Yesterday, I spotted you
Hanging out with someone new
Come on, dude, I can't believe who

Did it hurt? Oh yes, it hurt
But not as much as I thought it would
Guess it's time for me to move on

I'm getting closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)
Every day's closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)

I finally took your pictures down
And all that other stuff I found
Hidden somewhere in my closet

I used to wear your shirt to bed
But now it's in the trash instead
I don't want to be reminded, no, no

I'm getting closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)
Every day's closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)

I saw you today taking my breath away
But then you opened your mouth without thinking
And then I recalled why I ended it all
And it makes me feel good about leaving, leaving

Mmm
Everyday, everyday, everyday
Everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday
I'm getting closer

I'm getting closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)
Every day's closer (closer, close)
Closer to closure (closer to closure)

    My Interpretation

I think the song is about one person (Aly or AJ) ending the relationship but they're still not completely over them but then they see the person they broke up with "hanging out with someone new" and that shows them that they're ready to move on and then HOW they move on and they're getting closer to closure.

Obviously it's about a relationship that has ended (by Aly/AJ) and she's still trying to close everything off but she's getting closer and she's almost ready to admit that things are in fact actually OVER between them.

Yeah I reversed the song at the end and they are just saying 'closer, closer to closure' There is no ass wipe and no cussing.

i cant believe they said asswipe at the end of this song but in potential breakup song they said "stupid birthday" instead of "fucking birthday" which would have made at least 1000x more sense.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
