Last time, I thought we had this talk
Boy, you were getting ready to leave
I thought that baby you were done
'Cause for a while, you could barely look at me

This time, I thought that we'd be fine
That I'd forget the thing that you said
I tried crossing out your words
But baby, you can not forget the past
Can not forget the past
Still, baby

I'm so unpredictable, you don't know what to think
So unemotional, wonder if I'm still in love
You see, I don't know what to tell you now
It's always harder the second time around
I'm so unbreakable, just like you used to be
So unemotional, boy I can't forget the way you were with me
I don't know what to tell you know
It's always harder the second time around

The second time around

We tried going back to Joe's
That was always our favorite place
Long rides, baby by the coast
Do you remember where we stayed?

Last time, we were hanging out
You were acting kind of strange
Now it's the second time around
I'm starting to see, it's me that feels this way
(My heart just speaks to me)
It's me that feels this way
I know that you are the one that is brave

I'm so unpredictable, you don't know what to think
So unemotional, wonder if I'm still in love
You see, I don't know what to tell you now
It's always harder the second time around
I'm so unbreakable, just like you used to be
So unemotional, boy I can't forget the way you were with me
I don't know what to tell you know
It's always harder the second time around

I'm not sure the best way to say this
But I can't pretend to love you no more, babe
This Ferris wheels got me crazy
Maybe the second time around is not meant for us, baby
Not meant for us, baby

I'm so unpredictable, you don't know what to think
So unemotional, wonder if I'm still in love
You see, I don't know what to tell you now
It's always harder the second time around
I'm so unbreakable, just like you used to be
So unemotional, boy I can't forget the way you were with me
I don't know what to tell you know
It's always harder the second time around

    My Opinion

This is so brilliant. I love the piano, I love her voice... gah I just love her.

But as for the meaning, I agree with JuicyBondie. I'm even facing this situation now - my boyfriend (or whatever he is...) hasn't spoken to me in 2 weeks and I feel as if we've broken up, since that's basically the message he gave me (long story). And even if he needs "space/time", and comes crawling back to me, I don't think it's going to be easy the "second time around".

"wonder if I'm still in love" - that is so true. Sometimes your emotions take over and you can't even figure out if the most powerful one - love - is there or not.

"This time, I thought that we'd be fine That I'd forget the thing that you said I tried crossing out your words But baby, you can not forget the past Can not forget the past"

That is so true, for so many situations - but especially ones dealing with relationships/heartbreaks/second chances. I'm all about second, third, tenth chances - but when it comes to being hurt so hard, so much, you just can't forget about it and let it slide. It's not easy.

You just don't know what to tell him. Except that it's harder. So on point.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
