the "grass is greener" so to speak. However, Raine is saying that it isn't, that there is nothing wrong with him or the place where they are. Whether he is describing a physical location or perhaps the state of their relationship I don't know. To me it seems that he is discussing a person moving away or moving up in the world and forgetting about where they came from. This song is on the CD "A Decade", OLP's best-hits CD just released in North America. It's a great song. Less over-produced than the songs on HiPT...maybe because this song was never rounded out for the CD. Kind of like Kiss on the Mouth. |

| Our Lady Peace – Out Of Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Great song. One of their best. The lyrics above are ok, one big mistake is it should be "the future brings the truth". | |
| Our Lady Peace – Kiss on the Mouth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I should mention that the single that was released off of "A Decade" which is on the radio has slightly different lyrics since this was from the live version they toured with. | |
| Raine Maida – One Second Chance Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Pretty clear what the song is about: General dissatisfaction with the way politics works in general in modern times as well as how everyone is nearly powerless to change it. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Kiss on the Mouth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
These lyrics are for the live version, I should mention. The newly-recorded song on A Decade is a bit different. Basically the same though. Anyways, I think it's about beer, or alcohol in general. |

| Our Lady Peace – Kiss on the Mouth Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I have some videos up now of the July 20 show. In the end I should have In Repair, Will the Future Blame Us, Kiss on the Mouth, and Starseed. http://youtube.com/profile?user=LeaderMan |

| Our Lady Peace – Neon Crossing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've read somewhere that it was indeed about organized religion. Raine likes to target religion in about 1/2 of his earlier work (Spiritual Machines and before). Not to say he isn't spiritual though. But he doesn't believe in the concept of organizing it, | |
| Our Lady Peace – Stealing Babies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The lyrics should be corrected. The correct end lines are: It must be our egos It must be my lack of faith that it might not come back. x2 But anyways, I heard Raine tell the Eve AIDS girl story too. I know Lying Awake is about a televangelist though. |
|
| Our Lady Peace – Angels/Losing/Sleep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| As someone above said, this song has been confirmed by Raine himself to be about watching a person you love realize that religion isn't correct. It's about wathing them go through the loss of faith, and only being able to wait until the process is over to help them move on. | |
| Our Lady Peace – Kiss on the Mouth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| By the way, I'm seeing this on July 20th in Regina...I'm very excited. It's a small club-like performance at the Casino Regina Show Lounge. It's the only 19+ performance of the tour, so I hope they really let loose! | |
| Our Lady Peace – Kiss on the Mouth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Here's a link to a good version on YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=AW2t0R1zCv8 It is an awesome song. Songs like this should have been on the new CD, instead of the poppier stuff they did. Oh well. Apparently they are working the next CD really fast, which should hopefully translate into a rougher sound. |

| Our Lady Peace – Not Afraid (Live Juno Version - Best) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I saw them perform this live at the Juno Awards...wow. Here is a YouTube video of it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KCtRFxcc_lc By far my favourite OLP song, and all the more shame since it was never recorded in a studio or put on a CD. Yeah I know they recorded a poppy version for a beer CD...but this version is classic OLP. Raw and thought-provoking rather than about teenage angst. Regardless, it's a great song and I hope everyone takes a look at the video for themselves. |
|
| Our Lady Peace – If You Believe Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Considering how Raine makes half his songs (or so it seems) about how hollow religion is (but not spirituality), I have a feeling that would be the topic of this song. Now, whether it's approaching it from the side of the person trying to believe and be happy, or from the side of the religion trying to convince a person to believe and be happy...I don't know. But I'd bet $5 on this being about religion. |
|
| Our Lady Peace – Middle Of Yesterday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
SM is not about addiction, it's about machines reaching consciousness in the future and how humans will react with them, and what it will mean to humans and their spirituality. It's based on "The Age of Spiritual Machines" by Ray Kurzweil. Not really a concept album, but close. |
|
| Our Lady Peace – Love and Trust Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Raine has already stated that this song is about divorce. It's about a child going through the process and wonderinfg if their family is going to be there for them. | |
