Lyric discussion by U2momma

I got the "U2 Rare and Unmastered" disc from U2.com and it found it's permanent home in my CD player in my car since I opened it. So many amazing songs on there, including this one. I love the lyrics so, so much and wish they'd just recycle them into another tune, so the masses could enjoy them too. I do, however, appreciate the opportunity to gain insight into their song making process, as you can see how the ideas from this version grew into the ideas of the released version on HTDAB. So, really I see why this was not recycled but released for us as a glimpse into how art takes on a life of its own and surpasses even its beautiful inception.

I love Bono's humility:

"Had the universe decoded/Then the atoms split"

The straight truth:

"It's not the noise/It's the deafening silence that drowns God out"

And of course the tune is soul-churning, just like the other one!
