CocoRosie – By Your Side Lyrics 17 years ago
assigning yourself these unconditional goals - always scrubbing the floor, never being a bore - is a dire life. you're putting a funnel on the spectrum of things you can do, for the price of a diamond ring. try it yourself. restrict even a days activities to just cleaning a house. even if it is for love, that's more time cleaning, and less time with the person you love, doing things you both want to do! i think the song reveals true devotions true colours. as i have said before, i _think_ that "it's nearly midnight" is significant - relating to the infamous 'biological clock'; an anxiety many women experience when worried that they will grow too old to have children, and will settle for anyone.

sweet/humble, but only from the perspective of the speaker. that this is all she can offer is an ultimate sacrifice, and there can be a sad beauty in that. "it's nearly midnight" is an interesting one - could link to the 'biological clock' that women can have, which is really just fear of finding someone to give them a child. don't let this be your life!

agree with midnyteblu, young_team. two roads - two paths in life. one of disillusionment, idealism. the other of truth and reality.

pretty much agree with sammy.

pictures represent a facade, and the people at the ball mere acquaintances, but because he knows them as a true friend, he sees past all this and reasons that he deserves a free ride.

liplex and maninthewomb - wtf. the numerology bit seems to be the only thing that is true, and is a load of usless crap anyway. I'd say the song is about how time conspires two people to fall haphazardly together, and this same inexhorable time pulls them apart. There are references to the song being "gay" - billy dolls... "his trick is you and me... boys"

I'm gonna completely buy into what The Agressor has said about the meaning. Awesome.

One note is that "definition of a crazy person is someone you does the same thing over and over again while expecting new results" is a quote from Albert Einstien.

After "Well maybe, maybe..." Regina makes monkey noises :D

A character that seems to look on the courtship of the girls and boys like David Attenborough - all knowing of their quirks and follys in love "They really just wanna watch eachother sleep", wants to be involved "I am one of your people", and not be this David Attenborough. They have lowered their inhibitions in order to fit in and wonder the streets "Like a drunk but not" - they want the 'cars' to stop and notice them. CHEESE

Björk – All Is Full of Love Lyrics 18 years ago
There are three people in this situation Bjork describes. Bjork is the main person, faced with the second person, who's "phone is off the hook". The third is a part of Bjork, a guardian. She reassures Bjork that everything is ok. All is full of love.

As far as the video goes, there is no homosexuality, merely the loving of the self, in the absence of reciprocation. We see in these machines a modern love - contorted into the crevices of strange devices - love can still take hold and thrive.

Notice how the voice of the song never addresses itself. "I" is never mentioned. "You" however proliferates throughout, selfless in its deliverance. "The sources" have been poured, and they have given up the search. In this way I believe this voice no longer wishes to love, but leaves the person addressed with the hope of love to come, from directions not immediately obvious.

Do Make Say Think – A with Living Lyrics 18 years ago
Now that I think about it the 1st and 3rd "???" is probably "A".

The song title is "A With Living", so... maybe "A" is pronounced as in bar or car.

"A With Living" - the title in itself seems to mean at one with existence, and this links in with the elemental references of the song: "beneath the stars", "light and dark", "The planets". Just a general appreciation of Being.

Stream of conscience. And I agree with sexual interpretation - it seems that they have an emotional connection, but he is confused as to why everything is a mess when he tries to express himself physically. It's kind of beautiful how he is rendered useless by emotions because it shows that this woman means so much to him - to the point of obsession. She however does not seem to struggle - "Can you guide me in// Can you smother me?" and he is relying on her to help him manifest his feelings physically.

There is a big vibe of anxiety running through the lyrics and I think this arises from the efforts he is going to to make this work. Look at the repetition of "I tried every trick in the book", and this 'mole' advising him that he's a fool - he has all these voices in his head like supportive muses.

The Family Tree (Strings 4) version of this knocks down. I always imaging her singing underwater, her piercing voice pulsing like waves from a deep blue abyss. Like clarkthe2nd said, it is the ultimate escape, like finding warmth in ice.

Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics 19 years ago
(: An awesome tune. This song is full of symmetry. Like many have commented it loops back on itself, it returns to the sonar 'pings' of the beginning at the end! I like to link the lyrics very strongly with the instrumentation - to me the way the two ends of the song (start and finish) are the two strangers, and they are separated by the horrors in the middle section of the song; the voice of the start is calling out for the echo of the finish and I feel relief when that echo returns. In the same way the lyrics respond to themselves - "And do I take you by the hand" a mere question on its own, is answered by the fulfilling action - "And so I throw the windows wide..." Perhaps I'm reading into it too much - I love the song as it is, I want to understand it the best I can :)

I agree with the view of Gama, and to epand this, there is Plato's Myth of the Cave (http://www.molloy.edu/academic/philosophy/sophia/plato/plato_happiness.htm)

The narrator (who's eyes are shooting sparks) is using a blindered horse to travel, so that only he can see what's really going on. Parts of the song are in french, possibly another factor used to illustrate that things are being hidden.

Notice that the lines "Ne dis pas a ton pere
qu'il porte des oeillieres", and "Hey, your old man should know, if you see a shadow, there's something there." conflict. In french, the narrator is telling this girl that she shouldn't tell her father about whats going on... but the other line in English says she should tell him...

Angela40 makes a convincing argument that this song is about drugs, and seeing that it was written so soon after his recovery, I think she is right, but don't think every song is about drugs, it gets really annoying seeing the same perspective on these analysations.

Thanks to Vu Ki Na To R 32 for sorting out the blatant (?) thing.

Amazing music video, I didn't know any of the people in his crew, any arguments or anything, and still felt drawn into the situation. Snare drum/chorus/main lyrics are amazing, takes some listening to, but you'll get it in the end.

^^We have some crazy people here....
Anyway, this is an AMAZING SONG

From the very first comment I think we all have the general idea of this song.

My favorite part is the "Siiiiiiiidewaaaaays Faaaaalin' More will be revealed ma friend" bit.

There are a lot of people connecting songs with drugs... Don't forget! Drugs mess with your mind almost directly, and combine that with music, heck, every song seems to be about drugs....
