|
| Hot Chip – Keep Fallin' Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i love this song so much! it's perfect. the 'tightest motherfuckers' verse is so cocky. love it. | |
| Belle & Sebastian – Shoot the Sexual Athlete Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i love the strings in the instrumental after the fourth verse! it's always lovely when belles does spoken word type songs. i don't know what my life would be like if it weren't for stuart murdoch. |

| Peter Bjorn and John – Young Folks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i know that the salinger connection has already been mentioned, but i thought i'd post a link to his story "the young folks" - it's very short and i would recommend it as i am a freak for salinger [http://www.freeweb.hu/tchl/salinger/folks.html]. i think there is something to the theory, although the outcome in the song is rather opposite of the story, there is definitely a strong similarity. worth thinking about! |

| Los Campesinos! – International Tweexcore Underground Lyrics | 17 years ago |

actually the male vocals have all the punk references, and the female vocalist makes all the twee ones. but i agree about their lyrics - always fantastic! |

| The Sea Urchins – You're So Much Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is my favorite sea urchins song it's so lovely. =) | |
| Los Campesinos! – 2007: The Year Punk Broke (My Heart) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i want to say that the 'waiting for c90' line is a reference to c86. but im really not sure. i really like this song though, the instrumentation is gorgeous. | |
| Los Campesinos! – You! Me! Dancing! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i dont know if anyone has gotten the hold on now, youngster lp, but the version of this song on that album has a different intro. i dont like it is much, it sounds more harsh. | |
| Los Campesinos! – Death to Los Campesinos! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
the video for this song is so epic! its the band recording in a studio, and they are all killed, [death to los campesinos!, you know...] but in fairly unlikely ways: one girl coughs up flowers, another gets impaled by a unicorns horn, gareth gets mauled by kittens [!], other members get killed by confetti, balloons, feathers, rainbows, streamers. its awesome! but anyway, as to the meaning of the song, all of these seemingly innocuous things come blasting out of the speakers and amps while theyre recording. so, its like technology offers all these things and opportunities that seem really benign and even desirable or actively good but they end up being malicious and homicidal and the death of everyone involved. ! such an amazing band. i cant even properly explain. |

| Los Campesinos! – International Tweexcore Underground Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
amelia flethcer was also in talulah gosh, before heavenly. although both bands have pretty much the same people. the idea not caring about the references they make is really tongue in cheek. which is like, painfully obvious when you look at their other stuff: they do a heavenly cover on the tweexcore ep and make other references to calvin and k records in other songs. but i really identify with this song, especially the part about listening to music and reading at the same time, and ending up just listening to the song with your knees pulled up to your chin. i cant even number the amount of times thats happened to me. i love lc!, i have every song theyve released and i cant think of a bad one. theyre fantastic all the time. |

| Los Campesinos! – You! Me! Dancing! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
ok, so definitive lyrics for the spoken bit at the end: "and I always get confused, because in supermarkets they turn the lights off when they want you to leave, but in discos they turn them on. and it's always sad to go, but it's never that sad, because there's only so many places you're guaranteed of getting a hug when you leave. and then on the way home, it always seems like a good idea to go paddling in the fountain, and that's because it IS a good idea. and were just like, how rousseau depicts man in the state of nature: we're undeveloped, we're ignorant, we're stupid, but we're happy." also, i love this song slash the whole ep. i could listen to just sticking fingers into sockets for a week straight [actually, i did that last week...]; i dont care if its only sixteen minutes, it is ridiculously amazing. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Dirty Dream Number Two Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| no, 'Intellectual and perspiring / Dirty dream number two' doesnt get said in the song. not the album version at least. those lines arent even in the liner notes. | |
| Os Mutantes – Baby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
heres the english translation: Baby (Written by Caetano Veloso, English version: Os Mutantes) You know, you must take a look at the new land The swimming pool and the teeth of your friend The dirt in my hand You know, you must take a look at me Baby, baby I know that's the way You know, you must try the new ice cream flavor Do me a favor, look at me closer Join us and go far And hear the new sound of my bossa nova Baby, baby It's been a long time You know, it's time now to learn Portuguese It's time now to learn what I know And what I don't know And what I don't know And what I don't know I know, with me everything is fine It's time now to make up your mind We live in the biggest city of South America Of South America Of South America Look here, read what I wrote on my shirt Baby, baby I love you You do i like the ending. the shirt that says 'baby, i love you' is really a cute idea. |

| The Beatles – Twist and Shout (The Top Notes cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
twist and shout was only covered by the beatles, duh. it was written by phil medley and bert russell, and was originally recorded by the topnotes and the isley brothers. i think most people know this, but theres a comment on the first page that implies 'twist and shout' is a beatles original, and i thought id make clear that its just a song that gets covered a lot. |

| The Unicorns – I Do (It) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song is about doing anything for money, whether it be giving musical, or even sexual performances, since it has the 'satisfy the bride/fellate the groom' part in there. [if you dont kkow what 'fellate' means, i suggest you look it up; it really puts that part into context, as well as being highly amusing.] also the 'ill do anything you say/so long as im getting paid' and 'no principles' parts really smack of prostitution. although i highly doubt theyre being serious, those parts sure make for interesting and amusing lyrics. |
|
| The Promise Ring – A Picture Postcard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| thats not true at all, they would have had to give him lyrical credit on the album, and they dont; they say: 'lyrical credit to b. nanna and m. kozelek on track 8[which is a picture postcard].' | |
| Architecture in Helsinki – Frenchy, I'm Faking Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i think the 'you let me down lightly i killed you politely' line is fantastic because, the way i see it, hes traslating what the other person is saying. they say 'i let you down lightly' and hes saying, 'yeah, you let me down lightly, but you still let me down.' the 'i killed you politely' line is the perfect follow up because 'to let someone down lightly' is such a common phrase no one really looks at what it means anymore. but 'i killed you politely' puts it into perspective; it doesnt really matter how you kill someone, because youre still killing them. aih is fantastic. |

| Jawbreaker – The Boat Dreams From The Hill Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
in the first part, blake is talking about this old boat that doesnt work any longer, attached to an old, run-down, house [hence the 'anchored to a fixer uppers dream' line]. a man, probably older ['thinking about his pension plan'] is continuously working on it, making futile attempts to make it seaworthy. this part could be a metaphor for [something else, haha] any big investment put into a hopeless cause. im kind of thrown on the 'i wanna be a boat' portion, maybe the thought of being able to sail away, find new shores and new beginnings. i think the part after that, though, is talking about the boats beginning, how there was lots of hope and oppourtunity for it to go out to sea, but then it got put away and now will never have the chance [sold at auction, on a dolly ever since]. this part could also be a metaphor. probably it is. |

|
| The Promise Ring – Things Just Getting Good Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
davey is talking about how hes spent a lot of time and effort working on this one thing (but if it came too easy, it wouldnt be worth all the time that it took), and now his time with it is over (i hear my swan song singing/all the refrences to 'winter then a new year'). hes sad that its over, but knows that it needs to be, so hes moving on. |
