Joy Division – Colony Lyrics 19 years ago
I would have said it was about families being broken up fleeing European countries during the expansion of the Nazi empire in WWII. But whatever, great song.

Xiu Xiu – Fake Soul Lyrics 19 years ago
holy shit.

This is probably the bleakest, most blunt song Xiu Xiu has yet recorded.

ouch

Xiu Xiu – Hives Hives Lyrics 19 years ago
I like the IBOPA version tons more, if only because this one has some sloppy arrangement.

Xiu Xiu – The Body Breaks (Devendra Banhart cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
It's on a split 7". The A side is Xiu Xiu covering "The Body Breaks," and the B side is Devendra Banhart covering "Support Our Troops OH! (Black Angels)." I got it at a Xiu Xiu concert, and it's out of print, but you can easily find it for pretty cheap on eBay.

Xiu Xiu – Apistat Commander Lyrics 19 years ago
Nightmare Fox made me rofl right there.

This was the first song that made me love Xiu Xiu, and it remains one of my favorites to this day. Very raw.

Time makes things worse. If you don't fix things right away, you'll never fix them, and they'll eat at you forever.

Xiu Xiu Larsen – minne mouseistic Lyrics 19 years ago
...Lipstick fair?

...The only thing I can think of is a "rainbow party," and, uhh, those are pretty disgusting, demeaning, and condemnable.

So, seeing as Xiu Xiu had a hand in this, it's perfectly plausible.

Xiu Xiu – Dangerous You Shouldn't Be Here Lyrics 19 years ago
I thank Jamie Syewart and Xiu Xiu for contributing to my drive to commit suicide.

The Flaming Lips – Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Lyrics 19 years ago
"Hell, this song is trippy. Good vibe to it, makes the subject matter not seem so emo."

...Why the fuck is it that no one can listen to a song with emotional content anymore without slapping an "emo" label on the lyrics? Christ...

Violent Femmes – He Likes Me Lyrics 19 years ago
I swear to god, you wouldn't ever really realize it at first, but the Femmes have more callous, bitter songs than any other band out there...

Pixies – I Bleed Lyrics 19 years ago
"If we're gonna talk about songs Nirvana sotle from the Pixies, I think "In Bloom" sounds WAY too much like "I Bleed.""

It's not like that should suprise anyone. Cobain loved The Pixies. He said in an interview once that Smells Like Teen Spirit was basically him trying to write a Pixes song. (Notice, for example, the laid-back verse and then the exploding loud and emotional chorus, which was always a Pixes staple.) =)

Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 20 years ago
Umm... Maybe I'm missing something in that link, but it doesn't appear to be to anything of relevance.

Nirvana really bugs me. They're one of my favorite bands ever, but honest to god they really get on my nerves. And why? Because of the lyrics, and how none of us will EVER know what they're about. All the speculation in the world, ultimately, will amount to that: speculation. Kurt is dead, and regardless of how he got that way, we will never have confirmation. However, the way I see it, most Nirvana songs can be one of three things...

1. Very, very deep. Lots of symbolism and hidden meaning.
2. Obscenely specific, relating to an event in the world, or Kurt's life, or the life of the band.
3. Means absolutely nothing; it just sounds cool.

That being said, I think the comments on the Nirvana "threads" (ah, what to call them?) on this site would be better dedicated to telling the world how you relate the song to your life. What it means to YOU, not what it means.

Peace.

Oh, and my two cents, heh, well... To me, it's about a guy in a relationship with a lot of problems, but he blames everything that goes wrong on himself, regardless of whether or not it's really his fault. He's really hard on himself, and is searching for an escape. True, not all the lyrics really match this interpretation, but... Meh.

Oh, the box set solo acoustic and the Unplugged versions have been known to make me cry...
