It's great for working out and stuff. It's also the song at the moment that motivates me to not let setbacks get the better of me as I try to get back into good scoring form and ultimately get into the champions league (metaphorical). |

| Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb Lyrics

I like this song a lot. It's so mellow but uplifting at the same time. My personal take on it is that it's about how drugs can make the user numb to the everyday pain that is a part of life. So much so that when I hit up some sweet mary jane to unwind after a hard days work I call the temporary uplifting sensation "comfortably numb".
I've never tried H and don't intend to, but I'm sure it's effects fall into the same category. The best part about this song is that it's open enough to interpretation that the listener can attach a more personalised meaning to it.
So nazi punks like Bradnz can take a hike and try to take themselves less seriously while they're at it. I'm gonna smoke a bowl to toast the more open minded Pink Floyd fans! |

Seems pretty clear Miss Washington is singing about shagging, as well as the feelings involved. All in all this is a shagadelic, catchy little indie pop tune. |

A very catchy song indeed. The first 100 times I heard it I thought the meaning was quite clear cut, yknow at the end of the day family is the most important thing. Though it always kinda rankled with me that the family is so specific as in wife and daughters, but I found with time that it's strength is that the titular girls could be something more sexual like a harem or just the girls that one picks up on the weekend and takes home. But then I chanced upon another interpretation, and this one could be a little controversial, the girls he's referring to could actually be cannabis plants. The reason I say this is cuz I once knew a guy who grew pot (I would never do this because I'm perfectly happy with legal drugs like alcohol) and he often referred to his plants as his "babes" or his
"girls". I asked him why and he told me that guys who do what he did/does only want their beloved plants to be female because males fertilise the females and make the pot have seeds which is apparently a bad thing. So when I remembered that the other day my view of this song changed completely. |

| M83 – Kim & Jessie Lyrics

I liked this song virtually from the moment I heard it. It has such a great textured sound, it captures the essence of an 80s soundtrack without any cheesiness. When I read the lyrics I thought it had something to do with drugs, a song about 2 girls who go to the woods and escape into a fantasy world of their making. The 'somebody lurks in the shadows' part adds tension, it could be a voyeur who watches them or it could be the reality that they seek escape from. I thought there could have been a romance between the titular characters, which is fine by me I got nothing against lesbians. But also that would give the somebody in the shadows part more weight. |

| Sepultura – Desperate Cry Lyrics

Yeah like the oppression of when many Latin American countries around the time of the sixties and seventies were under the rule of brutal military dictatorships. A prime example would be Pinochet's reign of terror in Chile. But also in Brazil most recently 1964-1985 which ended about the time Sepultura had formed.

When I saw the lyrics to this song I was like 'holy crap, This song is dripping with sexuality!' And yet it manages to remain stylish and avoids gratuitousness. |

I like this song, it has style. The lyrics seem like they're about the unfortunate chicks who get more than they bargained for when a dude they picked up takes em back to their room only to find that there are a whole bunch of other dudes there ready to take advantage of her being really drunk. Like what happened with those rugby league player gangbang scandals, which has probably been going on longer than it's been talked about in the media.
PS it was the video for this song that got me thinking along these lines. |

| Future of the Left – Arming Eritrea Lyrics
| 16 years ago

"But if we arm Eritrea then we won't have to pay her" How very politically charged are these lyrics. But they are spot on tho, cuz Europe and America have been arming and dividing African countries for decades and even China is getting in on the act (Sudan). They do it because it's easier to strip away the mineral wealth from Africa when the worlds attention is diverted by an artificial civil war/s.
I reckon Rick is any of those corporate douchebags who do underhanded things on the sly to keep the shareholders happy and to make sure they get their golden handshake when their tenure is over.

this song is incredibly funny! The way it parodies the way some straight guys go to great lengths to affirm their preference for women is just hilarious. And then right at the end after stressing so dramatically that only a woman will do he says 'or a man' in that typically DVDA voice. |

I totally dig this track, and to me it seems to be about the drudgery of everyday life, and the desperate struggle to assert our individuality, even if the means by which that is achieved are somewhat sinister. |

When I first heard this song I thought - yeah this is about droppin E's. And everytime I listen to it I believe it even more. Cuz lines like "Makes you smile at strangers " or "It just comes crashing through your walls" describe the experience so accurately. I suppose I could reconcile the above two meanings by saying that being in love and Xtaticness both produce an overwhelmingLY positive state of mind that lifts one beyond the grim realities of life even to the point of irrationality ( but that's what is so good about experiencing them), or I could just say PURPLE MONKEY DISHWASHER!!!! |

Wow the amount of input everyone has contributed for this song exemplifies how much you can get out of something seemingly so simple - provided the concept is solid, universal and well executed. That said It sounds like a reflection of modern industrialised society where productivity and profit are more important than Joy and fulfilment. Definitely a PHAT track, I'll bet Mylo was inspired by this one when he was making Drop The Pressure. |

| Ben Folds – Zak And Sara Lyrics

I always thought they were bro and sis - but since reading here the idea that they were a couple does seem plausable too (maybe more so). Anyway I too thought it was about a mis understood girl who unknowingly envisions the Rave culture that is soon to become a worldwide phenomenon. Though I always thought the pale english face was some geezer, I mean DJ from England (well known for being a hugely important place in the history and evolution of the Rave scene). I never thought of Zak as being the DJ but it fits ( I assumed the titular pair were American like Ben Folds) Also I imagined the vision was of zak and sara goin to the rave and pilling away but that's what's great about this song there isn't just the one interpretation that fits. so thanks to all who have expanded the possibilities of its meaning - much love and rave on :) :) :) |

| Jefferson Starship – We Built This City Lyrics

Hey there, I'm a long time reader first time poster, so here's what I reckn. The way I see this song is it's about rock an' roll (and successive musical devlopments) combined with advances in technology that bring music to more people than ever before (radio) and how that inspired generations to push the limits in all sorts of ways whether it's a teenager challenging authority or building sky skrapers or going into space. Now I'm not implying that all the architects and engineers that were responsible for the last two examples listened to rock an' roll but what they all share is the spirit of endeavour and boldness that seems inextricably linked to the spirit and achievements of America, particularly post WWII America. Anyway that's the good thing about songs with elusive meanings, they give you more room to find your own meaning in it, just ask At The Drive In fans. |
