My girlfriend's got a boyfriend, funny
He doesn't make a dime all day
And all her girlfriends' boyfriends make money
What more can I say?
It's true
He never made it through a day of school
The only thing he studied was you
He knows your body better than you do

Maybe I'm your Mr. Right
Baby, maybe I'm the one you like
Maybe I'm a shot in the dark
And you're the morning light
Whoa
Maybe this is sad but true
Baby, maybe you've got nothing to lose
You could be the best of me
When I'm the worst for you

My girlfriend's got a boyfriend, running
To catch the bus to meet
To meet up with the boyfriend's girlfriend
Who's stunning
She's such a sight to see
It's true
The moment he laid eyes on you he knew
The only wish he wanted came true
He knows he's lucky that he met someone like you

Maybe I'm your Mr. Right
Baby, maybe I'm the one you like
Maybe I'm a shot in the dark
And you're the morning light
Whoa
Maybe this is sad but true
Baby, maybe you've got nothing to lose
You could be the best for me
When I'm the worst for you

You can always change your mind
And you can't change mine
I know you can't change mine

Maybe I'm your Mr. Right
Baby, maybe I'm the wrong you like
Maybe I'm a shot in the dark
And you're the morning light
Whoa
Maybe this is sad but true
Baby, maybe you've got nothing to lose
You could be the best for me
When I'm the worst for you

first of all i think it's "CAN always change your mind, and you can't change mine"

i think some of the other posts have the right idea. But i from listening to the lyrics and watching the video i think the point is more that he might not be good enough for her but at least he makes her happy.

if you look at the video there are two couples. there's the couple with the curly haired girl who seems to have the wealthier boyfriend. he buys her nice clothes and buys her nice meals and nice gifts. He's got a car and he drives her around but she doesn't appreciate any of it and pays more attention to her phone than she does to him.

then you see the other couple with the girl with the dark hair with the blue streaks in it. she has a poor boyfriend. it shows them shopping at a thrift store, eating burgers on a curb, she needs to drive him around because he can't afford a car and when it's her birthday he gives her a cupcake because he can't afford to buy her anything but she is happy with him and doesn't need him to spoil her at all.

when it shows the two couples at the end the girls hug and afterwards the curly haired girl glares at her as she walks away because she's jealous of how happy the other girl is. during the whole video it makes the point to show how disappointed the curly haired girl's boyfriend is that she doesn't appreciate any of the stuff he does for her like the whole time he's thinking "what a bitch" and that she's probably just staying with him for the status of dating a guy with money even though she doesn't like him.

i know that the meaning of songs and the meaning of videos don't always match up but it is something to consider.

just paying attention to the lyrics i'd say that he's saying that he is crazy about his girlfriend. he only has eyes for her but he doesn't really know what she sees in him when there are plenty of other guys who might be better suited for her that she could be with.

i think the chorus and meaning of the song is more about how the rest of society sees their relationship than what he really thinks about it. that's why it says "maybe i'm a shot in the dark" because he's not society's ideal picture of a good boyfriend so she's taking a chance at being with him rather than going for the wealthier guy who can take care of her. she's the "morning light" because it's easy to see why he'd want to be with her. but he's saying that despite that maybe he is the right guy for her and maybe he can make her happy and that she should give him a chance because she can always change her mind but he knows that he'll always want to be with her.

it's about how some people will see a beautiful girl who seems to have the whole package and could probably get any guy she wanted but she's with some "loser" who is poor and not very good looking and they think she deserves better than that guy and wonder what she sees in him. this song is coming from the point of view of the guy she's with who nkows that that's what people are thinking when they see them together.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
