The Boy Come Home Lyrics

While I go over it in my head
I walk through those doors
stand there staring

there ain't one soul that's in there dead
my hand stays out
to keep my head

walking out I see you sitting
in that Ford of your old man's
scratching your arms
like your skin is crawling
but done up the best you can

faith was piling through your window
them Papas they can't tell
strange to think we could have been so
brought up by ourselves
run through the streets like rivers raging
to seize our baron sand
why other grain tears you apart stay
done up the best you can

running for the line stretched to the desert
and our camoflouged hotels
we're traded up to new distinctions
puts justice in your shells
take one for the team and that pretty lady
used to cover up the smell
when you get back boy your just crazy
if you dare kiss and tell

this aching heart ain't something I done
this aching heart's been handed down
but I'm done with it now

so I go over it in my head
I walk through those doors
and stand there staring
my hand slips into my coat
and everything just freezes
running out I see you sitting
in that Ford of your old man's
the boy come home, yeah

These lyrics are wrong. But I only part I can understand is:

"running for the line stretched to the desert and our camoflouged hotels"

should be

"unemployment line stretched to the desert and camoflouged hotels"

Makes me think this song is something about someone coming back from a war.

Also,

"so I go over it in my head I walk through those doors"

Should be

So I take this screaming in my head, I walk through those doors"

I'm not sure how that mistake was made, as they don't sound very close.

I was just reading the REAL lyrics of this song which are pretty different, and I think I might have an idea of what it's about.

We all know Matt's stance on America, war, poverty etc, right? Well, this song could be about soldiers going into third world countries and waging war against them for petty reasons (ie. oil, money, nukes, power). I get that from the second verse. The lyrics are "face first pilots through your window - (kamikaze soldiers?) them paupers they catch hell! - (the poverty stricken villagers getting attacked?) it's strange to think we could have been so brought up by ourselves - (being immature, pretty, devoid of morals or knowing right from wrong?)

The first verse to me just seems like a school shooting situation. From the point of view of the shooter. I know it seems bizarre, but matt does fixate on these things. Maybe someone will see where I'm coming from, if they read the lyrics.

The third verse confuses me. About unemployment and military maybe?

In any case, it was my very favorite song off of Hospital Music when it first came out. Still perfect.
