Watching the ships roll in
Hoping that I will still be his friend
In the morning
Watching those ships roll by
Wishing that I could move this earth
If I could
For you I would do

I've got nothing to say
I've got nothing to lay at your feet
I just keep hoping
Hope that you will be the man
That I couldn't be

Still watching the oceans move
If only I could show you my soul
And places I've been

Watching the ocean come
And little girls playing in the sand as I walk
Longing to listen to you talk

But I've got nothing to say
And I've got nothing to lay at your feet
I just keep hoping
Hope that you will be the man
That I couldn't be

I've got nothing to say
And I've got nothing to lay at your feet
I just keep hoping
Hope that you will be the man
That I couldn't be

Pretty amazing for a b-side. I remember when I spent 2 weeks at my grandpa's I almost spent everyday sitting on french creek beach where there is a harbour beside it and I listened to this song and it fit the environment perfectly. It inspired a couple of my drawings

although i understand how it could be about max (and it probably is)i also like the whole notion of the song for once not being about a relationship. it can be a friend song in a broad sense not just about max. also the song has this feel, as if the singer feels as if he has done him wrong in some way, it sounds like a bit of an apology (maybe a sorry for not being able to hold him up? ) i really dislike the way the last line is sung though...sounds off. other than that gorgeous song.

I think this song is from a man who is dying, talking to his baby son!

"Hoping that i will still be his friend in the morning" he's hoping he has more time to spend with his son before he passes.

"I just keep hoping, hoping, you will be the man, That I couldnt be" he's hoping his son will grow old, and do all the things he wants to do in life, unlike his father who didn't have time!

" longing to listen to you talk" he wants to watch his son grow up, and hear him speak his first words, knowing that he cant!

i think this song is really sad, but i think it's amazing too :)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
