In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
It'll leave you with nothin' to say
Lost without a way
Ain't it funny, child, love sometimes leaves you
As dead as yesterday?
Hoping to hold a handful of sunshine
Like a child told it cannot play
Never ever be Lord, love would leave me feeling
As dead as yesterday
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter? Yeah
It'll leave you feeling hollow and helpless
And there is where you'll stay
Ain't it funny, child, love sometimes leaves you
As dead as yesterday? As dead as yesterday
As dead as yesterday
Lost without a way
Ain't it funny, child, love sometimes leaves you
As dead as yesterday?
Hoping to hold a handful of sunshine
Like a child told it cannot play
Never ever be Lord, love would leave me feeling
As dead as yesterday
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter?
Oh Lord, could You help me find some shelter? Yeah
It'll leave you feeling hollow and helpless
And there is where you'll stay
Ain't it funny, child, love sometimes leaves you
As dead as yesterday? As dead as yesterday
As dead as yesterday

woah.. no comments yet?
Well, BLS's great, this song is great!
Pretty much straightforward.. It's about someone who just suffered a heartbreak/breakup or maybe even unrequited love.
"Lord could you help me find some shelter?"
Just my opinion on this line.
It's not exactly from "God" that he's asking help from, but it just signifies that he's trying to find strength in something/someone/anything. Almost saying like "someone, anyone, please help me."
