three heavy stones will keep them from floating
weigh it down to the bottom
food for the fishes
and i know that it won't be discovered
cuz i will be careful, so very careful

what if it doesn't rain for days,
and the river is reduced to it's muddy bed?
with the corpse exposed, i would work in haste
and i might bury the bones in a shallow grave
and the rain comes and moves the rocks and the stones
washes away all the dirt and the mud flows
bones are exposed and well, you know how that goes
i wait for the day when i'll finally defile
the bodies of my ex lover's lovers
i'll pile, high to the sky, the bodies of my ex lover's lovers
die die die die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die
die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die

i saw you with him, you look so happy
all of that can change, cuz i am so lonely
and i have lots of time to send you straight to the devil
i'm taking my time to plan your demise

what if i were to cut you up?
and mail each part to a different town
it would take the most brilliant private eye
the rest of his life just to put you together
a piece in each mailbox all over the planet
from moscow to tokyo to guadalajara
i wait for the day when i'll finally defile the bodies of my
ex lover's lovers
i'll pile, high to the sky, the bodies of my ex lover's lovers
i wait for the day when i'll finally destroy the bodes of my
ex lover's lovers
i'll pile, high to the sky, the bodies of my ex lover's lovers
die die die die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die
die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die

i saw you with him, you look so happy
that will never change
because i know myself too well
i don't have the courage to carry out my dreams
and only there will i see them
die die die die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die
die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them
die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die
die die die die die die die die die die die
i'd watch them die

    My Interpretation

It's obvious that this song is about wanting to murder one's ex-lover's lover. What people seem to be missing is that it's also about the fact that it is just a fantasy that he doesn't really plan to carry out. In true Voltaire fashion,he wraps it all together with the last verses:

"that will never change because i know myself too well i don't have the courage to carry out my dreams"

He wants to kill the new guy, but he knows he doesn't have it in him to follow through with it. He's basically accepted (if reluctantly) that life goes on.

On the surface, the words paint the picture of missing your ex-lover and the feeling of hatred directed towards their own new lover. But deeper, beneath all that, the song is about accepting that stuff happens and deciding to move on. It's okay to still be upset about it, but you have to put it behind you eventually.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
