| Mat Kearney – Breathe in, breathe out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I've hated every one of Mat Kearney's songs up to this point. It's a beautiful song. I think it's meaning is generally about how the singer is inspired and lifted up by another person and they are mutually there for each other. The other person's going through a hard time and he's just saying that it'll be okay and kind of talking about how that person makes him feel better and calms him down as well. They're just eachother's support systems (doesn't even have to be a romantic relationship) and he's just being there for another person. It's such a pretty song! |

| Carrie Underwood – I Know You Won't Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
What an amazing song. I think the meaning is pretty obvious. This relationship is failing ("this candle burning out"). He keeps making empty promises and treating her badly, but at the same time... he says things that make her feel good and hold on to the relationship ("cause when you want to you can make feel like we belong"). Maybe she feels like a "back-up plan" because he's out with other girls, but still stringing her along because he knows that she loves him. And he does this so that he'll feel secure in having someone (her) if things with the other girls don't work out. If only this song where around with my ex-boyfriend - it's verbatim how I felt and explains the situation so perfectly. But how good it feels having someone make promises and keep them. |

| Blessid Union of Souls – Lucky To Be Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love this song! To me, it's the kind of song you sing after you've gotten through a rough patch in your life - "it's been a long, hard road, but I wouldn't change a thing." You finally realize the reason for all of your struggling because it molds you into the person you are. You're finally happy and you've followed your dream and you just get this amazing feeling and realize how lucky you are to be here. It's also pretty spiritual (obviously) - "how to pray," "breathe your love into this union of souls" (that could be love from another person, but I think referencing it to God works in this song). |

| Resident Hero – Happy (Without Me) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This came off the band's myspace (myspace.com/residentheromusic) & I just thought it should be here. "i call this song the career ender. it's that fucking song that everyone always wants to hear. i mean, i do appreciate that, but if it came out first we'd be deep blue something. i wrote this one as a prediction to the end of a relationship. the thing that kills me is that people sing it so passionately and sweetly, but it's such a selfish song." |
|
| Enrique Iglesias – Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I have to agree with 3ebLover about it being pretty self-explanatory. He's really in love with someone & he's giving her his all - "I’m standing on the edge and I don’t know what else to give," but she's just not having any of it. Maybe the relationship's over and she's trying really hard to move on with her life, but he's still trying to get the relationship back. But depsite all his efforts, it's just not going to happen and he didn't see it coming - "Love, you never know the minute it ends suddenly." I think it's a really catchy song. |

| Splender – Space Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I could be totally off, but I'm just going to say what it means to me. I'm not saying that this is Splender's original meaning. I think that when he says, "and I'd love if I never returned to the ground," it's like saying "I don't want to go back to reality. I'm happy being in my own little world where I feel 'so high.'" I think it's just about escaping the world - "well it won't be the first or the last time the world passes by." You don't care that the world and reality is passing you by, you don't want to be part of it because it just hurts too much. It could be about a relationship, but to me it's more about life in general. Life is "holding you down" and keeping you from being happy. For me, this is one of the ultimate "I feel like crap" songs, as is pretty much all of the Halfway Down the Sky CD. |
|
| Greenwheel – I Don't Believe Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is without a doubt one of my favoite songs. Like zzdanthemanzz said, it's a guy who is madly in love with a girl who doesn't care about him. It's like he knows she doesn't feel the same, but he'll do whatever it takes to be with her and stay with her because maybe she could love him the same way someday - "my heart's telling me never let go of this." The hurt of her not liking him the same is better than the hurt of not being with her at all. That's how I interpret it, at least. | |
| The Goo Goo Dolls – Become Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
To me, I think he's talking about this girl that came from a rough past. He's in love with her, but she feels like she's not good enough for him/for the world. So he's saying "You don't have to hide who you are anymore, I love you. Your past is over and you've become beautiful." The last lines kind of sum it up by saying, "...With no fear where you're from You have become beautiful" So my guess is that she's turned into a beautiful person despite all the crap she's had to put up with in her life and after all the people tried to tear her down. |
|
| Matt Nathanson – Hold Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is pretty self-explanatory. He judges someone else for being less than perfect and says that he himself is perfect and that the other person should do things his way. But then he realizes that he's just jealous of the other person and that he's not as perfect as he thinks. | |
| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I don't agree with what they said about Bush. I'm a full supporter of Bush and I also like the Dixie Chicks. I don't agree with a lot of what happened to them because of their statements. Freedom of speech, yeah. But you also have to take in consideration that the people talking about how they don't like what they said - is them taking advantage of their freedom of speech too. Dixie Chicks don't like Bush cause of what he's done/said. People don't like DC cause of what they've done/said. Same thing. Get over it. Now, for the song: I think that not only does it work politically, but it can be personal too. Maybe you said something mean to someone and everyone tells you how wrong what you said was, but you still fully believe in it. I also think the "forgive" at the beginning not only stands for them wanting to forgive other people, but for people to forgive them, as in to get over it. I like the song, but I agree with someone else that this song coming out so late after the incident is just bringing everything back, though they still have the right to release it cause it is their music. They know that what they say/do will be watched and scrutinized. I just hope they're reading for the consequences - good and bad. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that you can say what you want and everyone won't give a crap. People are gonna care and lash back. Deal. |

| Shane & Shane – I Miss You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I never even thought about phasen's interpretation. Awesome as well. This song is amazing, one of those you just sing at the top of your lungs. I got to see them in concert and them playing this song just gave me chills. To me, it's about falling away from God, in gerenal. The "it breaks my heart just to know You in part" talks about how, in my case, I've been going to church all my life. I've been a Christian for years, but lately, I haven't really been following Him. It's hurting me to know only part of Him because I know I can known Him better if I just spent time with him. I miss God because I haven't made the effort to have a relationship anymore. |
|
| Bonnie Mckee – Honey Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this is an awesome song that talks about being in love. Before you meet this person, you feel "alone" and "broken" because the last guy had really hurt you. You have these memories that are "haunting" you about who has hurt you before. But then you're drawn to someone else who loves you and helps you heal. You get "stuck" to them like they're honey. You're afraid at first: "but don't lie, don't you lie," but soon find that they won't hurt you. And isn't it true that when you love someone, you see them every time you close your eyes? And whenever you've been together and then part, you'll still smell him? | |
| Bonnie Mckee – Sensitive Subject Matter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I definitely agree with basket case. This was my therapy when my boyfriend cheated on me. He used to be the one that made me stay sane (kept my feet on the ground), but when he cheated on me, I was devastated. I promised to be there for him when he went to Iraq and I felt like I still had to keep that promise, even though he had broken all of his. The last part, "Cause I'm weary, I'm so weary, I told you I'd be there..." really describes how I felt. I was just exhausted from being so hurt and still trying to be there for him (stupid for me to do that, I know). I was broken because I really trusted him and he let me down. Bonnie McKee has some amazing lyrics and many of her songs have helped me through rough times. |
|
| Chicago – If She Would Have Been Faithful... Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Obviously, this song is saying that if his ex-love hadn't cheated on him, he wouldn't have found his new long. "I had to lose to win" -- it was probably really hard to lose the other woman, but now he's glad cause if he hadn't ever lost, he wouldn't have won with the woman he's with now, who apparently is MUCH better than the last girl. | |
| 3 Doors Down – Landing in London Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I realize that he's probably talking about being on the road away from the one he loves, but I think this is the perfect long distance relationship song. Even though it says "I just can't wait to get back home" -- that could be interpreted (to me) as "home" being when you're with the one you love. My favorite lines are And when the night falls around me And I don’t think I’ll make it through Ill use your light to guide the way All I think about is you And all these days I spend away Ill make up for this I swear I need your love to hold me up When it’s all to much to bear It makes me think of my boyfriend (long distance relationship) and how sometimes, it's really hard to be apart. You just don't think you'll last the night when it's been so long since you've seen them. But just knowing how strong your love is and that it can "hold you up" makes it better. And the "and all these days I spend away, I'll make up for this I swear" just means, to me, that (obviously) every moment we spend away from each other, we'll make up for when we're together. We won't have lost time because we treasure every second we're together. |
|
| Backstreet Boys – Safest Place To Hide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is absolutely beautiful. Obviously, they're married. And he's just saying that after all these years of being married that he loves her just as much as he did on their wedding day. And also, obviously, that she's his comfort and his everything. | |
| D.H.T. – Listen To Your Heart Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
To me, this song is advice to another girl. "I don't know where you're going and I don't know why." Maybe the girl she's speaking to is working towards something (a goal or dream) and she's thinking about letting go of the guy because she's scared the guy will be a distraction from her dreams... "Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile. The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea. They're swept away and nothing is what is seems, the feeling of belonging to your dreams." The singer may have let go of a guy to pursue her dreams, but she regrets it because she didn't listen to her heart. Now, she's trying to stop someone else from making the same stupid mistake. "And there are voices that want to be heard. So much to mention but you can't find the words. The scent of magic, the beauty that's been when love was wilder than the wind." She's saying that there are voices in your heart that want to be heard when they tell you "don't let him go." That's just kind of what I think. |

| Barlow Girl – Surrender Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is one of those that every Christian wishes they could sing and mean it. It's so hard to give our dreams to God. We're so set on making it on our own and fulfilling our own dreams because we believe that they define us. We know that giving our dreams to God would make life so much better for us, but it's just really hard cause we're so scared to entrust our dreams to someone else, even God. | |
| Barlow Girl – Average Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song is awesome. It reminds us that God really is working something out for us. We don't need to worry ourselves with trying to please other guys. And the "Sleep is the only thing for me" and "I'm waiting for a wedding ring" is just saying that just because it seems like everyone else is having sex outside of marriage (which would be the "average girl", doesn't mean that we should. We "don't meet the standards of this world" because our hearts are for God, not for the world. Pretty self explanatory song, really, but I love it. | |
| Des'ree – Love Is Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Basically, she hears this "tune" that is drawing her to a certain person. She is unsure of what this all means at first, but then she finds out that it means that the certain person is her love. When the "clouds disperse," she discovers who has sought her out with the "tune" and she is standing there, looking at the man she is in love with. Or something like that, but I think you get my point. It's a beautiful song. |

| Mad At Gravity – Stay Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song was my theme song for awhile. My relationship with my boyfriend of the time was crumbling and I was trying so hard to work it out. I'd try to pull closer, but because I wasn't met with any effort back, "the timing cuts me wide open." This part I played over and over again: "I miss you in my fingers And valleys in between It's odd how feeling lingers For something yet unseen There's ages between My heart and my mouth My veins throb with that Which I can't spit out Now I don't need much Just presence in mind And the assurance Your ache matches mine So stay… Please don't pull away from me…" We had a long distance relationship so I really missed him and I missed having him "in my fingers." My feelings were lingering for this love that couldn't be seen anymore. There were "ages between my heart and my mouth" because I couldn't express how I felt. I was totally unable to put it into words. And the part where it says "I don't need much, just presence in mine and the assurance your ache matches mine" is just talking about how hard it is to know that you're the only one sad about this falling relationship. You just want the other person to feel some sort of pain so that you're not alone. It was also like I knew we shouldn't be together anymore. In the song it says "Stay in my arms. Wait, you're breaking me apart." Even though you want so badly for the other person to stay in your arms, you know they shouldn't because the relationship isn't right and should be over. Probably one of my favorite songs ever. I love it. |
|
| Alanis Morissette – That I Would Be Good Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To me, this song is her looking for security. You want to know for sure that you would be good enough for the person you're in a relationship with even if you "gained ten pounds, were clingy, lost your youth," etc. | |
| Lostprophets – We Still Kill The Old Way Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'm not really sure how to explain this. But I think this song is talking about apathy. Like, we see all this wrong in the world, but it doesn't affect us and "we'll never change." "We'll make it on our own Breathing our own air Cuz no one else will care" Everyone just fends for themselves and they don't try to make it better or help anyone else. They're still killing "the old way," because nothing has changed. "I'm gonna die before I fold Don't try to sink me " He (or people in general) are never going to "fold," or care. Don't try to make them care because it just won't happen. Then at the beginning when it says, "No survivors left to save Too late for the walking dead" Everyone's already been killed (their spirit anyway) and there's no going back and there's no use trying to change things. The "concrete sails" could mean they're going down the same path and the wind can't change the direction that (the world) is going... we're all just going to die. Or something like that. Maybe I'm just over analyzing. |

| Greenwheel – Breathe Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Actually, darlington, if you're saying that Greenwheel did the cover and didn't write it, you were misled. Melissa Etheridge covered THEIR song. If you go to the Greenwheel site and the FAQ, you'll find this question: "Question: Who originally sang the song Breathe? asked by Jasmine on Sunday, May 9, 2004 Answer: Our band wrote and recorded it for our 2002 Soma Holiday release, and Melissa Etheridge covered it on her new album, Lucky. She’s keepin it real, for shizzle! answered by Andrew on Tuesday, June 15 , 2004 10:23 PM" Etheridge's CD "Lucky" came out in 2004 while Soma Holiday came out 2002. Check your sources next time. |

| Sugarcult – Memory Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I don't think this song's about a break-up. I think it's about a relationship that he wants to happen. He doesn't really care if it fails sometime, he just wants to be with her. "I'd be your anything." He'll be her "memory" after it's maybe over, he'll be her love, he'll be anything to her that he can be. As long as they can get together. | |
| Greenwheel – Identity Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| What it means to me is that who I think I want to be isn't who I am. But for some reason, I don't care that I'm trying to be someone I'm not. But what I'm trying to be is disgracing who I am. And it's like I just stopped caring that it wasn't. That's the basics of it anyway. | |
| Phantom Planet – Anthem Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| To me, an anthem is what brings a country together so, like mandar said, I think it's about bringing the world together. And he says he hopes that everyone will sing along. He wants everyone to be included, not just some countries, some groups, etc. | |
