International Tweexcore Underground Lyrics
I bet you twenty pounds if you knew ten years ago how pretty you'd turn out then you'd never have gotten your ears pierced, but I never got my ears pierced and look how I turned out,
and the last time that you tried listening to music, and reading fiction at the same time, you never finished the chapter, but you finished the song with your chin on your knees like you belong
and i never cared about Henry Rollins
Amelia Fletcher never meant anything to me
but the International Tweexcore Underground, will save us all
Getting the laptop fixed by a professional doesn't make me a pawn and
stamping harder on your FX pedal, won't make you feel any better any more
oh you said "we've gotta bite the hand that feeds" but I was sucking seductively on the fingertips of a civil servant,
said "how you gonna bring the state down when you're propping it up?
with daytime radio
and skimmed milk and soppy bows
just 'cause you're scared to be alone"
and I never cared about Ian MacKaye
Calvin Johnson never meant anything to me
but the International Tweexcore Underground, will save us all
Ooh, this city is run by fucking pigs, and though you say you're my friend, you're not, you're one of them.
and i never cared about...whatever
Sarah Records never meant anything to me
but the International Tweexcore Underground, will save us all

looks like alot of hardcore punk refrences as well as Twee Pop and Indy refrences Henry Rollins from Black Flag, Amelia Fletcher from Heavenly , Ian Mackay from Minor Threat, Calvin Johnson from Beat Happening
I guess this is just a song referencing there influences hence Twee(X)core , good nice song
amelia flethcer was also in talulah gosh, before heavenly. although both bands have pretty much the same people.
the idea not caring about the references they make is really tongue in cheek. which is like, painfully obvious when you look at their other stuff: they do a heavenly cover on the tweexcore ep and make other references to calvin and k records in other songs.
but i really identify with this song, especially the part about listening to music and reading at the same time, and ending up just listening to the song with your knees pulled up to your chin. i cant even number the amount of times thats happened to me.
i love lc!, i have every song theyve released and i cant think of a bad one. theyre fantastic all the time.
'and the last time that you tried listening to music, and reading fiction at the same time, you never finished the chapter, but you finished the song'
I think that happens to most people, haha, when I heard that line I was reading catch 22 and listening to their CD, by the time it finished listening to the whole thing I think I had read like maybe 8 pages.
This is song is about the battle between Twee and punk/hardcore (hence Tweexcore). The female vocals are punk/hardcore and male Twee. It's mostly shown when the female vocals mention punk icons, and Male Twee icons. But its also shown in the second verse, "Getting the laptop fixed by a professional doesn't make me a pawn" is a reference to the DIY culture of Punk. Then the line "Ooh, this city is run by fucking pigs, and though you say you're my friend, you're not, you're one of them." Is reference to the idea of the punk rock scene being weary of twee for being catchy and poppy.
LC! has some of the greatest lyrics of any band today. full of allusions, metaphors and tongue in cheek quips about indie culture.
actually the male vocals have all the punk references, and the female vocalist makes all the twee ones.

but i agree about their lyrics - always fantastic!

No the female are the punk and the male are the twee as the male lines go "I never cared about Henry Rollins" saying he doesn't care about black Flag. same with the female line, even though the male line makes a punk reference and the female the twee reference they are saying they dont care about the other.

the lyrics on this are so clever, you said we gotta bite the hand that feeds

Ooh, this city is run by fucking pigs, and though you say you're my friend, you're not, you're one of them.
Direct quote from "My War". Which is a rad Black Flag song written by Henry Rollins.
never put to much faith in music to change the world
