am i seriously the only person to think this couple never even wanted children? maybe that's the reason the dude wants to stick around and see both of them go down in flames, because there are no children to fuck up. |

| Modest Mouse – Baby Blue Sedan Lyrics

this song, to me, is ultimately about disappointment. the protagonist thinks he's doing the best he can, but he can't find love. the eunuchs have nice voices, but they can't get what they want, either. dancing like a wooden indian to me means not dancing at all.
"And I shot the story because I didn't hear it that way" could be someone ruining a movie because of their director's vision. lol
"harder as anything else" means everything is hard, imo.
being lonesome when someone is around, to me, means being disappointed that you aren't connecting with them like you want to or just being disappointed in their company. missing them while they're around is the same, imo. never being lonesome while you're by yourself probably means you have no expectations and can't be disappointed. |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Woodstock Lyrics

i can't believe there aren't more comments for this song. it is one of the greatest songs ever. i have to admit, though, that i didn't know it was written by joni mitchell and i've only heard csny's version. that's enough for me to love it, though.
to me, this song is about woodstock, yes, and the entire hippie youth peace movement. but it's also about how we are all, as humans, one and part of the same god. how we fell from grace biblically, and how we have to redeem ourselves and get back. and how we are all one and the same, so we should stop fighting already.
By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong,
and everywhere there was song and celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes riding shotgun in the sky,
turning into butterflies above our nation. |

| Jeff Buckley – Yard Of Blonde Girls Lyrics

|
|
i'm not sure what this means, but to me it's about too many dyed blondes, and some are real. i'm not sure about the fear part. but i thought it said, "it's in your argent beauty" which would make sense, as argent means silver or white. |

| Harvey Danger – Diminishing Returns Lyrics

they lyrics seem a little wrong, and i thought they had them on the official site, but i guess not. perhaps they were with my download, but i deleted everything but a few songs, and this was one.
anyway, i think he says "the king of the swingin' moods" and "surround him as he/pounds a silver hammer" also "the boom's a bustout" like in the stockmarket. the rest looks right to me.
as for meaning, i actually look at this from a romantic relationship standpoint. perhaps because the first time i heard it, i was introduced to it by my ex, with whom i hoped to get back together.
i felt like he had all these grand ideas, about life and his own future, but i knew that we were good for eachother. or at least good enough, thus wanting to meet him at the point of diminishing returns. lol
i think these lyrics are genius. |

| Bob Dylan – I Shall Be Released Lyrics

I've only heard The Band's version, but I figured I'd comment here, as Dylan is the writer. I basically wanted to say I agree with Lukethedrifter on the perspective of the light, either due to looking out a window or being behind high walls. That part makes me so sad. I think prison is cruel and unusual punishment, but I guess necessary sometimes. |

| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Redemption Song Lyrics

|
this song makes me sad, but it also has some hope, i guess.
bob i basically condemning religion, i think.
won't you help to sing these songs of freedom, cause all i ever had... redemption songs.
to me that's saying redemption is different than freedom... it's different to simply be free than to fight and redeem yourself. redemption involves bloodshed and forgiveness... totally unecessary, but a part of human nature for as long as humans have been alive. |

| Elvis Presley – A Little Less Conversation Lyrics

i had never heard this song until i heard the remix on a commercial for a casino or something, and i loved it instantly. it's the cool suaveness of elvis mixed with an edgy techno-ish beat. it's driven and poppy, yet it still has meaning.
it is full of sexual innuendo, but geez. if you didn't know the king was about gettin' it on, get out. |

i never knew about st. cecilia, but it makes sense. i'm a little disappointed, because i always thought it was just a bittersweet song about someone who'd cheated and come back. but i do like that it has multiple levels and works on both. |

this song cites many different events, but overall it means that blood and conflict are a part of life... both generally (blood will be born in the birth of a nation, revolution) and personally (blood is the rose of mysterious union, sex). and there's no way to get around it (blood on the rise, it's following me). |

um, i believe the serrated edge is an electric knife, such as one used to carve a turkey or homebaked bread.

this song rules. i don't know what it's supposed to be about, because i wasn't into the news back then, but it would make sense if it was an attack on the lies of the media.
that's what this song says to me. someone being judged by others who have no right, and wanting to lash back, but realizing that it's wrong. so just asking them, "what if your words were to come back on you?" |

| Katatonia – Evidence Lyrics

this is one of the best songs on the album. i really enjoy the album, but i think it falls apart about halfway through.
i think it's about people who've committed some kind of crime against the state during wartime, and one rolls over on the other to get out of trouble.
i also enjoy how katatonia is vague, yet emotionally intense. |

this is an excellent song. i have no idea what it's truly about, but i'm surprised no one tried to interpret it more literally. to me when interpreted that way, it's about an artist that has a model apprentice whom he loved but could not be with, so he destroyed all the art he made of her. |

| Queens of the Stone Age – Mosquito Song Lyrics

i think this song is about how we're just animals, and meat. i think it might have a nod toward cannibalism as well.
especially this part:So you scream, whine, and yell
Supple sounds of dinner bell
We all will feed the worms and trees So don't be shy
that could just be about people being scared of death or pissed at mosquitos, though. |

it seems most people hate these guys. i've only heard one song, and this is only the second set of lyrics by them i've seen, but i think they're genius. they do what they're supposed to do, conjure forth imagery, and shock you. the song i'd heard wasn't that great... was solid, but i couldn't really understand him. i know that's part of it, but meh. i really do like the lyrics, though. they're... evocative. lol |

i'm surprised there aren't more comments for this song. it's really one of those perfect hippie/classic rock songs. i seriously didn't even know all the lyrics until i read this, like this part:
Well, then can I walk beside you? I have come to lose the smog.
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning.
it just makes me have goosebumps. it is perfect.
the song is pretty self-explanatory, but i think the garden he's talking about is eden, of course. all trying to get back to perfection and peace. |

the lyrics are accurate to the booklet. this has been my favorite song of all time since i was 12 (i was born in 1982, so it's been 11 years), and i think it always will be. and i don't know why, because i love classic rock and so many songs that are just plain better. but this one will always be special to me, it just represents a time in my life that i loved, and it will always make me happy. |
