What the hell? People. It's Shawn Harris. Of The Matches. And n_i_c_k is right. What theyre saying isnt that these bands arent punk. Theyre saying this place is exploiting a culture to get rich.
Trust me, i hate the whole defining punk thing. I'm not even into typically punk bands. The Matches are about as punk as I get as far as bands as a whole go, and for God's sake, listen to them. Their "punk" is in their attitude, not their music. Which is how it should be.
Basically, i think this song makes alot of sense. Some of you seem to be interpreting it wrong, though. Like, they say music is up to a person's interpretation, but i think this one is just too straightforward. |

Y'know. I never looked at it this way. Ediger may be right on this one (though i doubt the same for Waterwings, which is clearly about divorce). To me, this is what it sounds like: He was late for history class and the teacher insisted he apologizes. This makes him angry. He sits down and writes an angry song about not caring about this shit that doesnt matter. Then he starts trailing off with the whole Alamo thing (wasnt there a war where the Mexicans beat the Americans involving the Alamo or something like that? I dont know anything about American history). He jsut starts having fun and moves onto the artsy part about the rainbow. If you've ever written lyrics, you should know that sometimes you make no connection, but it just sounds great, so you keep it. |

I think both bands did it well. I think Alexisonfire is more advanced than moneen in musical expertise, but Moneen is obviously willing to take things further and experiment with sound. Thats a talent thats much appreciated on this front. Two amazing bands, and one amazing cover. |

Alexisonfire likes to play with movie lines and imagery and stuff like that. I think this is just meant to give the feeling of a high-speed chase (for some reason, i get the image of it out on a deserted road) after a murder. There's most likely a second meaning, too, dealing with the love thing. Maybe the murder was a crime commited by a couple. Bonnie and Clyde? Thelm and Louise? Iunno. Still a great song. The insturmentals even give the feeling of the sirens in the background. |

geoffl, your opinion is a very valid one, but you should put an "I think" in front of that. Just cause you say the song's about that, doesnt mean it is.
Personally, I think this song is about feeling destructive and like youre just hurting everything and everyone and you cant do anything about it. Like youre an out-of-control asshole, but you dont want to be, and you feel so much remorse. |
