Black Night Lyrics
Black night is not right
I don't feel so bright
I don't care to sit tight
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
I don't need a dark tree
I don't want a rough sea
I can't feel, I can't see
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
Black night, black night
I don't need black night
I can't see dark night
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
I don't feel so bright
I don't care to sit tight
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
I don't want a rough sea
I can't feel, I can't see
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home
I don't need black night
I can't see dark night
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
That I'm free, free to be me
Black night is a long way from home

Allegedly written in a drunken stupor...the music has tinges of both "We Ain't) Got Nothin' Yet" by the Blue Magoos (as RR mentioned) & Ricky Nelson's "Summertime". Created only because the record company insisted on one more song that could be released as a single, as the record company deemed that not much else from "In Rock" was really very marketable as a single - from their standpoint. Musically it holds together quite well, lyrically it's pretty inane & banal...not reflective at all of Gillan & Glover's better efforts.
Well, here is an announcement that Gillan made 2001 in Melbourne (Soundboard Series CD) for Black Night:
"We were talking the other day in the bath.. I mean in the bar. And we remembered this old song. And we were totally... he said to me 'Do you know what that means?' I said 'No. It's a bit of soap.' So... wait a minute. I don't know what it means at all. Anyway. We still don't know what it means, but it's called Black Night."
guess that says it all^^
one of the coolest Deep Purple songs ever, and a good metal song too.
што да кажам,уше не сум ја преслушал оваа песна!!!
Not much meaning here, but it got to number 3 in the UK singles chart back in 1970. Unbelievably catchy, and a lot packed into a short song!
The main riff in this song sounds a lot like "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" by Blues Magoos
AWESOME song.. I love it!
This is a great song... one of my all time favourites. It reached the top of the Uk charts. This iwas the first song the markII lineup of the band ever written and look what we have.. a masterpiece. I especially like the live versions of this one where the crown goes humming the riff melody in the beginning.
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Deep Purple Rules !!!!!!!!!!
The words are pretty incidental really but sounds like it is about feeling down and pressured by demands of work or a relationship
Brill musically!
It has a nice rolling drum intro as well as killer guitar riffs.
