Evidence Lyrics

I hold my breath and check the time
One minute no collapse
If you only knew what I would do for you
One thirty breathing lapse
We're going in my voice is thin
When I tell you to remember
That no one will find you
My promise from the heart
If we part my pulse will guide you through

Be still for a moment
Everything depends upon you
If you die I will die too
Once we were heroes
But everything has changed since then
Now they recognize you too

I stay too long something's wrong
You walk out of the picture
I hold my breath and check the time
One thirty I collapse
We went in my voice was thin
When I told you to remember
That no one will find you
My promise from the heart
If we part my pulse will guide you through

Be still for a moment
Everything depends upon you
If you die I will die too
Once we were heroes
But everything has changed since then
Now they recognize you too

I'm the evidence
You passed the test and that's so good for you
O love will you read the letters I will send to you
Will I come along
Will they let me out to take the test
O love is the score enough for me to pass the test

I'm the evidence
You passed the test and that's so good for you
O love will you read the letters I will send to you
Will I come along
Will they let me out to take the test
O love is the score enough for me to pass the test

I'm the evidence
You passed the test and that's so good for you
O love will you read the letters I will send to you
Will I come along
Will they let me out to take the test
O love is the score enough for me to pass the test

OK here is what we think it means and I think we are pretty right on. lol.

It appears that this epic song in about two lovers, who have done wrong and they have been caught for whatever they did. Now they have to face a lie detector test, and he reminds her to remember what to say. Now it seems she passes this lie detector test, but he is nervous about getting caught. "Be still for a moment" talking about the heart beat from the lie detector. "Oh love will you read the letters I will send to you" ( if he doesnt pass and goes to jail)

I think he is telling the story as he is about to take the test. He is unsure he is going to pass. "Will they let me out to take the test O love is the score enough for me to pass the test"

now im not good at putting this together but if you listen to the song and read the lyrics while thinking of our theory you will understand.

Any objections?

When I listen to this song, I imagine a pair of good doers, like super heros, that messed up. Then they reunited to hide something they did. It's pretty intresting, and I bet that's not whats it about. That's what I imagine.

this is one of the best songs on the album. i really enjoy the album, but i think it falls apart about halfway through.

i think it's about people who've committed some kind of crime against the state during wartime, and one rolls over on the other to get out of trouble.

i also enjoy how katatonia is vague, yet emotionally intense.

you gyes has forgott to mention the stong love in the song. it gives a feeling of he wanting to protect her till the death. he really loves her

When I tell you to remember That no one will find you My promise from the heart

but in the end of the song he has lost her and it feels like he think its his fault.. very beautiful

to me this song is about taking the punishment for someone else because you made a promise. whether it's an actual punishment/crime or just methaphorically speaking i don't know. but it's beautiful. probably my favouite Katatonia song.

just to begin picking under the cryptic surface of this song... the 'hero' thing and the action movie feel of the lyrics could be simply a metaphor for some indiscribable feeling...he tries to find words this is all that comes, this is all the evidence... he feels tested... the collapsing bit could relate to him thinking he cant do anything?

Could it be about a person committing crime (bank robbery?) with an imaginary girlfriend?

> We're going in my voice is thin

> When I tell you to remember

> That no one will find you

Could even be that he knows she is imaginary, but being too far gone to understand the implications?

> Everything depends upon you > If you die I will die too

He would do none of the crime if the imaginary person wasn't there

> I stay too long something's wrong > You walk out of the picture

The imaginary person is no longer with him.

> I'm the evidence > You passed the test and that's so good for you

They caught him, but not her - so she passed the test (of courage?).

> O love will you read the letters I will send to you > Will I come along > Will they let me out to take the test > O love is the score enough for me to pass the test

He is now in prison and sends her letters, waiting for him to be released from prison (the score - the result of the crime) to try again.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Evidence lyrics by Katatonia

It reminds me of war, almost pre-apocalyptic or something...The "I am the evidence" bit reminds me of being implanted with something, and you are evidence of what we will become. I'm not sure that it's right, but either way, Katatonia give off a very intense emotional scene in this song, it's amazing...

to me the "test" sounds like a lie detector test, i'm probably completely off
