It's highway robbery,
And I have my receipts.
The skeletons I meet say they lay on their backs just to pave our way,
Right back to the starting gate.
They run circles around,
The King without a crown.
The speechless make a sound,
And start spreading their love with a boxing glove,
What would you expect from us?

Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
Let's let you carry the weight of a drifter,
We doubt you've attempted.
Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
And push your luck if it makes you a promise,
That turns con men honest.

The lap of luxury,
Is not a mercy seat.
The skeletons I meet say they lay on their backs just to lead the way,
Right into the everglades.
They thank their lucky stars,
And lose them in the cards.
Cowards are in charge and their painting their trust with a coat of rust,
What did you expect from us?

Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
Let's let you carry the weight of a drifter,
We doubt you've attempted.
Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
And push your luck if it makes you a promise,
That turns con men honest.

And these days, you're raking it in but forget,
That regret, is counting the cards in your hand.
And these days, they probably have to ask themselves,
What did you expect from us?

Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
Let's let you carry the weight of a drifter,
We doubt you've attempted.
Believe it! Believe it! Believe it!
And push your luck if it makes you a promise,
That turns con men honest.

Imo, this song is Darroh saying that they're just a band. Hear me out...

"Highway robbery" is touring, they're on the road taking in money at different stops off the "skeletons" who "thank their lucky stars" to come see the sarcastic "King", Darroh, and the "speecless" the band. "Spreading their love with a boxing glove" I think means that they play their music, but it's not as refined as lyrics are, its blunt and has no real meaning but still packs a punch. The fans or "skeletons" leading them right back to the "starting gate", Dallas where they first started playing shows, and where they start and finish almost all of their tours.

So now they've gotten bigger and signed onto a major label, and their music has changed a little bit, and things could have gone differently, but they don't regret anything they've done, yet, after all they're just a band, what would expect them to do but play tours and record albums and sign deals?

The conman is symbolistic of the band, and this song is them coming clean, turning honest, telling those that they're taking the money from that they're just a band.

Most of the song makes sense to me in this context, but there a few points that don't add up; obviously, it's a ftm song. But I chalk the chorus (which is the most significant, 'cause it's a big part of the song and it doesn't fit) up to the fact that it orginally came from Granny Niblo Says Otherwise, so it might not have the same meaning as the rest of the song, if it has any meaning at all, and it's in there because they based a new song (this one) around the unused chorus from an old one, while the rest of the old one became Granny Niblo; this is Says Otherwise, in a sense.

Just my thoughts. Good song though.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
