In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
What does the big hand say?
We can go we can go back now
Ready to run again
Come on home
Come and see us
I was the one that went away
As soon as i get some pain
Shut me in, lock me inside now
Before I run again
Follow on, follow me back
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
look at the life i saved
All i hate holds me upside down
Until we get some rain
We all know the way to your hometown
I was the one that went away
Too tough, fought too hard
Come back never too much
I'm here again to pick up the pieces
How to find, find your smile
Make it work, make it mine
I walked away, I walked away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
We can go we can go back now
Ready to run again
Come on home
Come and see us
I was the one that went away
As soon as i get some pain
Shut me in, lock me inside now
Before I run again
Follow on, follow me back
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
look at the life i saved
All i hate holds me upside down
Until we get some rain
We all know the way to your hometown
I was the one that went away
Too tough, fought too hard
Come back never too much
I'm here again to pick up the pieces
How to find, find your smile
Make it work, make it mine
I walked away, I walked away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
Are you well? I'm alive, Just miles away
