"All Because of You (Alternate Version)" as written by Paul Allen Crosby, Christopher Jon Dabaldo, David A. Novotny, Joseph Scott Sappington and Wayne A. Swinny....
I was born a child of grace
Nothing else about the place
Everything was ugly but your beautiful face
It left me no illusion

I saw you in the curve of the moon
In the shadow cast across my room
You heard me in my tune
When I just heard confusion

All because of you
All because of you
All because of you
I am, I am

I like the sound of my own voice
I didn't give anyone else a choice
An intellectual tortoise
Racing with your bullet train

Some people get squashed crossing the tracks
Some people got high-rises on their backs
I'm not broke but you can see the cracks
You can make me perfect again

All because of you
All because of you
All because of you
I am, I am

I'm alive, I'm being born
I just arrived, I'm at the door
Of the place I started out from
And I want back inside

All because of you
All because of you
All because of you
I am

General CommentI love this version almost as much as the one that finally ended up on HTDAAB. Esp I like the verses. As for the meaning, I guess it's approximately the same as the one on the album.

General CommentI really like the song, except for the chorus... It's like the song is stuck or something. But I like th rest more than the original one.

General CommentI agree with Richard. Take the verses of this song and splice in the choruses of the final version, and it would be killer.

I do like how they decided to leave the last verse of this early version in the final version, though. It kicks it up a notch for the last part of the song.

General CommentI got the "U2 Rare and Unmastered" disc from U2.com and it found it's permanent home in my CD player in my car since I opened it. So many amazing songs on there, including this one. I love the lyrics so, so much and wish they'd just recycle them into another tune, so the masses could enjoy them too. I do, however, appreciate the opportunity to gain insight into their song making process, as you can see how the ideas from this version grew into the ideas of the released version on HTDAB. So, really I see why this was not recycled but released for us as a glimpse into how art takes on a life of its own and surpasses even its beautiful inception.

    I love Bono's humility:

"Had the universe decoded/Then the atoms split"

    The straight truth:

"It's not the noise/It's the deafening silence that drowns God out"

And of course the tune is soul-churning, just like the other one!
