The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics 14 years ago
am i seriously the only person to think this couple never even wanted children? maybe that's the reason the dude wants to stick around and see both of them go down in flames, because there are no children to fuck up.

Grateful Dead – Sugaree Lyrics 14 years ago
i imagined this song would be about a man talking to a prostitute.

MGMT – Kids Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah, i've read a bunch of places that this is the case.

Modest Mouse – Baby Blue Sedan Lyrics 15 years ago
this song, to me, is ultimately about disappointment. the protagonist thinks he's doing the best he can, but he can't find love. the eunuchs have nice voices, but they can't get what they want, either. dancing like a wooden indian to me means not dancing at all.

"And I shot the story because I didn't hear it that way" could be someone ruining a movie because of their director's vision. lol

"harder as anything else" means everything is hard, imo.

being lonesome when someone is around, to me, means being disappointed that you aren't connecting with them like you want to or just being disappointed in their company. missing them while they're around is the same, imo. never being lonesome while you're by yourself probably means you have no expectations and can't be disappointed.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Woodstock Lyrics 17 years ago
i can't believe there aren't more comments for this song. it is one of the greatest songs ever. i have to admit, though, that i didn't know it was written by joni mitchell and i've only heard csny's version. that's enough for me to love it, though.

to me, this song is about woodstock, yes, and the entire hippie youth peace movement. but it's also about how we are all, as humans, one and part of the same god. how we fell from grace biblically, and how we have to redeem ourselves and get back. and how we are all one and the same, so we should stop fighting already.

By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong,
and everywhere there was song and celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes riding shotgun in the sky,
turning into butterflies above our nation.

Jeff Buckley – Yard Of Blonde Girls Lyrics 17 years ago
i'm not sure what this means, but to me it's about too many dyed blondes, and some are real. i'm not sure about the fear part. but i thought it said, "it's in your argent beauty" which would make sense, as argent means silver or white.

Harvey Danger – Diminishing Returns Lyrics 18 years ago
they lyrics seem a little wrong, and i thought they had them on the official site, but i guess not. perhaps they were with my download, but i deleted everything but a few songs, and this was one.

anyway, i think he says "the king of the swingin' moods" and "surround him as he/pounds a silver hammer" also "the boom's a bustout" like in the stockmarket. the rest looks right to me.

as for meaning, i actually look at this from a romantic relationship standpoint. perhaps because the first time i heard it, i was introduced to it by my ex, with whom i hoped to get back together.

i felt like he had all these grand ideas, about life and his own future, but i knew that we were good for eachother. or at least good enough, thus wanting to meet him at the point of diminishing returns. lol

i think these lyrics are genius.

Bob Dylan – I Shall Be Released Lyrics 18 years ago
I've only heard The Band's version, but I figured I'd comment here, as Dylan is the writer. I basically wanted to say I agree with Lukethedrifter on the perspective of the light, either due to looking out a window or being behind high walls. That part makes me so sad. I think prison is cruel and unusual punishment, but I guess necessary sometimes.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Redemption Song Lyrics 18 years ago
this song makes me sad, but it also has some hope, i guess.

bob i basically condemning religion, i think.

won't you help to sing these songs of freedom, cause all i ever had... redemption songs.

to me that's saying redemption is different than freedom... it's different to simply be free than to fight and redeem yourself. redemption involves bloodshed and forgiveness... totally unecessary, but a part of human nature for as long as humans have been alive.

The Beatles – Carry That Weight Lyrics 18 years ago
this song to me is about marriage. lol

submissions
Elvis Presley – A Little Less Conversation Lyrics 18 years ago
i had never heard this song until i heard the remix on a commercial for a casino or something, and i loved it instantly. it's the cool suaveness of elvis mixed with an edgy techno-ish beat. it's driven and poppy, yet it still has meaning.

it is full of sexual innuendo, but geez. if you didn't know the king was about gettin' it on, get out.

Ludacris – Area Codes Lyrics 18 years ago
luda, no love for 316 or 620? shame.

submissions
Simon and Garfunkel – Cecilia Lyrics 18 years ago
i also like that it's kind of a driven song... and the handclaps of course make it popular and also... sort of meaningful. sort of like jack and diane by mellencamp.

submissions
Simon and Garfunkel – Cecilia Lyrics 18 years ago
i never knew about st. cecilia, but it makes sense. i'm a little disappointed, because i always thought it was just a bittersweet song about someone who'd cheated and come back. but i do like that it has multiple levels and works on both.

submissions
Nine Inch Nails – Ruiner Lyrics 18 years ago
the line "perfect ring of scars" really made me think about the crown of thorns. i think this song is jesus talking to his father. kind of far out there, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 Lyrics 19 years ago
i know that this song is supposed to be about writing a song, but i always thought it was about thinking about a way to win back a lost love.

submissions
The Doors – Peace Frog Lyrics 19 years ago
this song cites many different events, but overall it means that blood and conflict are a part of life... both generally (blood will be born in the birth of a nation, revolution) and personally (blood is the rose of mysterious union, sex). and there's no way to get around it (blood on the rise, it's following me).

Cake – Italian Leather Sofa Lyrics 20 years ago
um, i believe the serrated edge is an electric knife, such as one used to carve a turkey or homebaked bread.

i think this song is about how people use eachother to get what they want, not caring about the moral implications... only about their own happiness.

Pink Floyd – See-Saw Lyrics 20 years ago
i don't know. this song makes me think lucy in the sky with diamonds.

and it may be cliche, but i see drug references in it.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 20 years ago
i do not think this song is patriotic at all. to me it is just lamenting the fact that none of us get to choose where we're born, or what our country will do to us.

submissions
Busta Rhymes – Gimme Some More Lyrics 20 years ago
haha, followed the most recent comment in here. i haven't thought about this song in a long time, but i've always liked it. it was quirky and different.

as to the latest comment, i see flipmode as a way of switching things up. and bumping your head tends to make you want to do that. lol

submissions
The Smashing Pumpkins – Today Lyrics 20 years ago
hahaha, i never knew this song's meaning was so dark, because it always made me happy to hear it. but i should have known, with the pumpkins. i love it even more now. lol

and thanks to ihatecu for this quote:

"and why i'm in the dress, god only knows."
- james iha

i fucking love james iha as well. lol

Creed – What If Lyrics 20 years ago
this song rules. i don't know what it's supposed to be about, because i wasn't into the news back then, but it would make sense if it was an attack on the lies of the media.

that's what this song says to me. someone being judged by others who have no right, and wanting to lash back, but realizing that it's wrong. so just asking them, "what if your words were to come back on you?"

submissions
311 – Prisoner Lyrics 20 years ago
that, or a prisoner of this world, always wanting to be high instead. lol

submissions
Katatonia – Evidence Lyrics 20 years ago
this is one of the best songs on the album. i really enjoy the album, but i think it falls apart about halfway through.

i think it's about people who've committed some kind of crime against the state during wartime, and one rolls over on the other to get out of trouble.

i also enjoy how katatonia is vague, yet emotionally intense.

Rollins Band – Obscene Lyrics 20 years ago

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 20 years ago
this is an excellent song. i have no idea what it's truly about, but i'm surprised no one tried to interpret it more literally. to me when interpreted that way, it's about an artist that has a model apprentice whom he loved but could not be with, so he destroyed all the art he made of her.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Lodi Lyrics 20 years ago
i've always loved this song. it also describes my town, although it's not called lodi.

Big Brother & The Holding Company – Piece of My Heart Lyrics 20 years ago
i agree with RnR. one of the best blues voices in rock n roll, ever.

311 – Down Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this will always bee my favorite 311 song. it was the first i'd ever heard from them, and it just rocked. i think it's a great example of what they can do, as well, but it's not their limit. it will just always have a special place in my heart.

submissions
311 – Prisoner Lyrics 20 years ago
this was my favorite song off transistor until running grew on me. i think it's about trying to connect with people on a spiritual level, deeper (or perhaps higher?) than the materialistic and physical world in which we live.

submissions
311 – Running Lyrics 20 years ago
this is probably my favorite song off transistor. i used to put the cd on in the morning while getting ready for school, and it made me feel better about the coming day, which i always dreaded.

submissions
Queens of the Stone Age – Mosquito Song Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song is about how we're just animals, and meat. i think it might have a nod toward cannibalism as well.

especially this part:So you scream, whine, and yell
Supple sounds of dinner bell
We all will feed the worms and trees So don't be shy

that could just be about people being scared of death or pissed at mosquitos, though.

submissions
Eric Clapton – Cocaine Lyrics 20 years ago
this is another of those perfect songs. it just has a heavy groove, a great vibe, and awesome lyrics.

submissions
Joe Satriani – Big Bad Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
i love this song as well. i've heard a few satch songs, and he's an incredible player, but not really my thing. this song, however, has a lead-heavy groove that can't be denied, shredding guitar work, and perfect lyrics.

submissions
Cannibal Corpse – I Cum Blood Lyrics 20 years ago
it seems most people hate these guys. i've only heard one song, and this is only the second set of lyrics by them i've seen, but i think they're genius. they do what they're supposed to do, conjure forth imagery, and shock you. the song i'd heard wasn't that great... was solid, but i couldn't really understand him. i know that's part of it, but meh. i really do like the lyrics, though. they're... evocative. lol

submissions
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Woodstock Lyrics 20 years ago
i'm surprised there aren't more comments for this song. it's really one of those perfect hippie/classic rock songs. i seriously didn't even know all the lyrics until i read this, like this part:

Well, then can I walk beside you? I have come to lose the smog.
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning.

it just makes me have goosebumps. it is perfect.

the song is pretty self-explanatory, but i think the garden he's talking about is eden, of course. all trying to get back to perfection and peace.

submissions
Weezer – Freak Me Out Lyrics 20 years ago
i just heard this song on yahoo's launchcast and i really liked it. to me it sounds like somebody just walking around in the city, bumping into someone on accident, and trying to reconcile their fear of human contact. lol simple, but poignant. it would be hilarious if it was about a spider, though. got 4 stars from me for that. lol

submissions
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – If 6 Was 9 Lyrics 20 years ago
i love this song. it's possibly my favorite jimi song, but that depends on my mood. i think it's just about being oneself, with no regard to what everyone else is doing.

Collective Soul – Shine Lyrics 20 years ago
the lyrics are accurate to the booklet. this has been my favorite song of all time since i was 12 (i was born in 1982, so it's been 11 years), and i think it always will be. and i don't know why, because i love classic rock and so many songs that are just plain better. but this one will always be special to me, it just represents a time in my life that i loved, and it will always make me happy.
