First time Tipton's done piano since Sadw Wings? Probably. I think he did the keyboard parts on Sin after Sin (Intro to Call for the Priest), but no piano since. Randomly enough, the synthy parts on A Touch of Evil are from Don Airey (Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath etc) |

| Metallica – Blitzkrieg (Blitzkrieg cover) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Few things to clear up.
1. This song was originally performed by Blitzkrieg, not Diamond Head. You can download an mp3 from their website (www.blitzed-alive.com), and if you think this is by Diamond Head, you are clearly an idiot, as on hearing the original it's bloody obvious. When Blitzkrieg play it live these days, Brian Ross replaces the lyric 'Aliens calling' to 'Metallica's calling', as the royality payments have helped him keep the band going. And they are bloody good.
2. The song is about an alien invasion, not the Nazis, it was as far as I know deemed a suitable word. Or at least this is an explanation that allows them to play in Germany more often, after problems with this in the mid 1990s.
3. The definitive version? The one on Blitzkrieg's 1985 album, A Time of Changes. |

I think it's about an actor who had a load of STD's, and eventually died from them, having had so much unprotected sex... he was quite young and this was in, like, the first half of the 20th century... pardon my ignorance on detail! |

Exp- you must be pretty retarded yourself, or unable to read the notes on album sleeves.
Metallica covered "Helpless", "It's Electric", "Am I Evil?" and "The Prince" by Diamond Head. Blitzkrieg recorded this song and released it as the b-side on their 1981 single "Buried Alive". Either you have misread something or are just stupid; whichever it is, I am right and you're not. |

I like this song a lot; listening to it right now, actually! Kinda self-explanatory title, with customary druggy second meaning ("Riding the white lines"). Excellent solo-age as well, courtesy of Messrs Blackmore & Rosenthal... |

| Rainbow – L.A. Connection Lyrics

In the late 70's, Rainbow split their time between being based in England and LA, so I reckon this song is about dividing your time and getting frustrated with the hard rock lifestyle. |

Low turnout, yeah; but remember that a lot of people listen to "Cool" music these days. I have to suffer it at work thanks to commercial radio.
As well as the references to old songs, this is quite a blast from the past- reminds me of "Epitaph" quite a bit. |

| Judas Priest – Deal With The Devil Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
|
I think this about the band's rise in popularity, the rise of heavy metal in the 70s and 80s, and how people thought they had made a deal with satan or something, as there are many people stupid enough to think that if your lyrics are dark, you are evil or something. Rob Halford has been quoted [joking], to have said "Yeah, we made a deal with the devil. That was a kinda Spinal Tap moment". |

| Black Sabbath – Megalomania Lyrics

This song was written after the band went on a huge cocaine binge and got the fear, though of course the lyrics were made suitably dark to tie in with the Sabbath way of doing things. An underrated classic. |

| Black Sabbath – N.I.B. Lyrics

|
|
The bass intro is crazy, I agree- but Sabbath always put a lot of emphasis on bass, at least whilst Geezer was in the band (1969-85, 1991-93, 1997-). The track listing on the first album states that before N.I.B. comes "Bassically", as on at least the initial release, several songs are glued together; so important it has it's own title! |

| Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
Amazing song, in all respects. Stairway To Heaven is far more of a masterpiece, though this deserves far more credit than it is given (Critics saw Led Zeppelin as losing their grip with the last two albums, though I can't really comment on this as I only own I, IV and a selection of other songs).
Looking for inspiration for their next album, Prescence, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page decided to visit the Atlas mountains in Morocco ("The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth"). The lyrics are full of references to the fact the trip resulted in a broken foot, the actual area visited and a lot of stoning (Such as "Oh the sweet refrain, soothes the soul and calms the pain"), as the area is notorious for "Moroccan Red", the export/use of which lands a lot of european tourists in jail. |

| Deep Purple – Burn Lyrics

|
Excellent song- The whole band excels, with Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale alternating on vocals, the expected strong soloing from Jon Lord and Richie Blackmore, and a verse which is backed by Ian Paice giving the drums a good rolling. The lyrics are almost to an Ian Gillan level of silliness, proving that Mk3 Deep Purple didn't lose too much of Mk2's trademarks! |

You're right. The album "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" was all based around the concept of a prophet trying to warn a village of an oncoming apocalypse, and his varying treatment. This was quite a hit back in 1988; all four songs from the album which were released as singles hit the UK Top 10. Excellent video as well if you've ever seen it! :D |

Yet another piece of AC/DC's humour; Bon Scott's attempts at an upper class accent are hilarious, and shouts of "Ball Sucker!" towards the end really reinforce the point! |

AC/DC's first ever single, with some excellent riffing. This isn't actually set in a bar, it's set in a cinema, to correct the anti-punk guy who first commented. |

Excellent song to rock out to, and some excellent soling as well! Possibly about the apocalypse, judgement day or Jesus' return, but with a very dark twist. The song structure is very similar to (If not copied from) the opening track of Stained Class, "Exciter". |

| Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers Lyrics

|
The song that marked Deep Purple's first album in eight years, and the "Classic" lineup's first in 11. Surprisingly relaxed and sensible for Deep Purple, it's about coming back to those you knew in the past, who became strangers but are now well known to you again- very much like what happened to the band coming together again (Jon Lord and Ian Paice having left a then-disbanded Whitesnake, Roger Glover and Richie Blackmore ending Rainbow and Ian Gillan being fired from Black Sabbath and reforming as a result of these events ) Some of Deep Purple's best lyrics, and Ian Gillan excels in their delivery. |

I think the idea of the song is saying thst it's better to be alone than left heartbroken. As far as comeback singles go, this is a bloody good one- commercial, 80s-style rock with a lot of progressive elements. |

To me, this sounds like a humourous, drug-influenced take on what the next millenium would be like (Seeing as this is from 1979). I'm not really a big fan of Kiss, but this is an incredibly catchy song; well worth listening to! |

| Def Leppard – Hello America Lyrics

One of Def Leppard's early aims was to become big in America, and this is a song about that attitude, one shared by most other British bands at the time. It worked- their debut album went into the Billboard top 50, as well as the British Top 20. |

A very dark song, one which often sends shivers down my spine. Not only are the lyrics well written, but they perfectly match the song, which boasts some excellent guitar playing and very creepy, atmospheric keyboards. A great show of creativity by a band which most people had given up on at the time, and a great showcase for then-vocalist Tony Martin. |

The Zombie is incorrect, I agree. All the songs by Spinal Tap are taking the mickey out of British metal bands in one way or another, and as well as criticising rock 'n' roll lifestyles, it also rips off "Lightning To The Nations" by Diamond Head. |

The blitzkrieg was the German tactic of WW2, where the country was overrun as fast as possible (Hence the name meaning "Lightning War"). Haven't heard Metallica's version, only the original by Blitzkrieg- still, an excellent song whoever's playing! |
