Formed in 2013 after the band's drummer, Ben Thatcher, picked up longtime friend and the band's lead singer/bassist, Mike Kerr, from the airport, they played their first gig only two days after Mike's return from Australia. Royal Blood wrote their first song "Figure it Out" together the very same day they became a band. The summer of that same year, Arctic Monkeys' drummer, Matt Helders, wore a shirt showing his support for the band during their set at Glastonbury.
Several months later the band released their first single "Out of the Black" which made it to #1 on the UK Rock charts. In December of 2013 they were nominated for the BBC Sound of 2014, though losing out to Sam Smith. Their self-titled debut album was released on August 25th, 2014 to general acclaim from critics and reached #1 on UK and Irish Albums charts.
Since their formation, but 2 years ago, they've performed a slew of festivals -- South by Southwest, Liverpool Sound City, Radio 1's Big Weekend, Download Festival, Glastonbury, T in the Park and Reading Festival -- and have toured with the same band that helped make them famous, Arctic Monkeys, as well as the legendary Pixies.
